Went to buy plants. Lady in the queue looking frail and with husband carrying her home oxygen tank. Life is for living Smile

I'm sure many would say she should stay at home but I applaud her.

I hope she has many happy visits to buy plants.

Will you stay home so as not to become an unwitting transmitter of disease?

Thought not.

NoCaseToAnswer · 16/05/2020 20:41

@Jaichange

So you're 'with' someone that doesn't know the difference between AGP and home oxygen? The latter posing no risk to others at all? Which is what the garden centre lady was using.

Do you normally 'go with' someone that doesn't actually know what they're talking about?

Why?

Pertella · 16/05/2020 20:42

How is she any more or less selfish than anyone else daring to go outside?

Hunnybears · 16/05/2020 20:42

@BamboozledandBefuddled

Why shouldn't the OP be shocked at some of the comments on here? I frequently think intelligence, understanding and empathy have hit absolute rock bottom on here and yet people still manage to descend to new levels of fuckwittery on a regular basis. There's having a different opinion and there's spewing cruelty and venom. Some people on this thread don't realise there's a difference

But it’s such a decisive topic, why even bother posting them proclaim to be shocked.

People on both ends of the spectrum are suffering. The vulnerable and the ones that aren’t. People are hett up to high heaven right now. It’s real, it’s happening to them. Their lives are changing and not for the better.

Everyone is living with this disease and the implications of it. We all see it from a different perspective so it can’t be a shock when people get so frustrated that they write things they ordinarily wouldn’t.

Same as the majority of order covid threads. Some people just want a reaction.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/05/2020 20:45

No problem @Hunnybears Smile

Rhiannon13 · 16/05/2020 20:49

I'm still being more cautious, but as the garden centres are now open I expect she thought she had the same right to go as everyone else. Which she does. Surely the 'usual' distancing was being adhered to?

Jesus, there's fucking hoards of them. Hmm

StormzyinaTCup · 16/05/2020 20:58

If it's open for business then she has every right to visit and I hope her plants/flowersFlowers bring her happiness.

Mynydd · 16/05/2020 20:58

*Twilight zone man.

Its like the government has sent out a load of flying monkeys out all over the internet to talk the plebs into taking one for the team.*

@gamerchick if it's okay with you I'll just copy and paste that and use it as my response to every single one of these stupid fucking asinine threads. Save my blood pressure skyrocketing and all. Ta.

How easy we were to convince hey. Throw in a few key words - economy, freedom, hereos - open up a few KFCS and garden centres et voilà! Lining up to take one for the team indeed

Alsohuman · 16/05/2020 20:58

aren't we all living through a very challenging situation and staying home/alert in order to protect people exactly like this lady, who should be shielding at home??

No, we’re not. We’re trying to reduce the spread so we don’t overwhelm the NHS.

NamesNamesSoManyNames · 16/05/2020 20:59

Applaud? Slow clap, maybe! I'm sorry, but aren't we all living through a very challenging situation and staying home/alert in order to protect people exactly like this lady, who should be shielding at home?? If dear old lady gets Covid, I doubt her last words before going on a ventilator or dying will be "thank goodness I got those pansies while I had the chance."

She may have been ADVISED to shield. She is a fully functioning adult who I assume has weighed up the pros and cons. For all we know, she was told yesterday that she has weeks to live, and she wants to make her garden lovely to sit in while she puts her affairs in order.
Or maybe she isn't imminently dying, but just wanted to go to the garden centre.
Either way, not our business.

StormzyinaTCup · 16/05/2020 21:04

If dear old lady gets Covid, I doubt her last words before going on a ventilator or dying will be "thank goodness I got those pansies while I had the chance."

Or she might be saying 'thank you for taking me out one last time"

onedayinthefuture · 16/05/2020 21:07

Mumsnet is hands down the most uptight place on Earth. Jeeez. This poor woman has every right, every damn right to go to the garden centre. Bunch of sanctimonious hags on here with sticks so far up their arses it's frightening.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 16/05/2020 21:07

I feel overwhelming happiness and peace when I walk around all the plants in a garden centre. Recently our local plant seller opened up for visitors again. They've been keeping the town happy doing home delivery but now you can go again - it's in a gated spot in an industrial estate. I walked around and had the best half hour or so I've has since we locked down. I bet she's someone like me. Smile

vera99 · 16/05/2020 21:28

Don't look sideways look up - who was shaking hands with coronavirus patients and letting Cheltenham go ahead and ACTUALLY took up a place in ICU? Jog on oxygen garden centre lady I'll save my wrath for the real villains.

TheGreatWave · 16/05/2020 21:34

If dear old lady gets Covid, I doubt her last words before going on a ventilator or dying will be "thank goodness I got those pansies while I had the chance."

No probably not, but that isn't the point. Life is for living, not just existing and if going to a garden centre brings her joy and purpose then that is a positive outcome. I would want to look back (and loved ones) and see joy in what I did.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 16/05/2020 21:45

Good for her.

My dad has terminal lung cancer and is desperate for garden centres to open. I hope he enjoys his visit like this lady.

ohlookthisisjustdaftnow · 16/05/2020 21:47

they opened garden centres because Tory supporters go to garden centres

No - they opened garden centres because the horticulture industry is on its knees, and they have already had to throw away over 400 million plants in the last two months.

Swingingontheswing · 16/05/2020 21:50

Selfish woman and her stupidity is the equivalent of having home oxygen and continuing to smoke.

Save your applause for the medical staff, delivery drivers, supermarket workers who put their and their families lives at risk for us!

Gimmecaffeine · 16/05/2020 21:54

Good for her. Only she knows the reason she decided to go, but going on home oxygen is no easy jaunt. She likely would have thought about and planned this.

It's tacky to see posters in presumably good health jumping on to judge her. I hope they aren't leaving their homes in case they unwittingly catch covid and transmit it on. The risk is the same.

thedancingbear · 16/05/2020 21:54

^If dear old lady gets Covid, I doubt her last words before going on a ventilator or dying will be "thank goodness I got those pansies while I had the chance."

Or she might be saying 'thank you for taking me out one last time"^

I think stormzyinateacup has nailed this one.

In any event, if she's already on oxygen, if she gets covid, she's probably getting nowhere near a ventilator. She'll probably be left on a trolley to die. There's every chance she'll realise this. Her body, her rules.

Haenow · 16/05/2020 21:55

@Hunnybears

The comments that upset and anger me are the ones that discuss the financial impact of covid and the impact of education as of shielded people don’t also experience this. There seems to be this unconscious idea that shielding people can’t/don’t work or have children who are missing school.

SpeedofaSloth · 16/05/2020 21:57

they opened garden centres because Tory supporters go to garden centres

I thought it was because they are by and large outdoor places, and transmission risk is lower outdoors.

The mother of all recessions is upon us, any business that can survive will be putting food on its employees' tables. And gardening is good for mental health which is absolutely going to be its own crisis before this is all over.

Haenow · 16/05/2020 21:58

@ElizabethMountbatten

dear old lady gets Covid, I doubt her last words before going on a ventilator or dying will be "thank goodness I got those pansies while I had the chance."

Ageist and patronising about the ‘dear old lady’. You’re incorrect. Ventilation and ICU is almost always not appropriate for people with end stage lung disease and often, people don’t it anyway. Y
