Realistically, how often do you go to the shops per week?

How often do you go to the shops, including if you pop in for milk one day etc

I mean if everyone in the family is healthy.

Oh yes ninkanink I see that now, I must have paged down twice by accident.

ScarfLadysBag · 27/04/2020 15:47

We haven't physically been to the shop since lockdown. We just have our weekly online delivery and milkman. Same as before!

Mama1980 · 27/04/2020 16:46

Never but delivery once a week. (Shielded)

Frangipanini · 27/04/2020 16:50

I go out once a week but I end up going to about 4 different shops. I have popped out a couple of times to pick up more booze during the past 5 weeks so I'd say I've been out 7 times in 5 weeks.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 27/04/2020 16:51

It’s about twice a week on average. 4 of us. One main supermarket shop plus a top up shop for anything we run out of - bread, milk, pet food, toiletries etc.
Sometimes have to go to a second shop if items are out of stock, but I count it as a single shopping trip.
The top up shop is on foot so I count it as exercise not shopping!

VenusOfWillendorf · 27/04/2020 16:52

Usually, I go once a week. Apart from the disastrous day when I went half an hour before closing thinking it would be quieter, only to find there were was no veg and almost no fruit left, just empty green crates.
As 3/4 of my list was fruit and veg, I had to go in the next morning as well. I did make the most of my trip and stocked up on bottles of wine, beer, gin and mixers, which I've not needed to re-stock on since!
I don't have a car, but do have a wheelie trolley which has become my new best friend (previously was only used for wine runs, when there was a sale on).
It's a big change for me - I never used to do a big shop at all - just got what I needed on the way home from work as I was passing. As I also ate most meals either at work, or out at the weekend, all the cooking is also a big change!

Once every 6-8 days. I've a delivery coming in a week and a half though and trying to not shop again until then.

MorrisZapp · 27/04/2020 16:53

Every day

SciFiScream · 27/04/2020 16:58

Once per 7-10 days. We get milk delivered twice a week. Eggs on one of those deliveries.

Our neighbourhood has a WhatsApp group running and we all offer to get things for our neighbours. It means we minimise the trips to shops. We drop off at the door step. Let the neighbour know the goods are there then back away.

Everyone pays each other by bank transfer. We do for all trips. To pharmacy, pet shops, etc.

I think this has saved my family group about 10 trips and I know we've saved other people an equivalent amount.

Pre-corona I would go from twice a week up to every other day.

I pass several supermarkets a day on a regular journey so it is very easy to pop in for a few bits. Especially as I pass at a quiet time.

We don't have much freezer space (or any storage for that matter) and I find that fresh stuff doesn't last a full week.

Post corona, I had a small emergency stash, plus had a couple of click and collect slots so I was able to avoid the shops entirely for about 3 weeks.

I then had to go back to the shops as click and collect slots weren't available. The first couple of times I did a big shop and tried to last a full week but now the shops are open normal hours if I go in at my normal time it is very quiet so I am more relaxed. I'm probably going about every 4 days depending upon how long the bread and milk lasts.

fussychica · 27/04/2020 17:28

We go once a week.
DH does our vulnerable neighbours and I do ours. As we are in our 60s we want to go as little as possible.
We used to walk and shop several times a week but now have to take the car as we can't manage the bigger shop on foot. Go to Morrisons and Waitrose, both in our town so no unnecessary journey.

fussychica · 27/04/2020 17:30

Meant to say, not a hope in hell of getting an online delivery, unfortunately.

ladypete · 27/04/2020 18:18

Once a week.
We have also nipped to the local corner shop (1 min walk away) twice on top of this during lockdown.

Poetryinaction · 27/04/2020 18:22

Once. We are a family of 5. We get a takeaway delivered once a week too.

CrystalAlligator · 27/04/2020 18:23

I go once per week on a Monday. The only solid plans in my diary currently are supermarket on a Monday, clean the house top to bottom on a Tuesday.

I genuinely look forward to Mondays because of it. That’s how small and pathetic my life is now.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/04/2020 18:24

Once but I am lucky enough to have the funds, storage space and transport to enable me to do that.

TheGreatWave · 27/04/2020 18:49

do have a wheelie trolley which has become my new best friend

I've rediscovered the love for mine too, much easier to get all the milk I buy. It is a cow print, dd1 hates it, good job she can't come shopping with me.

DdraigGoch · 27/04/2020 19:02

I cycle to and from work so am limited to what I can squeeze into my work bag with all of my kit. Usually my work kit would stay in a locker but we are having to take it home for the duration. I have almost no freezer space and limited fridge space.

I generally make four shopping trips a week on my way to/from work. These include supermarket runs, the butcher, and the baker. It would be irresponsible for someone young and fit like me to take up delivery slots which could be used by the vulnerable. Many places have minimum orders too so as I live alone I don't really purchase enough to be eligible for delivery.

twinnywinny14 · 27/04/2020 19:08

Once a week, the same as I always have done. I couldn’t honk of anything worse than going 4 times a week like some on here, especially at the moment! X

TabbyMumz · 27/04/2020 19:16

Two to three times a week.

FraterculaArctica · 27/04/2020 19:17

Family of 5 including one baby. Haven't been to the supermarket since a week before lockdown. Have got click and collect or a delivery about once every 8 days, and gone to farm shop for fruit and veg boxes about 3 times in total on top of that.

poilymo · 27/04/2020 19:20

I go once a week. If I can't get something we go without it. The rest of the household hasn't been to a shop since this began. Popping to the shop for top ups is ludicrous and will mean lock down will need to last longer

PlugUgly1980 · 27/04/2020 19:23

We've not been to a shop since lockdown. Lucky enough to have an Asda delivery pass with a recurring weekly slot so we've had a delivery every week. Usually we'd top on milk during the week, but I've been buying 6 pinters rather than 4 and they've been fine with us all at home, then making do with what they bring. A few missing things and random substitutes but nothing worth going out and buying.

Northernsoullover · 27/04/2020 19:31

I go twice a week. I was aiming for once but we have bread issues (no room in the freezer). If you have room in your fridge I can recommend you buy the filtered milk. It keeps for ages! Tastes the same as normal milk.
Interestingly, I have been chatting to my local supermarket staff and none of them have been unwell. It doesn't make me take less precautions but it does relax my mind.

lljkk · 27/04/2020 19:35

DH probably goes to supermarket 2x/week. I don't go.
