Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

@changemynamechangemynamewhen
I heard one scientist talking about how he thinks it was here in Nov/Dec and this is the second peak.

Sandybval · 11/05/2020 17:49

That's annoying you haven't had the result yet, have they responded at all?

Plexie · 11/05/2020 17:49

I heard one scientist talking about how he thinks it was here in Nov/Dec and this is the second peak.

So when was the first peak?

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 11/05/2020 17:52

Lol but there was no peak in December/January as the death rate wasn't higher than usual

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 11/05/2020 17:54

Hopefully this explains things better- notice the huge increase in March/April

@AgathaX the same I was going to order with blue horizon but their trust pilot is 3/3 negative. I had the same experience with the private Harley street doctor, so I’ll go with the one the OP used as at least they had the kits posted and a result

minny80 · 11/05/2020 17:58

Minny the evidence in the massive spike in death rate from March until now would not support that

Yep I disagree given that:

  • The first Covid-19 case in China has been found to be in November 2019 www.livescience.com/first-case-coronavirus-found.html
  • fatality rate seems to be very small (1% though that's only an estimate so far) and on the other hand we have been testing coverage is very poor.
  • the majority of the people who catch it only gets mild symptoms and apparently a significant percentage no symptoms at all

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the virus was lurking in the UK, although in smaller pockets much sooner than March. Anyway atm we really don't have enough data to prove or disprove it Smile

I bought the antibody test as well, I have been travelling extensively betwee US western coast and Europe in December and January so I am curious to see the results.

YouAreMySunshinee · 11/05/2020 18:17

@Plexie nov/Dec he was talking about a lot of people being ill and passing with pneumonia but then no one knew about this virus

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 11/05/2020 18:26

I need closure on this

CherryStoneTree · 11/05/2020 18:45

I’ve ordered from the same company as the OP, but not the couriered option so I’ll be waiting a while for my result.

Bimbleboo · 11/05/2020 19:11

Could someone share the source where this being a potential second peak was discussed? I dont buy the idea but would be curious to read this regardless.

Deux · 11/05/2020 19:24

I think the suggestion that this was perhaps the second peak came from Italy.

Also in France a doctor had samples retested from patients in December 2019 and found one case positive for Coronavirus.

Me and DP were really poorly at the end of january. In hindsight the symptoms fit the virus perfectly, in particular the breathlessness, loss of smell and the dry cough (that turned into quite a phlegmy cough after about 3 weeks). I will not be remotely suprised if/when the nhs start antibody testing staff we are both found to have had it.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/05/2020 20:40

Well, the OP and her OH were both convinced they had COVID

.... but he at least has now had a negative test for antibodies

User0987613 · 11/05/2020 20:54

If you Google Streetview the address (2 Pensbury Street) then the company looks fairly sketchy. It’s a back alley in an industrial lot opposite “Star Motors Car Repairs”. The address itself is a pub and you have to move down the street and look backwards to find a green sign on the wall of the pub with London Medical Laboratory on it. Other units in the building are “Mayfair Cleaning Company Ltd”, “Farleigh Consultants” and “Profile Security Services Ltd”. The second floor (zone) of the building has no name so presumably empty.

It looks a lot like a cheap, office-address-to-go type of place. Lots of empty units for rent, high turnover. I cannot imagine a serious medical company investing money to install all the required lab equipment. An average medical clinic costs in the range of 500K - 2M to install. No medical business would risk investing that much in a shabby “unit” based office block.

Sorry to say it but this looks a lot like a scam. They probably set up the cheapest adhoc “lab” using portable equipment and are now too busy raking in cash than processing their orders. Would not be surprised at all if samples have gone missing or incorrectly stored and would take whatever result comes out with a pinch of salt.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/05/2020 21:05

Be careful about naming a company, user

If they are legit, they may ask MN for your details - to sue the pants off you

Aridane · 11/05/2020 21:26

@User0987613

Thank you very much - you have probably saved me some cash - their website looked very professional

chomalungma · 11/05/2020 21:50

A laboratory should have lots of expensive equipment.

Always look at the accounts

Companies House information is very interesting

CherryStoneTree · 11/05/2020 22:24

@User0987613 thanks, I’ve probably wasted money and should have done the research you have done.

Aridane · 11/05/2020 22:27

No such company at Companies House...

WoeIsMee · 11/05/2020 22:31

Hope you get the result you want!

BoxOfShapes · 11/05/2020 22:34

@User0987613 Impressive sleuth work! Actually, it's becoming more normal for labs to set up in office spaces (but you're right this isn't without complications: see this article for eg). London Medical Laboratories has been around since 2016 and the attached image is of the site it occupies.

Obviously there are no absolute guarantees, but I ordered my test from them with NHS discount and have had swift and reassuring correspondence directly from a legitimate NHS doctor so far.

Sorry, meant @Aridane

SirVixofVixHall · 11/05/2020 22:43

Blue Horizon have been going for a while, I needed thyroid tests a yera or so back, and I can’t remember if I used Blue Horizon or a another company, I think called Medichecks? I was weighing up which one to choose, and can’t recall who I went with.
