I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Disclaimer : it won't affect my behaviour in line with current government guidelines

My test from Blue Horizon came through positive today. Confirmed what I thought but doesn't change anything!

Namechangervaver · 20/05/2020 13:30

This means that PHE independently found the Abbott test to be on average 93.9% sensitive and if you had the disease more than 40 days ago, it is 87.5% sensitive. So not 100%, as claimed by the manufacturers.

Hmm, this tells me that the antibodies don't last very long and any immunity is likely to be short-lived Sad

Namechangervaver · 20/05/2020 13:31

@norbert23 do you live with your partner, and if so were you socially distancing from him at home?

cathyandclare · 20/05/2020 13:33

Not necessarily, it's different tests. The Roche test becomes more sensitive over time, with 100% sensitivity over after 40 days.

Egghead68 · 20/05/2020 13:37

If you and I haven't haven't had Coronavirus, @egghead68, after all we've been through, then I'm a Dutchman (as my grandmother used to say), positive test or not

I agree @onlinelinda - I really can’t think what else we could have had.

norbert23 · 20/05/2020 13:41

@Namechangervaver no we think he had it at the end of feb, which coincides with my DD and half her class coughing and when I felt really run down, achey, sore eyes but no cough. I put it down to having a 5 month old who wasn't sleeping but maybe it wasn't! I'll wait and see what the Roche test says when they're available 🤞

norbert23 · 20/05/2020 13:42

He also only had a slight cough and though he had a bit of a cold. Nothing bad enough to miss work

Zarara · 20/05/2020 15:24

@starlilly88 how long did it take to get your results? I sent mine off on Monday, just wondering when I could expect mine back.

LockedInMadness · 20/05/2020 15:37

I notice Superdrug are selling them now. (Sorry if someone else mentioned this and I missed it).

SirVixofVixHall · 20/05/2020 15:52

Which test are Superdrug selling ? I wonder if it is worth my DH also doing the Roche test, or if it is a bit silly as he’s had a negative Abbott test ? He was ill at the end of Feb, could that mean the test would less accurate for him ?

starlilly88 · 20/05/2020 15:57

@zarara

I sent mine off on Saturday but it didn't get collected until Monday, despite them having a collection on Saturday. So don't think it got to the lab until Tuesday, result first thing Wednesday

HowFurloughCanYouGo · 20/05/2020 16:08

Superdrug are selling what?

mackers1 · 20/05/2020 16:22

Superdrug are selling the Abbot one. I ordered the Abbot one online for £49. Sent sample blood in on Monday and received results this afternoon confirming I have the antibodies. I was unwell over the easter weekend with relatively moderate symptoms but the most telling was the loss of smell and taste.

I hope the government take into account all these private test results as otherwise I, and many others, won't be part of the statistics.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 20/05/2020 17:19

Got mine arriving tomorrow (tested.com) abbot test - sane as the Superdrug test but £49. I’m nervous about the results because if that wasn’t Corona, I’ll eat my hat. Still got the cough 7 weeks later. I haven’t told anyone I’m doing it because I want to do the Roche one if it’s better.
Interestingly Tested.com checked who I was before test was issued like a previous poster mentioned. I presume they are keeping records somewhere.

HowFurloughCanYouGo · 20/05/2020 17:40

So do Abbot and Roche test the same part of the immune system?

HowFurloughCanYouGo · 20/05/2020 17:42

It's just that Abbot reduce in accuracy over time but Roche increase in accuracy over time.
I don't understand why that is?

planetcloud · 20/05/2020 18:07

Well for someone who has had no bother getting blood taken I have to say that was horrendous trying to get enough blood to fill the wee bottle for the sample - got it through Treated today. Kitchen looks like a scene from a horror film, my fingers covered in blood but not exactly dripping in blood. All I can say I must have good blood clotting skills! Got there in the end and hope I have enough for a sample but won't be trying that again for a while!

Pokemontrainer · 20/05/2020 19:57

I wonder if anyone here can tell me how long is it taking to get treated.com anitibody test results?

Egghead68 · 20/05/2020 20:23

Does anyone think it’s worth taking a couple of aspirin before taking the sample to try to keep the blood flowing?
Has anyone tried to take it from anywhere other than their fingertips?

PonderTweek · 20/05/2020 20:24

This is not like me, but I have gone and got myself a test as well. Arrived today and I'll do it tomorrow. I'm expecting it to be negative but I'm curious. My whole family had an odd virus mid-March and I was kind of hoping it was Covid so it would be done and dusted, but logically it would have been really unlikely as there were very few cases in my area then, and there still aren't many now.

Pokemontrainer · 20/05/2020 20:28

Egghead I warmed my hands -

It took me 3 of the lancets but I got it done in the end.

I found the little finger best and I had to milk my fingers if that makes sense? It took me 45 mins to fill up the sample so don't give up and they say if it clots to wait a while and try again 😀

Pokemontrainer · 20/05/2020 20:29

Egghead I think it would need to be a finger prick as otherwise you can't collect the sample and yes there is a fair amount of blood spilled or at least I found it a bit messy.

Pokemontrainer · 20/05/2020 20:30

I really hope I am positive I went through a little spell of hell but nowhere as bad as so many others.

Anyone else sick of people saying but how do you know?

Egghead68 · 20/05/2020 20:36

Thanks. I’m really not looking forward to collecting the sample (and only have two lancets so may have to resort to a razor blade or something. Someone is collecting the sample at 9am so I’ll be collecting it early tomorrow morning under time pressure.

Yes - totally sick of the how do you know/ have you had a test brigade (most recently my mother this evening Angry)

SouthWestmom · 20/05/2020 20:36

I can't find the Superdrug one or tested.com - have they been removed ?
