Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

I was kind of hoping it was Covid so it would be done and dusted,

I think it’s very optimistic to hope for long-term immunity unfortunately.

Pokemontrainer · 20/05/2020 20:46

It is tested.com not treated and is still there Smile

starlilly88 · 20/05/2020 20:47

Anyone managed to get a test for an under 18? My son is 16 and want to get him tested but some sites say 18 and over while some don't say. Don't want to put his DOB down and send it off for them to not process it

Pokemontrainer · 20/05/2020 20:51

I would be very interested in this too starlilly

Also I have just seen my test should be turned around in 24 hours after receipt so it shouldn't be too long for me.

CoCoCorona · 20/05/2020 21:03

www.bbc.com/news/uk-52747112 interesting read.

PonderTweek · 20/05/2020 21:12

@Egghead68 Ahh, I know. Sad But it would make the virus seem perhaps less scary if we had already had it once, if that makes sense. I think it's the unknown that freaks me out. It seems no-one really knows about immunity at this stage, but hopefully we'll learn more soon.

SouthWestmom · 20/05/2020 21:21

@Pokemontrainer

Do you mean it's treated.com?

Thank you

Egghead68 · 20/05/2020 21:30

Did the blood sample this evening with the aid of a large brandy. Will be posted first thing tomorrow. Bit of a nightmare. Blood went everywhere but in the sample tube. Two lancets was not enough to had to try stabbing myself with a kitchen knife (failed) and sewing needles (worked eventually). Took about 45 mins as a PP said and didn’t quite fill the tube. I found my ring finger was best and you need to work fast before the blood clots.

onlinelinda · 20/05/2020 21:30

I think the Roche test isn't yet available.

Egghead68 · 20/05/2020 21:33

I know what you mean @Pondertweak. My experience of the virus I had (Covid or not) has been pretty scary though and I’d be terrified of catching it again.

FFS. I honestly hope you’re joking! This is precisely the reason why these kinds of tests shouldn’t be done at home by people with no clinical experience. Contaminated kitchen knives and needles? Jesus.

Pokemontrainer · 20/05/2020 22:39

@noeuf exactly as @onelinelinda said

Pokemontrainer · 20/05/2020 22:42

cococorona yes it isn't ideal and I think an extra lancet would be good but .. people are desperate to know.

I was fortunate that the pin pricks work and I see no reason why people should not do it at home if they are able to.

The testing in the UK has been a joke.

Does anyone know if the antibody test is able to be used for children if not, then why not?

Namechangervaver · 20/05/2020 23:44

It's not that bad getting the blood sample! The kit comes with three lancets. You don't see a needle and it's fine. A few drops of blood and the tube is full.

SouthWestmom · 20/05/2020 23:45

@Pokemontrainer
@onlinelinda

Thank you I'm so tempted

Egghead68 · 21/05/2020 00:17

The Guardian is saying that Ortho Clinical Diagnostics’ newly PHE-approved test has higher specificity than Roche’s and Abbott’s.Ortho Clinical Diagnostics has two lab-based tests. PHE has validated the first of these, which detects a single antibody called IGG, and is expected to validate the other, which detects all antibodies produced, this week.

Pandemiccrisismode · 21/05/2020 04:33

My Abbot test came back negative. Although it's over 40 days since I had symptoms.

I was in bed with exhaustion, cough, sore throat and fever around the middle of March for 9 days.

I had the flu vaccination so didn't think it was that but isn't 100% effective either. Would be tempted to get Dh the Roche test as a double check but I think I have wasted enough money.

chomalungma · 21/05/2020 09:21

I wonder if the OP will get her result before the end of the thread?

Egghead68 · 21/05/2020 09:29

In case anyone hasn’t seen this - antibody tests for NHS front line workers:

MyOtherProfile · 21/05/2020 09:32

Did we ever hear about the OP?

SouthWestmom · 21/05/2020 10:08

I'm tempted. I was really ill with a chest infection (antibiotics given on about day 8 of feeling generally ill sore throat, breathing worse, etc) and then had two days of not being able to get out of bed with headache and exhaustion and turning yellow according to dm and then the stupid cough that kept going for a couple of weeks. Started mid Feb and was really ill end Feb. One Older dc got a similar version but lasted less time and was less ill.

AvocadoPrime · 21/05/2020 10:25

Well something floored me for weeks but apparently not CV. My abbott test came back negative this morning!

Egghead68 · 21/05/2020 10:40

I don’t trust these tests @AvocadoPrime. What’s making us all ill with the weird symptoms of highly infectious Covid-19 at the time of a Covid-19 outbreak apart from Covid-19? I work in a Covid-19 hotspot hospital and also live in a hotspot and several of my colleagues came down with the same symptoms shortly before me. If it’s not Covid, what could it be?

bumblenbean · 21/05/2020 10:42

Just seen this today which is frustrating as our nanny was convinced she had it but test cane back negative. I was about to do one myself but now not sure it’s worth it if the result could easily be wrong ...

I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us
