I’ve obviously no imagination but are people still furloughed? If so, what type of jobs do they do? Traffic is still light near me so I think lots are wfh if they can but just trying to work out of people are still off and furloughed

@Lindy2
You can tell your brother that we are turning our ( rented) self service coffee machine on on Monday. Hand sanitiser available to use before pressing the buttons.
Our risk assessment is that it is much the safest way to provide hot drinks for visitors.

I'm a surveyor. I am still working. I have friends who are furloughed (property management, agency work, valuations, planning). There is still work for them, but the directors are concerned about fall in income, and trying to do as much as possible themselves, and keep as many furloughed as possible.

Lindy2 · 04/09/2020 22:02

Scarby9 That's good to know. Thank you. Hopefully more will soon follow and some more workplace coffee machines get back in use too.

Unfortunately until distancing is reduced workplaces will suffer

At some point I expect they’ll drop rule to save jobs and homes etc

People at risk may get support I don’t know but I’d hope the gov would offer something for the low risk to go to work whilst helping the high risk

I’m on maternity leave but would still be furloughed if I wasn’t. I work for a charity that is based on women being able to meet up in groups which obviously isn’t happening still.

Frazzled2207 · 04/09/2020 23:28

Not furloughed but self-Employed and have almost no work due to government guidelines making it almost impossible for me to do so.

Babyroobs · 04/09/2020 23:52

@DamitJanet

I am, charity sector. Some are beginning to head back to work but I suspect redundancies are round the corner.
My role is funded by a large charity that are set to lose half their fundraised income. I have a job until next december but not really expecting my contract to be renewed. It's a very difficult time for charities, a smaller one I used to work for has made redundancies already and quite a lot of voluntary redundancies.

I don't understand how people are saying they are part furloughed ? Is that allowed?

Iammariedtojacksparrow · 05/09/2020 00:01

I have friends who work in retail that are still furloughed.

Alot are starting to panic as the company have started to announce job losses

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/09/2020 00:09

@Babyroobs yes, the government said businesses can bring back employees part time and then topped up the rest with furlough.

blueshoes · 05/09/2020 00:11

Office-based professional services. Half the secretaries are on rotational furlough at any one time. A lot of it is to save money at government expense but it is inconvenient to their bosses to get a 'new' secretary every week. The secretaries are delighted to go on a paid holiday every 3 weeks for 3 weeks at 100% top up and there will be a riot if the 'joy' wasn't spread around. Company wins, secretaries win, bosses suffer.

Yes.

It was changed to help businesses start up again.

People working at soft play

Cakestandkitchen · 05/09/2020 08:42

Yes being part time in work and part time furloughed is permitted. I’ve been working like that since mid July.

MadameBlobby · 05/09/2020 08:49

My husband is on flexible furlough as his work is open but only a few days a week.

I was on furlough till a fortnight ago as I was under redundancy notice but I got a new job.
