Realistically, how often do you go to the shops per week?

How often do you go to the shops, including if you pop in for milk one day etc

I mean if everyone in the family is healthy.

Once a week for a big shop and then once to the local Tesco Metro for milk and bread.

MeadowHay · 27/04/2020 14:49

I have to go frequently as Im one woman with a chronic back injury who doesn't drive. I have to walk to the shop and carry my shopping home. What else am I meant to do? I would love to go less, it's not like I enjoy queuing outside the supermarket or getting pain from carrying my shopping home.

inwood · 27/04/2020 14:49

Delivery once a week. Pop to local shop occasionally when we've run out of something or the milk has gone off which happened today, no more than once a week each so far.

IllegalFred · 27/04/2020 14:50

We were doing more shops initially because the shops were so empty. Now stock levels have increased again we can get most things without having to go out a second time in a week

CaryStoppins · 27/04/2020 14:52

DP goes once a week to do a big shop
Milk is delivered 3 times a week
Fruit & veg box delivered once a week

ErrolTheDragon · 27/04/2020 14:52

We've not been to the shops since before the lockdown started. We'd stocked up pretty well before that (starting in January) and then we found local veg box, milkman and the farm shop/butchery nearby delivering. Various other things have been bought online.

The only things I'm really missing are yoghurt and the local plant nursery.

Saz42 · 27/04/2020 14:53

There are 2 adults, and my dh goes to Sainsburys once a fortnight. We freeze what we can, including milk. (You need to open the bottle and use a bit because it expands when it freezes). We plan all our dinners in advance and even have a chart noting the expiry dates.

MeadowHay · 27/04/2020 14:53

Also someone said they were curious to know if people going shopping frequently are going more now than 3-4 weeks ago. No, I'm going exactly the same. As I need exactly the same amount of food as then. I'm going more than pre-covid simply because I can't get delivery slots anymore and used to get big deliveries of non perishables every few weeks or so.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/04/2020 14:54

A couple of times a week to either the M&S foodhall, or the Tesco Express - we don't have a car and always had a fortnightly Sainsbury's delivery before this. However we did manage to get a Tesco delivery on Saturday, and we have a veg box coming via a local organic cafe that's re-purposed itself tomorrow, so hopefully this week will be less.

I always go as part of my "exercise", so only one trip out of the house - if DP goes, I will still go for a walk too though.

DCIRozHuntley · 27/04/2020 14:54

I've been to Aldi 3 times since 18th March. We've also had 3 veg box deliveries, 2 meat deliveries and 1 Tesco delivery. I haven't been to any other shops, post office etc at all.

Destinysdaughter · 27/04/2020 14:56

Once a week. Walk to local small Asda with my shopping trolley. Went today at 1.30 and there were only 2 pp in the queue in front of me. Can't get any Tesco delivery slots and don't have a car so that's all I can do for now.

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 27/04/2020 14:57

Once. I get a six pint carton of milk and it lasts the week alongside a carton of soya milk.

ifonly4 · 27/04/2020 14:58

I've really tried keeping it to once a week, but in reality it's twice. We have a small fridge and haven't got the capacity to store enough for a week! My DD works for a wellknown smaller supermarket and says you get some people come in every day though.

RuthW · 27/04/2020 15:01

Once a week on a Saturday.

fitflopqueen · 27/04/2020 15:02

1 x week for us (3 adults), have milk and eggs delivered, make own bread. Also shop for my parents, try and combine both same day doing Aldi & Morrisons shop (as mother has to have some branded products!)

bumblingbovine49 · 27/04/2020 15:04

I haven't been inside a food shop for 6 weeks

bumblingbovine49 · 27/04/2020 15:05

Nor has anyone else in our household of 3

Thelaughinggnome123 · 27/04/2020 15:22

Once, to be honest unless you don't have a car or another good reason to not do a big shop, I think that's what we all should be doing.

UnderTheIroningBoard · 27/04/2020 15:33

About twice a week. I don't drive and have to carry everything back, or I would go once.

BenjiB · 27/04/2020 15:34

Twice, sometimes 3. We’ve only had one big shop delivered.

TerrapinStation · 27/04/2020 15:36

Once a week. Why do you ask?

Ninkanink · 27/04/2020 15:37

OP has explained why she asked.

ssd · 27/04/2020 15:39

What's a click and collect shop?

OP posts:
QuimJongUn · 27/04/2020 15:43

@VitreousHumour yes, it is lockdown. But for some four times a week is the minimum amount of trips that's feasible. Good for you if you can manage to go less often - many cannot.

Makegoodchoices · 27/04/2020 15:44

Once a fortnight, although mostly deliveries. Shopping for two households, sometimes three if my neighbour wants things.
