2nd thread discussing the lockdown in France and the impending deconfinement...

We have to have masks with elastic round the ears for the hairdresser. I love the idea of a Mondrian. The ones from the Mairie were delivered yesterday and I agree, the elastic would go round my ears twice. I have actually been moved to buy a new sewing machine. I have had my old one for forty years, it weighed a ton and had practically seized up. I now have a dinky little Singer via Amazon.

MadameF · 10/05/2020 13:29

DD is going to see her BF tonight too, they haven't seen each other at all during the confinement.
Judging by the empty shelves if alcohol and crisps in the supermarket yesterday I think a lot of people will be celebrating the end of deconfinement today.

AuldAlliance · 10/05/2020 13:50

I went to the butcher's today and he told me that last night he and 3 other friends & partners went to a mate's. One was a doctor: he took everyone's temperature, "et puis on s'est fait un méga gueuleton, jusqu'à 2h du mat"...

kersh33 · 10/05/2020 16:52

@missclimpson This is it. Can't wait for it to arrive! If I have to wear a mask I thought I might as well have a little fun with it.

It is fabulous. If I cut up a few of DH's t-shirts I could get the colours but the black joining strips would be a challenge. 😀

SheWranglesRugRats · 10/05/2020 18:49

Drat, just heard DS hasn't got a spot at school. I was quietly hopeful, but no.

ChateauMargaux · 10/05/2020 19:41

Love the Mondrian mask!! @missclipson you could use a sharpie to do the black lines.

My friend made an iron man and another superhero one for her boys out of tshirts they had grown out of, complete with a beautiful silk inner lining! Mine are more prosaic but the blue shirts I have used give them quite a clinical air.

Bonjour everyone! Just found this thread right at the end of lockdown 😁

I am in rural Brittany and we have until tomorrow midday to let college know if we are sending the kids back or not from 18th. I don’t know what to do tbh - DD2 is in 5ème and really, really doesn’t want to go. Apparently most of her friends are staying off and I am really torn. She is working well at home but I think it would do her good to see some people !

KatharinaRosalie · 11/05/2020 07:24

Nora if she is workig well at home and doesn't want to go, maybe she and some friends can get together to do their schoolwork?

Over here I have heard from several parents in DS's class that they will not send their children back. Honestly I'm keeping FX that enought of them won't and DS can go back full time. He is too young to work independently at home though and I am not a good home-schooler.

LongPauseNoReply · 11/05/2020 07:48

Welcome to déconfinement!! Wine

I have to go shopping this morning so whilst I'm out I'm going to see if the local fabric shop is open. If I can't find elastic I'm just going to reuse an old fitted sheet. I may just take a drive around just for the fun of it Grin

brittanyfairies · 11/05/2020 07:58

I'm back at work this morning and I'm not looking forward to it. I worked a little in the lockdown too and felt safe but not with the way things are set up.

I work in a creche and I'm just not happy with the measures my employers have put in place to protect me and the children. Their plan was based on good weather so 10 of the children would be outside all day including eating and sleeping, well we're at day 1 and it's blowing a gale and pissing down. We've really stayed at home in confinement but now I think I'm going to be bringing the virus home to my DCs and my vulnerable neighbours who I've been looking after.

@NoraLuka I'm in rural Brittany too in the Morbihan

mamansnet · 11/05/2020 08:03

Has anyone seen this rule that anyone travelling to the UK has to be quarantined for 2 weeks, unless coming from France?

Apparently Boris and Manu had a chat and set it all up. So British tourists can come to France without having to self-isolate on either journey, but nowhere else. So we can expect an influx of British tourists this summer, most likely.

Was hoping to see my family in the UK before DC2 arrives in August but don't think I'll be bothering as my parents are both 70 and DS is doing a half day at school tomorrow to see how workable things are (only 5 in his class going back so fingers crossed!)

mamansnet · 11/05/2020 08:06

Not even sure how I'd get there anyway - is anything running other than the Eurostar? I'd do a ferry or the Eurotunnel but no way a train or plane.

I won't be going anyway as I'd have to find somewhere to stay overnight to break the journey. No idea if hotels are open anywhere in the south of England?

SheWranglesRugRats · 11/05/2020 08:15

Thé Morbihan is basically virus-free isn’t it?

brittanyfairies · 11/05/2020 08:23

SheWrangles we were actually one of the first departments in France to have the virus, but actually they were really good at locking the clusters down at the end of February/beginning of March. So they made a good effort right at the start. Still, we've had over 600 deaths in the department and even recorded cases in my tiny commune (our boulanger of all people).

magimedi · 11/05/2020 08:30

@mamansnet

Eurotunnel is open still, Newhaven/Dieppe ferry still running & (apparently) hotels in UK will start to open at the end of May.

I am selfisly delighted by the lack of quarantine for French/UK travel as the prospect of seeing DC & grandchildren (who are in France) seems nearer but wonder about the sense of this relaxation.

SheWranglesRugRats · 11/05/2020 08:33

Ok fair enough

KatharinaRosalie · 11/05/2020 08:35

Mamasnet I didn't see the no quarantine news but that's certainly an interesting decision..

heylittlehenwhenwhenwhen · 11/05/2020 08:39

You can currently book return flights from France to UK (whether they get cancelled or not is another matter!)

Roseau18 · 11/05/2020 08:48

In his actual speech he said quarantine would only be for people coming by plane which was a bit strange anyway and made me wonder if he Europe would be excluded from the quarantine measures since (in normal times) you can come to the UK by ferry from France, Belgium, Holland and Spain. Then as people said above, France was then mentioned as an exception. I think they will have to extend it to the whole of the Schengen zone if internal borders reopen or it will be unworkeable.

There's still the problem of travelling over 100km in France which, would seem to make it impossible for most of us to get to the UK.

missclimpson · 11/05/2020 08:50

Well it will be very nice if DD and family can get to us this summer. We have a cottage in the garden so can do some measure of isolation. And they can bring Marmite, Brinjal and Piriton. 😊

KatharinaRosalie · 11/05/2020 08:50

I already have tickets to UK in July, but I wonder how they will treat that flight, as it's from Euroairport. If you're not familiar then the airport is tecnically in France, but has Swiss and French sides and access from both countries without any border controls, and my flights go from Swiss side.

NoraLuka · 11/05/2020 08:54

@brittanyfairies I’m in Morbihan too, in the Ploermel area, coucou !

I really think the virus is under control here in Brittany and has been for a while but a lot of DD2´s friends aren’t going back to college next week because their parents think it’s too dangerous. I feel guilty sending her back as I work from home and she could easily stay but I also worry that missing the social side of school isn’t good as she tends to be very shy anyway. I like the idea of letting her meet up with a few friends but not sure if the parents will agree and don’t want to be the first to suggest it 😁

What does everyone think of the beaches reopening? I hope they do and in theory a beach is no different to anywhere else - people can be sensible or silly but they’d be like that wherever they were!

Off to walk the dog without an attestation 😉

brittanyfairies · 11/05/2020 09:08

@NoraLuka me too! Malestroit, my DCs go to school at La Mennais. I've discussed with them and as they are both working well at home they won't be going back if school reopens. The logistics of the school bus, being stuck at their desks all day, no recreation it just sounds awful. Of course if they stop doing the work at home they have to go, it's a good motivation.
