Where is Boris?!

Why is Boris no longer doing the daily press conference? I get that he doesn’t need to do it every day but it would be nice if he showed his face once a week!

Maybe he is more ill than we thought?

That could be part of the issue, but admitting that those who've recovered are not bouncing around like bunnies but instead might be longer-term, incapacitated doesn't suit the current 'it's a mild illness for most, so get on your bike and back to work' narrative, so presumably won't be discussed.

Petronius16 · 19/05/2020 19:27

Where's shake-my-hand Johnson? After the disaster last Sunday evening and various other gaffes (lies) he's keeping out the way, so at some point in the future he can claim it was his leadership that did it!

missyB1 · 19/05/2020 19:28

He's probably busy doing some dirty deal with Trump ensuring we all have to eat chlorinated chicken for ever more. Oh and selling bits of the NHS off I expect too.

Zilla1 · 19/05/2020 19:30

I can't believe I'm posting this but to be fair, recovery from ITU takes time. Might be slightly moderated given he appears not to have been ventilated with associated sedation, depending on how much can be believed from the press and government statements.

lilgreen · 19/05/2020 19:30

Maybe he’s had a bad reaction to one of Trump’s malaria tablets!

KindlyFOD · 19/05/2020 19:31

I think Boris has been much iller than we realised, and he has not properly recovered yet. It is obvious that he is not 100%, and also that it has changed him. I don't expect he will ever be the old Boris again.

DoctorHildegardLanstrom · 19/05/2020 19:32

depends on whether the rumours going around now are (mainly on twitter) actually true and the more he doesn't show himself the more they keep popping up

lilgreen · 19/05/2020 19:33

Rumours?

Fallsballs · 19/05/2020 19:34

Johnson makes a tit of himself every time he opens his mouth so the Tory’s must be limiting his public utterances.

lilgreen · 19/05/2020 19:34

Why doesn’t he cut his hair???

Wildernesstips · 19/05/2020 19:35

I don’t like the man but when I came out of ICU I was told it would take 6-12 months at least to get back to anything like normal.

MintyChapstick · 19/05/2020 19:37

I think this as well.

But he is conspcious by his absence. Not even a video message recently.

But if that's the case and he can't fulfil his duties as PM then that needs to be acknowledged and discussed. This is really not the time for a part-time PM.

Pajamagirl · 19/05/2020 19:37

I never thought I’d see the day when PMQ was the highlight of my week , But here we are Grin
Go Keir , it must be like shooting fish in a barrel for him

Haffiana · 19/05/2020 19:38

They will wheel Boris out when it is time for a New Slogan. That is all he is good for.

How about "Stay Alert. Take Back Control"?

AhGoGo · 19/05/2020 19:38

If Boris were a female PM who had been in intensive care recently, was really tired and still recovering, and had a new baby, would we be saying they were incompetent and should stand down? No. Massive double standards on here as usual*

Wishful thinking. If it were a female in his place she’d be hounded our her job until she stepped down by the media and many on these boards would jump in. Have you seen the vitriol in this place?

KindlyFOD · 19/05/2020 19:41

@DoctorHildegardLanstrom

What rumours exactly?

Smartcasual · 19/05/2020 19:44

If we had a female pm in this situation, one would hope she would have the humility and common sense to stand down, if she knew she wasn't physically up to the job, particularly during a pandemic and global economic crisis.

Zilla1 · 19/05/2020 19:46

Younghill, would the bare minimum be leading Cabinet and attending most PMQs - in practice would the minimum be keeping the 1922 committee happy-enough to avoid a leadership challenge) which might not include lots of public-facing stuff people have asked for here? Given the results of a fully active Boris over the last few years, is it clear the UK suffers from the effects of part-Boris?

Guylan · 19/05/2020 19:47

If he is not well enough then he should stand down and appoint an acting leader.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/05/2020 19:47

He's probably been advised by Dominic to remain aloof and "presidential" so others take the fall

I suspect this is the closest answer so far

Fallsballs · 19/05/2020 19:47

I don’t think a woman who had 6 (approx) kids, had affairs and talked garbled rubbish would be a PM. Covid or not.

MintyChapstick · 19/05/2020 19:50

Were the rumours that he likes a drink or ten? I heard that a while ago.

Zilla1 · 19/05/2020 19:50

I must admit a smile when I heard Mr Gove say now is not the time to judge the government's actions but that will happen later. I couldn't help but think he might be talking the truth and see him plan leadership challenge part 2? 3? 4?
