How do you feel about the slogan changing to "stay alert" instead of of "stay home"?

I know there's quite a few posts this weekend about people's behaviour having already changed, so perhaps this will just mean people feel justified in their actions.

OP posts:
FlaskMaster · 10/05/2020 13:34

Stay alert - for a virus that spreads even without symptoms? What the fuck am I watching out for? Stupid meaningless bullshit.

The "clarification" that stay alert means stay at home bla bla bla - then keep the fucking slogan "stay at home"! It's cretinous.

SqidgeBum · 10/05/2020 13:38

Apparently BoJos 'new' guidelines are now ....

Stay at home as much as possible
Work at home if you can
Limit contact with other people
Keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
Wash your hands regularly
If you or anyone in your household has symptoms, you all need to self-isolate

Anyone feel that's a little familiar? Where is the 'stay alert' in that exactly, as opposed to 'stay at home'?

Mikki2019 · 10/05/2020 13:39

Sturgeon is going to look ridiculous trying to make Scotland adhere to strict lockdown after tonight’s address by Boris

Cuddling57 · 10/05/2020 13:41

Surely Stay Alert should relate to what 'colour' threat we are on?

FlaskMaster · 10/05/2020 13:41

I don't think it's Sturgeon who looks ridiculous here at all. I'd swap Sturgeon for Boris any day.

Itisasecret · 10/05/2020 13:45

Sturgeon is the only one talking sense. The English (which I am) are an arrogant embarrassment, seriously ashamed to be English with all the jingoistic bluster.

Anniesnotmydaddy · 10/05/2020 13:45

We need this - I'm utterly fed up of the curtain twitchers and people screaming that we need to stay in lockdown. I need to try and find work and build my life again as much as possible. I'd also like to be able to go out for a run in the morning and a walk later in the day without nosy people telling me I'm breaking the rules.

My friend who has a company pension is constantly posting things on Facebook about keeping the lockdown and wants it to go on as long as possible. It's very easy if you have an income and can stay at home if you wish. Those people can continue to do so. But some of us need to try and earn a living otherwise our lives won't be worth living.

I'll be careful and have no plans to go out when I don't need to. But we need to try and get back to a sort of normal.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 13:47

I don’t get the whole ‘ashamed’ to be a certain nationality. How can you be ashamed of something you have no control over?
I’m certainly not ashamed to be English. I didn’t vote for this government so their actions are not my responsibility.

SqidgeBum · 10/05/2020 14:21

Unfortunately a government represents a people internationally. The reputation of the UK is damaged internationally by the actions the government takes, especially in a crisis. The media line of 'our fight against the coronavirus has been a success' is not how the rest of the world sees it. The UK is being seen as a failure.

I am not british. I am irish. But I know there are times I am proud to be irish because of my governments actions, and times I am ashamed at their actions on behalf of the irish people.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 14:37

I am neither proud nor ashamed to be English. I am English purely because of where I was born, it was not a choice. Do I think the government have failed in a lot of ways? Of course. But I didn’t vote for them. I’ll leave it up to those who did to feel either pride or shame in their actions.
I will only be proud or ashamed of my own behaviour.

StrawberryJam200 · 10/05/2020 15:17

Poster on another thread has just showed what Boris has posted on Twitter ....
looks to me like lockdown has very much ended.

StrawberryJam200 · 10/05/2020 15:19

Here, worth reading the reactions too:

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 15:20

Isn’t that basically what we were doing anyway?

SqidgeBum · 10/05/2020 15:20

@StrawberryJam200 what did he say? I cant see anything on his Twitter that wpuld indicate the lockdown has basically ended

Bigspender100 · 10/05/2020 15:21

This is no different to what is already happening. The lockdown was a loose one to say the least. People have already interpreted it however they liked and this will just mean more will now do so. It’s just all a load of bluster. The government won’t give a toss who gets this as long as they have the beds to deal with it.

StrawberryJam200 · 10/05/2020 16:11

The message "stay at home if you can" is very different from "stay at home, do not go out apart from for one of only four essential reasons", surely?

HeIenaDove · 10/05/2020 16:17

@RigaBalsam Me too The theme from Beadles About ran through my head as soon as i saw it.

noego · 10/05/2020 16:21

It seems pretty straightforward to me. Don't people understand the English language then???
Perhaps if the medias stopped speculating and spinning stories that they seem to consistently do then maybe we would chill out a bit more.
Lets hear what the man has to say at 7.00 pm before making judgments.
I'm personally getting a a bit pissed of with the British media and their negativity. I wonder how many people have suffered MH issues because they've watching the news, especially Sky, Mark Austin and Beth Rigby can only be described as unintelligent and moronic IMO.
And FYI I am apolitical.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 16:22

Not really StrawberryJam200, as apart from those ‘essential reasons’ where is there to go anyway? Everything is shut.

FirTree31 · 10/05/2020 16:39

Thank you @StrawberryJam200, I read through the replies, brutal.

What does "limit contact with other people " mean exactly. It's very open to interpretation. You could limit contact to family only, or five friends, or no-one at all.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/05/2020 16:41

I assume he’ll clarify those points in his actual speech this evening.

Porcupineinwaiting · 10/05/2020 16:43

So basically, do what you like. Ok then, can see that working well.

Bollss · 10/05/2020 16:45

I really thought the majority on MNers were intelligent. Now i am not so sure.

TheGreatWave · 10/05/2020 16:45

I think it portrays a positive message, a way of going forwards.
