@brittanyfairies non c’est pas vrai! St Julien in Malestroit ? My DDs are in 5ème and 4ème there. I read the 5 page document of consignes that they sent last week and it does look miserable, DD2 doesn’t like school anyway and I don’t know if going or not going will be best !

brittanyfairies · 11/05/2020 09:22

@NoraLuka yes, my DCs did St Jeanne d'Arc, St Julien and now La Mennais.

They both hated St Julien and I can't say I was over fond of it either.

It's a small world.

KatharinaRosalie · 11/05/2020 09:30

I also don't see why beaches would be more dangerous than parks or anywhere else really.

CroissantsAtDawn · 11/05/2020 10:11

Well DH has gone to work. Says roads were busier than during lockdown but not as busy as normal.

I'm stuck here trying to work and home school but fortunately our nounou is taking them out at 2pm...provided the weather is ok. If not I'll see if she's ok with coming into our flat to play with them and I'll hide away in the kitchen to work.

on a selfish point of view, that would be great news about UK - France no quarantine. My parents are supposed to be coming over in July but we've decided to cancel that bit as it's only 1 week. However the 3 weeks they are meant to be looking after the DC in the UK would be GREAT to keep if possible!

It is definitely busier here. I can hear far more traffic swishing up and down the wet road - and it's Monday, with lots of shops shut.

I am not making any plans for the summer: we were meant to be going to Italy, but that is off and I don't want to book something that will be cancelled in a month or two.
I think we will hunker down in the heat, try and do some one-day hikes in the Verdon area and plan an exceptional holiday for summer 2021.

I've pretty much resigned myself to the idea that I won't be seeing my parents and siblings in the UK for a very long time.

missclimpson · 11/05/2020 10:28

We are thinking of some 100km exploration jaunts. We have the landing beaches coast at about 60km and four national parks within the 100km although probably only one boucle de Seine. I hope we can see the family but am not really expecting it.

Watchagotcha · 11/05/2020 10:54

@CroissantsAtDawn

Re. your kids going to your parents... how does that work? We were meant to be going to stay with my parents for 3 weeks at the start of June, but it occurred to me that even if the flights are running and there is no official quarantine, aren't people still meant to be social distancing, especially from older people? My sister and her partner live near to my parents, and they've only been to see them at the end of the garden path! So how could we rock up and go straight to stay with them for 3 weeks - having been out at school / work etc and having passed through two airports en route to them etc.

I'm totally confused now. Are we no longer socially distancing from older people? My parents are 76 ish, so they are vulnerable, aren't they? What am I missing?

LongPauseNoReply · 11/05/2020 10:59

I'm so happy, the fabric place was opens and I got 20 meters of elastic and enough material for 5 or 6 masks each!

You're lucky @missclimpson ... I'm at least 450km away from a beach Sad

usuallydormant · 11/05/2020 11:00

I'm a bit confused about this supposed UK FR agreement... surely the rules haven't changed one tiny bit since last week when the FR govt confirmed that EU/Schengen/UK travellers didn't need to quarantine? It's just a non news story. My understanding is that in reality, no one can enter France without the international attestation until June 15, unless residents, frontaliers etc. We're s a long way from allowing tourists in. I'd be very surprised if any tourists are allowed in before July 23.

heylittlehenwhenwhenwhen · 11/05/2020 11:00

@missclimpson

I have been lightheartedly! pondering the possibility of a circumferential road trip Grin

Watchagotcha · 11/05/2020 11:01

Doh... Start of JULY, not June.

missclimpson · 11/05/2020 11:31

Love the circumferential road trip, though the top bit of ours would have to be by boat.
As we are over 70 we shall have to avoid human contact so I am pondering a shewee. 😂😂😂 DH can just do the French thing.

CroissantsAtDawn · 11/05/2020 11:32

Yeah I had to go back to work before finishing my post Grin

Form a selfish point of view we would love for the DC to be able to see my parents (both under 70). However we think that it's highly unlikely that will happen. It isn't planned til the 2nd half of July though.

From a country point of view, I'd rather we didn't have loads of British tourists turning up here.

We too have been looking at the 100km. Going to start small though, just somewhere we can walk to and take a picnic and enjoy being outside longer than an hour!!!

SheWranglesRugRats · 11/05/2020 11:38

Parks etc. still grows here but they have opened up the river towpath. I am so stoked to be able to go for a run.

SheWranglesRugRats · 11/05/2020 11:38

Closed not grows!

KatharinaRosalie · 11/05/2020 11:40

usually that part hasn't changed but UK is planning to quarantine everybody else, including EU, as I understand it.

LongPauseNoReply · 11/05/2020 11:52

So my understanding was that the centres commerciaux were not allowed open yet, only the food shops? The ones like Decalthon, Kiabi etc that are in the open air commercial parks are the only ones to be open.

I've been to my local shopping center to go food shopping in Migros and practically all of the shops are open including the hairdresser and some of the clothes shops. Granted the majority of people are wearing masks and they were stopping people going into Decathlon to make them use the hand sanitiser and check for masks. It doesn't seem clear what is allowed and what not!

NoraLuka · 11/05/2020 12:04

@brittanyfairies yes it is a small world ! There are quite a few British people around here, I think mostly retired people though.

I thought it was large centres commerciaux that can’t open because they draw people from a wide area? I understood smaller ones could open even if indoors. That said Atlantis in Nantes is supposed to be opening and I would class that as a large centre commercial! I think some shops like Ikea are staying shut a while longer.

CroissantsAtDawn · 11/05/2020 12:05

It depends on the size of the shopping centre. 400 000m2 I think from memory.

And I think they re all having to stay shut in Paris. the one next to me is anyway

Just the word quarantine is scary.
With the possibility of a vaccine in 2021 if we a lucky there will continue to be the threat of quarantine being imposed through much of 2020.
I find it scary that any plan to cross a border could be destroyed at a minutes notice with the introduction of quarantine measures.

Try getting your money back from an airline or hotel just because you have to go into quarantine.

NomadNoMore · 11/05/2020 13:10

So how did the temperature plummet from mid twenties all weekend to 7 today?

Just had my first trip in two months to Lidl 25 minutes away. Cleaned out the freezer yesterday so I could fill it with stuff I can't get at my nearest supermarket at the best of times.... also stocked up on things like Persil which are half the price there. I'm a bit late to the stockpiling party.

I'm in the middle of buying two small rental properties. Suddenly feeling uber cautious. Too late to pull out of one but may have no choice about the second as I have a newly unemployed DD who I will probably have to support. Hate messing people around but seem to have lost the ability to make decisions.

missclimpson · 11/05/2020 13:45

Obviously the low temperstures are because of the Saints de glace. We always scoff and plant out anyway, but Metéo France seems to be determined to prove a point. 😂

missclimpson · 11/05/2020 13:47

Accent fail...Méteo

missclimpson · 11/05/2020 13:49

FFS just put both efforts together and it might be right... 😱
