I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Disclaimer : it won't affect my behaviour in line with current government guidelines

I thought any test could have false positives as well as false negatives? There might be different rates of them happening but they could still happen...

FourTeaFallOut · 05/05/2020 15:13

Maybe you'll be walking around town one day and bump into your own Dolly the Sheep style clone? Hmm, hmmm, couriers do that.

chomalungma · 05/05/2020 15:13

Having just googled it - the lab (assuming it's the one you are getting it done at is the same) is regulated, it takes part in QA testing etc.

Which is important.

So basically - it will be interesting to see what happens.

And what you would do with the results. I suppose peace of mind for a positive test. You might get a green passport

TheGirlWhoLived · 05/05/2020 15:15

Hmm this will be interesting!

MarshaBradyo · 05/05/2020 15:16

Haha Four that made me laugh

MarshaBradyo · 05/05/2020 15:16

If there’s a green passport in the offing I’ll do it too (doubt I’ve had it though)

ChikiTIKI · 05/05/2020 15:18

My brother got offered an antibody test by his physio the other day for £50 (he declined)

Right before lockdown our friends colleague spent £400 on a swab for coronavirus which came back positive (so our friend is pretty much certain they've had it as they got ill too)

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 15:22

I could do with a clone....

Id be sending that fucker to work instead of me

Dh has just said the opposite to what I've said (I'm self employed and I've said I will tell my clients and the firm I contract for) but he's a teacher and if he's positive he thinks he'll be given all the shit close contact jobs to do Grin

Ooohh I'm intrigued, and weirdly excited!!

LimitIsUp · 05/05/2020 15:24

I'm interested. Dh is a financial adviser and meetings with clients work better face to face. Would be good to know if he has had it (we were all sick end of January beginning of February)

Duckingell · 05/05/2020 15:25

Interesting OP.

Placemarking to see what your results come back as.

I think many of us may have had it and not known.

Namechangewhy · 05/05/2020 15:25

I’m excited to know your results op so please come back and update us!

LudaMusser · 05/05/2020 15:29

Complete waste of money

If you find out you've had c-19 so what? It doesn't make you immune

If you haven't got it, you could get it next time you go out

Futurenostalgia · 05/05/2020 15:30

I’m not sure I would trust the test or the whole process or the bloke on the bike.

I would definitely have an nhs one when they become available.

BrooHaHa · 05/05/2020 15:31

Let us know how it goes. I don't like the sound of the finger-squeezing blood collection.

AngryBananaSund · 05/05/2020 15:31

Well all I have to say about testing, is that FIL had all the symptoms- but the tests kept coming back negative until the fifth test!

prosecco1969 · 05/05/2020 15:31

I would’ve thought an antibody test rather unreliable? Place marking for results!

Aridane · 05/05/2020 15:34

Ooh, it’s like a covid Deliveroo service

chomalungma · 05/05/2020 15:34

I would’ve thought an antibody test rather unreliable

Not really. There are very good tests that do show the levels of Covid-19 antibodies in the blood - especially if they are done in a professional lab with analysers.

But there, as with other tests, always some issues.

Aridane · 05/05/2020 15:35

I would be curious as to whether the flu I had in January was flu or covid.

cabbageking · 05/05/2020 15:37

It’s illegal to supply home tests in the UK because none have so far received a CE mark. Have you checked this is not a scam?

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 15:40

Not illegal - lab test

Has a CE mark

Smiling at posters thinking lauriefarycake is nuts.

They were bonkers before Covid. (BBC) in the nicest possible way.

Watching with interest.

It's not a scam. Carried out by private labs.

Here's the data sheet for people if they are interested

SirVixofVixHall · 05/05/2020 15:43

Laurie could you pm me the website if you get a moment ? My DH was ill in late Feb, CV symptoms but we assumed not because of the timing.
