I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Following with interest too

drcb83 · 11/05/2020 06:43

So 4% of people have had Covid outside London and 15% in London so less chance of a 'yes' outside than in.

ihatethecold · 11/05/2020 08:23

But so many people weren’t tested so how can they accurately say how many people have had it?

NotAnotherUserNumber · 11/05/2020 08:34

@drcb83

Where are those prevalence statistics from? Have they done a serology sample study and released the results?

hmums · 11/05/2020 09:17

Someone went negative on a drive through swap and then as told 70% accurate, tested negative and was in hospital less than a week later on a vent with covid

Mustbetimeforachange · 11/05/2020 09:24

Thats antigen testing, hmums, not antibody which is what this thread is about. Sampling for antigen testing seems to be poor - not getting far enough back in people's throats resulting in false negative tests

drcb83 · 11/05/2020 09:25

Cannot say, Chatham house rules in that meeting.
As an aside, a person close to me runs a covid screening lab (rural) and they are seeing 2-4% positives when not hospital samples (just gen pop) so seems to stack up

ThSims · 11/05/2020 09:26

The director of the program Doc Martin tested negative twice despite being in hospital suffering terribly with covid. They had to diagnose him by looking at Xrays of his lungs.

The swab tests aren't very reliable at all.

drcb83 · 11/05/2020 09:29

Agreed there is variability. Some sites pick up positives on samples others say are negative. Rare but happens

firstmentat · 11/05/2020 09:34

There appears to be a lot (and growing number) of people commenting that they thought they had this at Christmas or January, ignoring there are other viruses circulating all the time....
Exactly. I would've sworn I have had covid in early February, all the textbook symptoms- except that I actually was tested and found to have influenza.

BillHadersNewWife · 11/05/2020 09:34

Has op not had her results yet?

BMW6 · 11/05/2020 09:36

Wonder if you'll get your test results today OP. Very interested in the result

Mybrowneyedgal · 11/05/2020 11:22

The suspense is killing me!

PotteryLady · 11/05/2020 13:14

Really interested in your results-how accurate you feel they are if negative?

hellsbells99 · 11/05/2020 15:18

Hi Op. I am also watching this thread with interest

CoronaIsShit · 11/05/2020 15:34

I was just about to order this same test. Was only going to do DH as he is still working, in contact with the public and he/I would feel more comfortable knowing what we all had in Feb was Corona and it’s unlikely he’ll bring it home so I can stop making him strip at the front door! Also assume if he is positive for antibodies, that would indicate we all had it at that time. Holding fire to see if OP posts her results and if they’re different to her DHs which would potentially indicate an issue with the test as we’ve continuously been told that CV is extremely infectious.

Looking forward to you coming back OP.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 11/05/2020 16:25

Have also been eyeing up the antibody test but was too stingy... I think I may have had a very mild version of CV in mid March. Had a slightly raised temp, felt off for about 10-12 days but still able to do stuff and had completely lost my sense of smell and taste. Spoke to a colleague who had the same and apparently another colleague had it quite severely (but without hospital admission). Would love to know if this was IT.
Very interested in your results OP!

LaurieFairyCake · 11/05/2020 16:37

Still not had my result (I've emailed them)

I'm in London so very much hoping I've had it

kevintheorangecarrot · 11/05/2020 16:39

I'm looking at Blue Horizon for antibody test, same price at £99 and turnaround time is quicker.

AgathaX · 11/05/2020 17:02

The Blue Horizon company haven't got any contact info. There is a web contact form but it doesn't work. I can't see any phone number or physical address.

I've just order one from the other site. I feel a bit nervous about the results though.

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 11/05/2020 17:04

Sounds like a total waste of money
Why would you pay for a test for a virus that wasn't even in the UK when you had symptoms? Also it makes no difference if you did have it because it's no guarantee of immunity all it's likely to do is create a false sense of security
Go for the robot vacuum every time

minny80 · 11/05/2020 17:29

Why would you pay for a test for a virus that wasn't even in the UK when you had symptoms?

Well actually it looks like cases might have been circulating in Europe since November 2019. There have been cases of pneumonia which have been retroactively tested and found positive to Covid-19. A few cases in France and Italy at least.

MarshaBradyo · 11/05/2020 17:29

Still no result? Bit annoying! (For you)

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 11/05/2020 17:42

Minny the evidence in the massive spike in death rate from March until now would not support that

I really would be asking for a refund tbh you pay that much and have to wait several days for results no chance

FourTeaFallOut · 11/05/2020 17:44

Don't ask for a refund yet, I'm still waiting for your results!
