I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Bumping as I'm interested :)

LittleRen · 05/05/2020 15:52

It’s so easy to find the website selling these for £99 she doesn’t need to give the link. Google Covid 19 antibody test....

LittleRen · 05/05/2020 15:53

It’s a paid ad at the top.

RubyViolet · 05/05/2020 15:54

Not sure l want to know the results, l think l have had and am holding onto the idea l might possibly have the antibodies. Still living as if l haven’t had it... if it came back negative that l had no immunity at all it might make me more anxious.

LittleRen · 05/05/2020 15:55

Putting the blood in the tube looks painfully slow... I feel bad for the courier Grin

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 05/05/2020 15:56

It's interesting. There was a massive fight about these tests in a business group I'm a member of. Someone was offering them. Someone else had refused to offer them.
The mark-up was incredible but the clinic that refused to buy them just thought there wasn't any point. If you're positive then you need to shield/self-isolate. And if you're negative, it could be a false negative so you still need to shield/self-isolate. Their consultants felt that if you have COVID19 antibodies, it doesn't mean you won't get it again and there's no conclusion about whether a second infection will be milder or more severe.
Saying all that, I'm still desperate to know how it all goes Laurie Grin

Fascinated to see what happens!

What were your symptoms, and when?

Grumpbum123 · 05/05/2020 15:57

My H did this even though it’s something daft like 80% false negatives. I bloody loved getting the blood out of his finger though.

timeforawine · 05/05/2020 16:00

Following in interest

chomalungma · 05/05/2020 16:00

f you're positive then you need to shield/self-isolate

No - if you are positive for antibodies, then you have had the disease.

ihatethecold · 05/05/2020 16:02

AngryBananaSund

Well all I have to say about testing, is that FIL had all the symptoms- but the tests kept coming back negative until the fifth test!

I think you are talking about testing for the virus being present rather than an antibody test.

User0987613 · 05/05/2020 16:02

If it’s one of those finger prick tests where a line shows up then sadly those are a scam. They’re available all over Aliexpress and are nowhere near accurate enough to test for the exact antibody and titer of Covid19. Some will produce false positives or negatives for other types of coronavirus, to which anyone with a common cold will have had.

The only reliable antibody tests are blood draws that are sent to a lab.

Considering that Covid19 has only existed in humans for less than 5 months, and the earliest recovered patients with antibodies have only existed for 4 months, it’s baffling how people genuinely believe that scientists have created an accurate pregnancy-test style antibody kit ready for commercial use within that time frame.

Sparklingbrook · 05/05/2020 16:03

Also following with interest. My main concern being able to get the blood out while the courier waits. I would get stage fright, and they may need a cuppa while they wait. Grin

PinkSquash · 05/05/2020 16:04

I am interested in how this goes!

Trichford · 05/05/2020 16:05

It is a lab test...

Lightsabre · 05/05/2020 16:07

How would you fill a vial from a finger prick test? I took a private one too on about Day 28 - it was negative for antigen/antibodies. Disappointing as I'm sure I've had it (and still suffering post virally) as do all the GP's I've consulted including the private one who administered the test.

Trichford · 05/05/2020 16:07

Sorry if someone has already posted this link, it's in the pharmatimes http://www.pharmatimes.com/news/abbottlaunchesscovid-19lab-baseddantibodytestt_1339336

Lightsabre · 05/05/2020 16:07

I meant fill a vial from a pricked finger.

Literally the funniest post by someone who's not read the thread as everything you say is now what we're talking about

It is a lab, it is accurate.

I admit I'm a bit scared about filling the vial Blush

let us know what happens. I'm curious as I think I have had it too back in Feb. Following with interest!

Aridane · 05/05/2020 16:11

Ah - Googled covid 19 anti body test as per another poster. Didn’t get me any hits on how to get one but did take me to a BMJ article about it and its CE mark

chomalungma · 05/05/2020 16:14

I admit I'm a bit scared about filling the vial

I used to work in a lab - and we regularly took 50ml blood 'samples' from each other (well, the lab doctor did), so we could use the blood in our experiments.

ememem84 · 05/05/2020 16:17

Oooh

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 05/05/2020 16:18

No - if you are positive for antibodies, then you have had the disease
choma the consultants at the clinic that refused to sell the test said there was no benefit because even if you'd had Covid, it didn't mean you wouldn't get it again and there was no way of telling whether it would be more or less severe, the second time. So, their view was, regardless of the results, you should still be following the lockdown and self-isolating.
