Realistically, how often do you go to the shops per week?

How often do you go to the shops, including if you pop in for milk one day etc

I mean if everyone in the family is healthy.

One big and 1 top up of fruit etc as dd is a ganet with fruit. And inevitably I forget soemthing in the big shop and certain items I just can't not have in the house as it causes an anxiety.. Sounds crazy but example. If I only had 1 bottle of washing up liquid or 1 tin beans in the cupboard I get riddled with an anxiety. Even if no plans to eat beans before the next big shop. I am. Working on it. But atm that's how it is. 1 big 1 small

RedRiverHog · 27/04/2020 19:36

I work in a supermarket but I shop once a week. Have once or twice picked up bread and milk after a shift in between my big shop.

worldweary45 · 27/04/2020 19:37

Once a week and if we run out of stuff in between then it's tough luck!

WobblyAllOver · 27/04/2020 19:41

Not been to the the supermarket as I have managed to get a weekly delivery. Had to do a click and collect today though but back to home deliveries for the next three weeks.

riotlady · 27/04/2020 19:50

2-3 times a week, one bigger one and one or two top up shops for fruit and milk

SpnBaby1967 · 27/04/2020 19:52

A big shop every 10 days or so, smaller top up shops every 2-3 days.

Sgtmajormummy · 27/04/2020 19:52

Once a week. Supermarket deliveries haven’t taken off in Italy.
We usually run out of fruit after about day 5 but I buy UHT milk (always have) and use my chest freezer as well as tinned and dried food.

It can be done with a bit of forward planning. Our list is written two days in advance and if you haven’t written it you wait for another week.

The only problem is that I also buy a week’s worth of treats. If I don’t squirrel them away they get scoffed immediately!

Legoandloldolls · 27/04/2020 19:56

Less than once a week now. I freeze everything, milk, bread, cheese.

I have four kids and I have changed my shopping habits since lockdown. I dont feel safe going out any more and I'm scared of being judged. Our local FB community group was very aggressively angry about people buying more than one slice of bread and a tea bag.

I dont need the stress on top of a pandemic. Were eating a lot less fruit and veg that's for sure

userxx · 27/04/2020 19:57

Every 7 - 10 days.

AgeLikeWine · 27/04/2020 19:58

On average, twice a fortnight. DP & I take it in turns to do a main weekly shop, and one of us will usually do a top-up shop once a week.

I actually quite like supermarkets. Pre-covid, I would usually visit a different one almost every day. I used to enjoy cherry-picking special offers.

crimsonlake · 27/04/2020 19:58

Once a week, just the 2 of us.

hiredandsqueak · 27/04/2020 20:03

I haven't been to a shop since before lockdown but I've been lucky enough to get a weekly delivery. Outside of lockdown I have my groceries delivered and very rarely needed to go to a shop then either. I'm single parent carer to dc with disabilities, going to the shop is a palaver so have always had a good stock of food in and just adapt what I have if there are missing items.

monkeytennis97 · 27/04/2020 20:05

Haven't been since late February.

TheLette · 27/04/2020 20:13

Once a week, although we could last 10 days I think. Logistically it makes sense for us to go once a week - it seems to take nearly 2 hours to do the shop, and as we are both working / doing childcare during the week, this means we can only shop at the weekend. One of us goes, whilst the other stays at home with the child.

Our neighbours shop every day, sometimes twice a day. I know this as we have a group WhatsApp where we offer to get bits of shopping for each other - I set it up thinking that we'd all only be going once a week rather than the usual number of times per week we go, so the idea was to help each other out with top ups to enable that. We all go to the shops quite frequently normally, because we live very close to 4 supermarkets plus other food shops. There are 2 of them, I'd say early 50s. Nice, intelligent, apparently reasonable people. Apart from their total ignorance of the guidance!

birdwatching · 27/04/2020 20:15

big shop every 8-9 days. No top up shopping in between (2 adults + 2 DC).

we really try to stretch it as much as we can but we have a car. Without, we would have to make a few trips every week.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 27/04/2020 20:19

Haven’t been since early March!

Smithy01 · 27/04/2020 20:20

@WombatChocolate
You shouldn’t judge others until you are standing in their shoes?
I’m sure most people on here are trying their best.
I shop two-three times a week, with 4 adults plus my elderly parents who are in the high risk group living half hour drive from us. You try getting enough food for a week on your own in a trolley for 6 adults.
Plus with a medium sized fridge freezer I do not have the capacity to keep a weeks food for 4 adults, even if I could get everything in one shop.

Smithy01 · 27/04/2020 20:21

Just to add, there is absolutely no chance of a delivery slot or click and collect in our area, their like gold dust

Blibbyblobby · 27/04/2020 20:22

Every week/10 days, with a possible milk run between. That's for two adults. I wobble home on the bike with it in two panniers and a front bag.

Pre covid-10 we used to get deliveries but no chance these days.

MondeoFan · 27/04/2020 20:23

Once a week to supermarket usually on a Friday. I buy enough stuff to last the week, 2 loaves, 8 pints of milk etc.
Why risk yourself in going more?

Bubbinsmakesthree · 27/04/2020 20:32

Somehow we’ve managed to get a supermarket delivery every 10 days or so and there are loads of enterprising businesses that have set up locally doing deliveries of basics (fruit, veg, milk, bread) so haven’t needed to go near a shop since pre-lockdown.

walkingchuckydoll · 27/04/2020 20:37

Click and collect once a week. That's it. I'm vulnerable so we are extra careful.

LindainLockdown · 27/04/2020 20:41

Twice a week, sometimes only once but my partner also goes out about the same so as a household up to 4 times a week.

VioletCharlotte · 27/04/2020 20:45

Once a week for a big shop and usually once a week for a top up.

Theukisgreatt · 27/04/2020 20:48

Normally one big shop and a couple of 'I should get fresh' or forgotten ingredients, then a treat shop on Friday. Now one and it's making the realise I really don't need the other ones.
