I think it was childcare. Especially the reason behaving the younger ones. With them back, they could open nurseries and childcare settings for much younger children.

Most people, I know, sending their kids back are doing so, so they can continue to earn money.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 19/05/2020 18:14

All this community spirit crap and I've had to cut friends instead of gaining them! It's all twatty bollocks.

Tru dat! Most of them barely even checked in unless they needed something.

I've had more support, entertainment, solidarity and camaraderie from you nutters , and no offence but you're complete strangers. Makes me think sometimes and feel rather sad, but the. i remember I'm an antisocial, grumpy twat anyways and get over it.

Go to school. Protect the economy. Save lives.

Grin

Tbh I don't necessarily have an issue with it, but I would've appreciated the honesty more, schools being let know in advance (not very workable i get it) and having a clear ,timely guidance that doesn't change every week. My poor head is on her 8th risk assessment and that's still subject to change ofc.

Parents are supposed to stay at home and let their offspring feed off their carcasses.

At my size I could keep a battalion fed for a month, longer if they made soup from my bones.

Lack of commitment if you are going out to work.

CrowCat · 19/05/2020 20:11

Princess all this has certainly shown some people up for what they are. I've lost friends and I'm close to losing family - and not from the virus!! My DS has been labelled selfish by my extended family for wanting to reopen his business and start earning money again. He's only been on his own 2 feet for 12 months and has a baby in that time, but he's also set up a shop and is great at what he does. But wanting to get back to work to support his little family is selfish?? Yet DD1 is 'doing the country a great service' by working shitty retail throughout. Makes my blood boil.

More support and community spirit on this thread than I get in real life that's for sure.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 19/05/2020 20:35

Crow what do they expect him to do? Starve his family and end up in the streets? Or take a "superhero" job at a supermarket. I mean, it would prolly still not pay the bills but it will look good.Hmm

Selfish my arse. Tell him crazy banana from the internet think he's awesome and wishes him good luck!

Ah, only evil parents want to feed, house and clothe their children. Alternatively, people who are quite happy with their current arrangements can't understand not everyone is like them. I have a friend in this category. She's a SAHM with a husband currently WFH and she's loving having the children home. Which is fine, I'm glad she's happy. But I don't think she gets how it is for other people.

It's ok for me; baby won't be needing childcare for at least 19 months (7 months inside me followed by 12 months while I'm on maternity.) I'm able to WFH full time. But I can see some of my colleagues who have small kids are really struggling and I feel for them. I know people who are furloughed who are terrified they won't have a job to go back to. Not everyone is in the same boat, not at all. And people who've got ocean liners need to count their blessings, not go round trying to shoot holes in other people's tiny rubber dinghies. And maybe even throw the odd life belt.

I think that metaphor got away from me a bit...

Willow2017 · 19/05/2020 22:03

Crow what a crap partner and dad he is! Shame on him. Doesnt he know there is a PANDEMIC????? I just don't know whats wrong with people these days, wanting roofs over their heads and food on their tables, really!

Well bless me I won the lottery! Well £30, spect I wont be retiring then? Oh well its bought my plants for me Grin Now next time if I ever remember to get a ticket, it might be £30m... cries at the knowledge its never going to happen

Honestly I don't know what people expect. Do they think this can go on indefinitely? I really think some people are loving this.

Willow2017 · 19/05/2020 22:50

Of course not Oh Noble Leader😊 i will buy you a special bench made of logs to sit on and new trainers to show off while you relax. 🤣

Peggysgettingcrazy · 20/05/2020 06:45

So my test is booked today! Yay! Pointless, but yay!

Is it wrong I hope I get stopped driving into the city? Surely 'i need to be tested for covid' is a valid reason? Bet its not for some.Grin

It is like some people really do think families being homeless or foodless, is an preferred to the small risk of catching covid.

I remember someone posting their bil trims trees for the railway lines and was having abuse shouted at him. Someone came along told them it was illegal to trims trees at this time of year and it wasnt needed to the bastard shouldnt be out. It was pointed out it wasn't illegal, but they did have to check for nesting birds first and the we need the trains to be ablebto run for key workers and for when this is over said poater still wouldnt have it. He was evil and deaerved shouting at.

Its amazing that people genuinely think everything should stop. Except for the services they want to use.

As an aside, I have the news on. They are saying that people are expected to flock to beauty spots as the weather is so good. Its Wednesday. Surely the solution would be to get more people working, in controlled conditions. Then there wouldn't be loads of people that CAN flock to beauty spots 🤷‍♀️

The frothers should prefer people working?

GnomeDePlume · 20/05/2020 07:00

Peggy yes they should be working but only on things frothers want. Frothers want shelves to be stacked but they dont want to see it happen. Frothers want the things they want to be available in plentiful supply.

Frothers want people to get out into the fields and start picking but wont be doing this themselves because, you know, reasons.

Frothers want their things delivered but only if the delivery person delivers it by magic. But devil take their neighbours getting deliveries.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 20/05/2020 07:16

Its all very 'the help should be so good, you dont even know they are there', upstairs downstairs vibe.

They want it doing, but not to see how it is.

GMB had footage of Brighton front, from yesterday. It wasn't packed but a few people about. A few getting a takeaway beer, enjoying the sun. One bloke, having a beer, moaning there was too many people, hard to SD and he was doing his best etc

It was OK though cause he said 'I am local though....lots of these people arent', with disdain.

Now going out and having a beer is great. But if there's too many people around for your liking, bloody leave. If there weren't extra people around it wouldn't be worth opening the bar for take away beers. So it wouldnt be open at all.

Its amazing how some people want things open to benefit them, but not benefit others. Then complain about there being too many people, but staying right there. Contributing to the amount of people.

But its ok...cause local.

GnomeDePlume · 20/05/2020 07:26

It is very much like at the start: how dare these people be out in my park!

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 20/05/2020 07:45

Morning all.

peggy I remember the thread with the tree cutting.

Gnome oh yes so much moaning about people walking that they don't know/haven't seen before. The fact that 1.people are at home during the the day and 2.other exercise options were shut completely passed them by.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 20/05/2020 07:59

My mum made a joke the other day that people who didn't bake before lockdown should be banned from baking now as its making her hobby hard to do, when she can't get hold of stuff. Genuine joke. She thinks its great some many people are baking and giving things ago, that they wouldn't normally have time for.

I pointed out that people actually do believe that. I told her threads here said that people who didn't bake their bread before were ruining it for people who did, they probably wouldn't get it right and go buy some anyway. It was wasteful, unfair and pointless. I also told her that people were annoyed at people exercising, if they hadn't been observed exercising before

Mum was gobsmacked. As she is sheilding and doesnt really use social media that much, most of this has passed her by. She couldnt believe how insane its got. I did tell her it was starting to calm down and was worse. But only a bit Grin

I am going to call Trev this morning and give him a full run down of my health since I was ill in February and tell him I am being tested. That should waste half day!

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 20/05/2020 08:05

Ohhh you're going to make Trev's day. This is what he has been "training" for.

Willow2017 · 20/05/2020 08:10

Morning.

Off to work soon how very dare i?!!

Yep i remember that thread too madness.

110APiccadilly · 20/05/2020 08:38

Just been looking at the ONS stats. In all of April (last full month, so they've had time to analyse the data properly), there was... one confirmed Covid death of a child aged 10 to 14. No confirmed deaths of any under 9. In the whole UK (ONS covers England and Wales, but I found Scotland stats as well). But you should definitely keep your children home for their own safety, even if that means you can't earn any money.

110APiccadilly · 20/05/2020 08:40

To add, I do get that there are wider arguments about teacher safety, kids spreading the virus, etc. But anyone who thinks their children are doomed because they've gone back to school needs a bit of mathematical/ statistical education.
