Morning all! There's a high chance of a small killing spree today. The sun is out and I need pound shop stuff. It's all part of the rock n roll lifestyle Grin

I understand my mum is worried, she's 84. But she also has pretty good health and was fairly independent before all this. Her translation of lockdown and the guidelines is that she shouldn't go outside other than in her back garden where no one can get near her. She's not shielding or anything like that but will only speak to me through a crack in the door and then when I'm back down the path at the other side of the gate she'll stand on the doorstep. So about 6 meters away! My brother and his GF live with her and I think they've taken on the roll of high protectorate of the mothership sooo..

Ho hum.

110APiccadilly · 12/05/2020 13:50

So furlough has been extended for four months, which is good for people in some sectors/with childcare problems, but concerns me in that the government obviously think we'll still be locked down enough in September for it to be necessary.

Also, though I don't want to sound too much like a grouchy rich tax dodger (believe me, I am not rich and therefore have never had the resources required to dodge tax even if I wanted to) where on earth is the money coming from?! I see either extremely high taxes, or very much inflation, or possibly both in our future.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 12/05/2020 14:00

I suspect both too , with even more cuts as the cherry on top. This is what the frothers are wilfully ignoring atm, that there is a life after Covid. There is a future and things won't start exactly from where they left off.

And regardless of how, why, how long they stayed at home everyone will end up paying for this period of time.

I think the furlough thing is quite complicated.

I think they need it in place for some people for a while. But I think that, they will epxcted the vast majority to not using it.

I would imagine by then there will checks or threats of back dating checks to make sure companies actually needed to do it.

The companies that can work, if they put proper policies in place will be expected to be working

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 12/05/2020 14:39

There are several industries that will need it for quite a while, especially since there's no guarantee that things will start moving in July. And I think even if they do, some places will still struggle with people being afraid to be out and about .

Yes, I forgot cuts (or the equivalent just by not raising funding in line with hyper-inflation?). I think that's inevitable at this point. If we keep this going for four months, 2010 style cuts will start to look like state funded paradise for all.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 12/05/2020 14:53

One of the builders redoing the upstairs flat is Corona conspiracist . He doesn't know anyone that died so it's all bollocks and it's a plot to bring down the world superpowers.

Had a "lovely" chat.

I don't know whether I should ask, but... who is behind this plot?

Hi smile, what a lovely day that sounds like! The sun went in here so we did hair dyeing and generally had a pamper: I've got no work on which is a worry because it wasn't too bad the first 7 weeks of lockdown but if this is going on indefinitely I'm gonna be up the creek. Much worry. But we'll see eh.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 12/05/2020 18:24

Didn't dare ask , was worried if i rolled my eyes any more he'd drop a hammer on my head. Grin

I was only being nosy about the repairs ffs.

Phew! I am exhausted!

In a fit of domestic efficiency because he couldnt get to the allotment DH went round the house and sorted out all the door catches so that they actually catch. For the last 10 years it has only been necessary to push on a door to open it. Now I have to turn door handles. This has near trebbled my daily exercise!

Perhaps a lttle early for you CrowCat but I will give you a whoop whoop!

Just today to survive then I have two days of holiday and a weekend!

If I am really lucky my boss will manage to not phone me for four whole days! Even if she does I will be able to reply with 'no, I'm standing in the middle of a field, without my laptop, so I cant see the spreadsheet you are looking at'. I swear she thinks that when I am not answering her phone calls I am sat with my thumb up my arse and a vacant expression on my face.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 13/05/2020 06:50

@GnomeDePlume one of those bosses that think they are doing you a favour by giving you some work to do, because you must be so bored and miserable having time off?

I got an email, last night asking me to confirm, I am working at home and not the office. Not even from my boss, from the self appointed 'Covid Management' person.

I replied 'I am not working at all....its 8.30pm bob'.

I will reply this morning and confirm I am in my spare room.

Apparently people are sneaking into the offices to work Hmm. I work at head office. The 2 receptionists are still there (separate rooms) I am not getting in without anyone knowing.

Fucking pointless question at that time of night.

GnomeDePlume · 13/05/2020 07:23

@Peggysgettingcrazy exactly!

Is your Covid Management person the person who normally flaps about the office doing other pointless busybody tasks? (complaining about coffee cups left on desks, fridge monitoring, constant fiddling about with the aircon). Comes in extra early or stays late to check people arent using the photocopier for private purposes (people caught printing off an insurance certificate get hauled over the coals) but will think nothing of printing off signs telling people to tidy their desks.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 13/05/2020 07:36

Kind of. I dont know him that well.

He only started just before Christmas. He used to work for the MD in another job. He is like the world's worst spy, for the MD.

He runs to the MD with every sniff of gossip. Has no idea how our big and complex company works. Generally interfers in everyone business and is constantly listening into conversations.
He does indeed get in super early and seem very annoyed when people manage to get there before him. He pointedly stays late and makes sure everyone knows.

When this started he contacts all the departments to ask for additional reporting. Making peoples jobs harder. And it was reporting I already did. So we had a run in, where I pointed out all reporting requests come through me first. No one else. Not direct to the departments. Me and my team. Thats the whole point of us. He didn't like that Covid Managment did not change the structure of the business. The MD backed me on this.

He decided to ration the antibacterial wipes and literally gave people one wipe to clean their desk. You had to ask him for one and he would take one out and give you it.

He also has a clipboard and constantly reminds us he is in agree of civid management. When we were in the offixe he often just rushed around with his clipboard looking very concerned. He also has some minions that keep trying to implement random policies, like you need his approval to go pick up printing from work. Bollocks to that.

He also told me i need to discuss my reporting changes with him....for no reason. Not happening.

The H&S director, gave him the job to make him go away. The H&S director thinks he is a dick, but he was spending all his time bothering him. So he gave this role to piss off. Grin
