I’ve obviously no imagination but are people still furloughed? If so, what type of jobs do they do? Traffic is still light near me so I think lots are wfh if they can but just trying to work out of people are still off and furloughed

I know a person who works in an estate agents and they and their colleagues are still furloughed, which I’m a bit baffled about!

I work in the cultural sector so loads I know of. Lots of museums, theatres and galleries are not open. And have staff who do learning and outreach roles so they are not working. With theatres most of their staff are still on furlough. Also I'd imagine in aviation there's a lot. As well as other things like hospitality where places are running at reduced capacity.
Also a bit of a crossover with my work but roles which support events like lighting, sound, stage management even security.

Plussizejumpsuit · 04/09/2020 15:02

@Papyrus hi fellow museum person!

Absolutely20 · 04/09/2020 15:13

The people I know who are still furloughed both work in the pub trade, office based though.

Shaniac · 04/09/2020 15:19

Me. I work in a shop and all the other staff are back but me. Looks like a redundancy brewing.

MaxNormal · 04/09/2020 15:19

DH works in events and there's still almost nothing happening there as you can imagine.
It's making me very angry that Johnson/Sunak are refusing to extend furlough claiming it's time to go back to work, when certain sectors realistically cannot.

otterbaby · 04/09/2020 15:21

I am. Events sales manager at a museum/gallery.

Doje · 04/09/2020 15:22

I'm in retail (office based). I have been back a month, but plenty still on furlough within my company and the industry in general. We lost millions in lockdown, and so I think the company are running as tight as possible to save as much as they can.

I also know people in events management that are still furloughed.

starfish4 · 04/09/2020 15:37

Retail, we don't need everyone back yet so those previously shielding have been kept on furlough.

Pearsapiece · 04/09/2020 15:56

Insurance related industry. No cars on the road = no car insurance claims

Sports stadia, theatres, nightclubs, events, hotels, hospitality, etc.

People who are clinically extremely vulnerable and don't have a covid-safe workplace.

Factories etc when their supply chain has broken down meaning lack of raw materials.

Suppliers to the theatres, nightclubs, sports stadia, hotels, hospitality and events industries.

Factories, shops and offices that don't physically allow for social distancing between staff, etc.

I'm more angry that Sunak buggered up the covid support in the first place leaving 3 million self employed without any support. At the time he said "we'll leave no-one behind" then he changed his tune to "we can't help everyone". Everyone seems to think he's done a wonderful job - well try saying that to the self employed who've lost their businesses, lost their homes, lost their savings, etc.
MayFayre · 04/09/2020 16:08

Lots of library staff
University support staff, particularly those with ‘interacting with people’ roles rather than office staff

LaurieFairyCake · 04/09/2020 16:46

Almost the entire Arts industry Sad

MaxNormal · 04/09/2020 17:07

@user1497207191 I could not agree more with you. We've seen utter carnage, most of DH peers are a mixture of sole trader/ltd and have largely been utterly shafted.

CazM2012 · 04/09/2020 17:09

A friend is still furloughed as the majority of her work is going into care homes to test residents eyesight and obviously, very few are allowing family to visit never mind these services.

Tobydogrocks · 04/09/2020 17:12

I work in theatre and am currently furloughed.
Myself and all of my colleagues are fully expecting redundancy.

kerkyra · 04/09/2020 17:16

Friend works in an electrical wholesalers and been off since march.
Son works at a joinery company and still half the staff are off.

minnieok · 04/09/2020 17:22

Anything in the arts, very sad for my friends. It looks like they are likely to have to sell their house

frustrationcentral · 04/09/2020 17:26

I'm still furloughed from Youth work

palacegirl77 · 04/09/2020 17:27

We own a dental laboratory - several staff currently furloughed as until NHS dentists start seeing patients properly we only have private work coming in and not enough work for them to do.

GrasswillbeGreener · 04/09/2020 17:43

I feel really bad at the moment - my sister and I are both musicians but she is a fabulous performer, I'm merely solidly competent (and haven't done the professional level training she did). Currently I teach - and my teaching has more or less held up. She's in an orchestra, furloughed on less than half their usual pay and now getting drips and drabs of work only. They've no idea what's likely to happen and are being messed about by their management into the bargain.

ohffs66 · 04/09/2020 17:57

In our office, reception, canteen and facilities staff as hardly anyone is in the office and we are not hosting client meetings atm

acocadochocolate · 04/09/2020 18:01

A lot of swimming pool and leisure centre staff.

NameChange657 · 04/09/2020 18:10

Best friend is a makeup artist, although she can work again, nobody is going for nights out big events etc so she has no demand whatsoever, she just opened her own studio last year and it's all gone wrong.
Uncle, electrical wholesale, he's back as he's branch manager but none of his staff are yet, leading to him being very stressed as he's keeping it ticking over.
Friend, cineworld. They're open but demand is so low they don't need all their staff in yet.
Neighbour specialises in parties, so does the whole balloon thing, dj, flower walls etc. for weddings/birthdays/events. He's had a few orders for balloons for a home party but virtually nothing on a normal scale.
His wife, dental hygienist still not back (have I even spelt that right?!)
