Realistically, how often do you go to the shops per week?

How often do you go to the shops, including if you pop in for milk one day etc

I mean if everyone in the family is healthy.

Twice a week. Friday and Tuesday normally. There are thing we need to go to particular supermarkets for so we go on different days. You cant always get what you want from 1 shop either so each trip may involve a couple of shops.

It's less than what I'm used to - used to be in a shop most days after dropping kids at school.

MaryBerrysBomberJacket · 27/04/2020 11:26

Once, 2 adults 2 teens. I go middle of week, sister goes end of week so we can drop milk etc off to each other if needed.

Pastaforall · 27/04/2020 11:26

Once. If they don’t have what we want then we buy something else instead.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/04/2020 11:27

3 days a week usually.

Twice to do a proper shop at the main supermarket - necessary as I don't have a car so I can only carry so much.

Then I pop to the local shop to get milk or any other bits that run out. It's right next door to me so often I don't run into anyone and use the self service.

AteAllTheAfterEights · 27/04/2020 11:28

Right now? We haven’t been to a shop in 5 weeks except the chemist once to collect a prescription.

Luckily we had supermarket deliver slots booked in advance, so we have had one per week plus usual fruit & veg box and frozen meat box once a month.

bluechameleon · 27/04/2020 11:29

So far we've managed on once a week to the supermarket, but we get milk, bread, yogurts and cheese from the milkman and a fruit and veg box. But this week I won't be able to last because I forgot to buy cooking oil so one of us will have to go to the corner shop.

IHaveAMagicBean · 27/04/2020 11:31

Once a week for us, but we do get a fresh veggies box from Riverford too.

I hope @FreckledLeopard is talking pre lockdown and not going shopping that often now.

Silentplikebath · 27/04/2020 11:33

Never. I’ve shopped online for the last 12 years due to health issues. I pay for a delivery pass so have mostly continued to get my shopping weekly or fortnightly. It was slightly tricky when the panic buying happened. but I used a local deli, my milkman and a frozen food company to get shopping.

I don’t intend to visit any shops until I have been vaccinated. I am so grateful that there are many delivery drivers out there who are prepared to help people like me.

IllegalFred · 27/04/2020 11:34

Every 8-9 days. In normal times I'd go once a week but buy less and pick up other bits after work once or twice a week.

Inconnu · 27/04/2020 11:34

One big supermarket shop (click and collect if we can get a slot) every 8 days plus one top up shop at the local shop. We are 2 adults and 3 children.

sindylouwho · 27/04/2020 11:34

Once a week. I've had deliveries for over five weeks now. But will need to go out this week. I've always done a weekly shop. My neighbours need to go out everyday to shop apparently.

amazedmummy · 27/04/2020 11:35

Once a week/10 days. We get milk delivered every week.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 27/04/2020 11:35

Once every 2-3 weeks. We get a lot of deliveries though from local businesses - local veg box, cheese from the cheese shop, bread from the baker etc so we don't need to actually go to the shops v often.

Ninkanink · 27/04/2020 11:36

We haven’t been to the shops for food at all since 19/3.

I’ve been to the pharmacy twice to pick up meds for my daughter, once through a hatch as the shop itself was closed and a few days ago, back in the shop as it had re opened.

We’ll probably start going to the shops every two weeks or so now, as it’s really difficult to get a delivery slot.

WombatChocolate · 27/04/2020 11:36

We have managed to get a delivery every 10 days ish and have not been to the shops at all. By careful planning and buying we can make it do for 10 days.

I thought the idea was to go out as rarely as possible and to shop as infrequently as possible, so avoiding lots of little top-up trips? Am I wrong about this?

I can see lots of people wouldn't manage for 10 days, but can't most people cope for a week between shops if they plan really carefully? I should think the shops are still where people are likely to get it, so the fewer times you can go, the better for everyone.

longtermillness · 27/04/2020 11:37

Once a week .

Haven’t been out since 13th March to anywhere other than walks around local neighbourhood .

Managing to get a Tesco online delivery roughly every 7-10 days, not sure how long that will continue but all fingers crossed . Have used Iceland twice for stuff we’ve run out of as they can generally offer next day delivery .. Getting toiletries in the main from Boots online delivery and Amazon for bigger bottles of shampoo etc .

Biggest problem is getting stuff like sanitary pads - everywhere has been sold out - paracetomal, or if you fancy eg a bar of chocolate on a Saturday night ... needed painkillers desperately over the weekend for period pain but none at all in Tesco order, Iceland, and can’t access any pharmacies at all . Not pleasant !

Tinypaws2 · 27/04/2020 11:38

I go twice a week. Once for a big shop then another to top up the fresh stuff like veg, milk and bread.

RingtheBells · 27/04/2020 11:39

My top up trips are part of my exercise walk so I go out once in a day and pick up a bag of fresh food on my walk

merryhouse · 27/04/2020 11:40

Twice a week. I'd cut it to once if we had more room for milk.

Artinsurance · 27/04/2020 11:40

I've managed once a fortnight for 2 adults. Milk running out is our determining factor and we appear to go through a lot more than I could have ever imagined. Thankfully, we have an extra freezer in the garage and I've been able to freeze a couple of cartons - defrosting a 6 pint carton takes significantly longer than you would think though.

Ninkanink · 27/04/2020 11:43

Yes it’s only the two of us so that does make it easier (plus in the Firth’s couple of weeks we did some tandem shopping with my daughters until they managed to get their own delivery slots). We shopped for 4 weeks worth in our grocery delivery a week ago, so hopefully we won’t need to go out at all for at least another two weeks, hopefully three, except maybe once to get some milk and bread.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/04/2020 11:43

Average once a week, but the day varies due to DH day off varying, so it could be five day or 10 days between trips.

cathyandclare · 27/04/2020 11:44

Big shop every 7-10 days. No top-up needed this week but in previous weeks have needed 1 top up for fresh salad, milk and BBQ charcoal!

WombatChocolate · 27/04/2020 11:44

Aren't we meant to go into shops as infrequently as possible - ie not every day as part of our daily exercise. Even with social distancing, being in shops is likely to be where people catch it and then bring it home. I understand it's not possible to avoid altogether, but really most people could organise themselves to not need to go 3 or 4 times a week.

LemonTT · 27/04/2020 11:44

None at the moment. Using delivery services and just making do.I get ours from Ocado as a pass holder and for my 90+ father use Tesco. He is now on their vulnerable list.
