I’ve just ordered 2kg, yes 2kg of sweets from Amazon!

Usually I might grab a bag of sweets when I pop to the shops or fill the car up.
I’ve not eaten any sweets since mid March and so I’ve just ordered a mahoosive bulk bag of Chewy Sweets from Amazon.
What is wrong with me!
They are due to arrive on Friday, what’s the betting that they will be gone by Monday.......
We are a family of two.

Has anyone else ordered something that you would never ever ordinarily order?

I feel sick already and they’ve not arrived yet 😂

I think when I was pregnant with DC2 I ordered around 10kg of sweets, maybe more. Now I love sweets and gave it my best shot but was unable to finish them before my craving calmed down.

AgnesNaismith · 29/04/2020 07:08

I would worry about the ingredients, Amazon is equal to eBay in that you never actually know where they came from.

moveandmove · 29/04/2020 07:08

I don't get the sweetie thing. We never eat them in this house. When I've had them before it makes me feel disgusting all the sugary mouth feeling after a couple. Do you not get that?

Squashpocket · 29/04/2020 07:08

Have you had those amazon sweets before? To me they taste like little pieces of mildly fruit flavoured candle wax. Sorry OP. I hope you like them though.

orlarose · 29/04/2020 07:13

My were from amazon, they were tubs that were intended to be sold in corner shops, known brands.

Peppafrig · 29/04/2020 07:15

I've had those ones before they are just fruitella.

MmNashville · 29/04/2020 07:27

I went through a chocolate phase. Lindt bunnies were 15p in the Easter sale.

Figmentofmyimagination · 29/04/2020 07:30

Not for me, but yesterday I took delivery of 10 individually vacuum-packed ham bones for my canine companion. I let her put her head in the box and she was incredulous.

AgnesNaismith · 29/04/2020 07:30

@orlarose there are counterfeit games sold on there....it would be quite easy to fake a sweet wrapper

MaryShelley1818 · 29/04/2020 07:35

I got DH a 3kg pack of Haribo giant strawberries last week....they're nearly gone!
I got some Haribo little men. Addicted!!

MaryShelley1818 · 29/04/2020 07:36

I'm definitely not worried remotely...they are definitely Haribo.

Peppafrig · 29/04/2020 07:37

That article is two years old and I don't think people will sell counterfeit sweets. Or is that not what Aldi and Lidl have built their entire business model on.

Peppafrig · 29/04/2020 07:38

@moveandmove I get the same feeling in my teeth when I drink alcohol . Doesn't confuse me that other people do drink it though .

AgnesNaismith · 29/04/2020 07:39

I doubt Aldi and Lidl are buying from third party sources and they would have a multitude of requirements from a manufacturer...usually the same manufacturers who sell to other multinational supermarkets.

AgnesNaismith · 29/04/2020 07:42

And the Times article was last August. Just pointing it out as a concern rather than to be a party pooper!!

Honestly, some people are more careful about which type of petrol they put in their car. Just be careful where you’re buying the things you put into your body!!

MadameJosephine · 29/04/2020 07:43

Enjoy! I found this massive box of celebrations on amazon and sent one to my DS who is still in his student flat in London, should keep him going for awhile. I paid £20 but it’s only £16 at the moment with free delivery if you’ve got prime

As an older person whose frightened of needing a dentist during lockdown I've stuck to soft sweets, mainly a 1kg of little chocolate eggs on sale after Easter.
They are very sweet.

Herja · 29/04/2020 07:53

I can recommend my favourite sweatshop, which turns out to sell online. It's called Treasure Island sweets (can't do links, but its googleable).

It's been owned (or staffed anyway) by the same people since I was a child, who are endearingly grumpy but lovely. I take my children there now too. It has ALL the sweets... I particularly recommend the handmade fudge.

Herja · 29/04/2020 07:54

Sweetshop! Blush

Erictheavocado · 29/04/2020 08:01

@ShiftyOwl.
I normally get them in Costco, but managed to find them on Amazon. They come in a huge tub, like another old fashioned sweet jar, about 3-5 lb in weight. They are Costco own brand and are yummy. I have to limit myself to a small handful a couple of times a week or they'd be gone in a day or two. They are a bit more expensive on Amazon, but definitely worth it!

ShiftyOwl · 29/04/2020 09:01

Ooh loads of replies!
I’m sure I’ll like them, the look like those bags of chews you can get at the airport on the way home from hols, I’ve always liked those.

Fake? Maybe but who knows, I certainly won’t. It’s not as though they are a cheap version of a well known brand. Just because something is on Amazon it doesn’t mean that it’s fake?!

I fully intend to enjoy the whole lot, over as long a timeframe as possible!

It doesn’t mean they are but they absolutely could be and they could contain ANYTHING (rat poison anyone?). Sure though....play Russian roulette with your sweets if you like, so long as you don’t know...

Peppafrig · 29/04/2020 10:50

@AgnesNaismith it must be very tiring living thinking everyone is out to get you. Trouble is if they sell rat poisoning I don't think they will get many repeat orders .
