Watching today's update and the cars usage graph shows that people are starting to drive for non-essential journeys again.

WHY?

Why can't people just stay at home?! Stop driving around! I see people shopping twice a week or more, regularly. WHY?!

OP posts:
Mrhodgeymaheg · 26/04/2020 16:39

The law does not state people can't drive. People are still working and have relatives to look after. I would normal visit one shop for my weekly shop, but since this has happened, having to visit lots of different shops to get all I need has become commonplace. There is also the fact that my kids aren't fed at school and we are all home, so use things like bread and milk up often, which needs replenishing. We don't have room to bulk buy.

There is a world outside of yours and what you deem to be essential. The government have also stated you can drive for exercise if it is a short journey, so a half hour drive to a desserted forest for a two hour walk is fine in England and probably more preferrable to going somewhere more crowded. Why would they say that if it is wrong to do it?

You sound like someone who would wear a mask in your own home if you lived alone.

If there us one thing I have learnt about MN, it's that people find it hard to accept a balanced pespective on this. It is either a fuck it I'll do what I like mentality, or a hysterical siege one where people would throw bricks at people who didn't drink zoflora everytime they did their shopping. I just wish the latter would realise they are as stupid as the former.

Unworthie · 26/04/2020 16:44

Sick of judgemental people who sit back and do absolutely nothing but have plenty to say about others

Yes exactly, some of us don't virtue signal all over social media what we're trying to do to help. That said there's a few on my road who've had help from the group I'm volunteering with. Yesterday a post went up to and I was in one of the pics, be interesting to see if the glaring and anonymous brave notes stop now........

Kasabian23 · 26/04/2020 16:54

I've shared a few pictures to my neighbourhood watch page of people in my village who have been flouting the rules. Just this morning I caught a man walking past my house on 3 separate occasions and he wasn't exactly young. Does these people have a death wish or something? Se are supposed to be staying in for our own good.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/04/2020 16:56

I can’t tell if you’re kidding Kasabian23!

SpillTheTeaa · 26/04/2020 16:58

Kasabian23 are you kidding? Stop being such a curtain twitcher you don't know why he had to go out that many times!

HeIenaDove · 26/04/2020 17:02

OP i have to go out twice a week to shop for food I have no car

And i have to get electric for our key meter.

Check your privilege

madmumofteens · 26/04/2020 17:02

And here we have another example Kasabian23 🙄

Kasabian23 · 26/04/2020 17:03

@SpillTheTeaa there is absolutely no reason to be out that many times at all. You are allowed to exercise once a day for an hour and that is it. Older people shouldn't even be outside at all.

I get that nobody enjoys being inside all the time but I have to do it so everyone else should too. I will report who ever I have to because this needs to be taken more seriously than it is being.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/04/2020 17:05

I hope you're joking @Kasabian23.

I'm wondering if the coronavirus stasi have realised they will have to carry on living with their neighbours after this. If I found I lived next to a nosy sod like that there would be no good neighbourly relations. Screw them if they needed anything!

okiedokieme · 26/04/2020 17:05

Not everyone has a fridge big enough for a weeks shopping, many people shop on foot, salad wilts quickly. I try to limit to twice a week, but that's hard, sometimes I do a short third grab of food. Remember you are fortunate to have a car, a freezer, cupboards big enough to store a weeks worth of food

MarginalGain · 26/04/2020 17:06

Good grief Kasbian you're serious?

MarginalGain · 26/04/2020 17:06

You put pictures of neighbours on your neighbourhood watch page?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/04/2020 17:08

Christ, she is serious! If someone did that to me I'd be deliberately walking backwards and forwards outside their house!

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 26/04/2020 17:09

Sits on hands.

Don't bite.. don't bite.. don't bite.

Oh screw it! Some posters on here give me no incentive to keep them safe. If anything, I'd probably cough on them with my last breath.Hmm

HeIenaDove · 26/04/2020 17:10

Isnt it a coincidence that this thread was started the day after there was a big gathering on Westminster Bridge for the second Thursday night in a row? And the media practically ignored it again.

And people like the OP clutch their pearls about others going on two shopping trips a week. Now i wonder why all the frothing is about the latter and not the former.

Kasabian23 · 26/04/2020 17:11

@MarginalGain if I have to yeah. I don't like doing it but I have a Mother with diabetes and heart issues, there is no way I am letting irresponsible scrotes on the street get away with flouting the rules and possibly infecting her.

MarginalGain · 26/04/2020 17:12

Why do you think you have the right to invade someone's privacy like that? Isn't it illegal to post pictures of someone online without their permission?

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/04/2020 17:13

I don't like doing it

Of course you do.

MarginalGain · 26/04/2020 17:13

How are they going to infect your mother by walking by your house?

Xenia · 26/04/2020 17:15

Kasabian - he may have to move his elderly mother who has bed sores 4 times a day and change her incontinence nappies for a start or like I am he may have to take urgent work to the post office or post box which cannot all be saved up or comes in urgently. I cannot predict when work will require me to go out.

My son goes out to get medicines for people locally and takes it to their houses. He would do that however many times it takes to save those who might otherwise die and I hope no one would report him on social media for that!

backaftera2yearbreak · 26/04/2020 17:16

In Edinburgh people were walking around a dead body the other day and nobody bothered their arse to contact the emergency services. I’m sure the people who walked passed are these boring bargain basement curtain twitching stasi happy to grass on their neighbours. Nobody knows what people are doing outside Or in their car unless you fucking ask them. Honestly. Kasabisn23 you should be ashamed of yourself. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/man-52-dies-hospital-after-falling-unwell-edinburgh-street-where-people-stepped-over-and-walked-round-his-body-2543569%3famp

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/04/2020 17:17

I hope the pictures are removed. Any of the local groups I'm in wouldn't allow them.

When the flight ban is lifted @Kasabian23 perhaps you should book a flight to China or North Korea as they sound more your sort of place.

In the meantime I suggest you take up a hobby that doesn't involve spying on your neighbours

Frompcat · 26/04/2020 17:17

You are allowed to exercise once a day for an hour and that is it.

Um no, there is no limit on the amount of time you are allowed to exercise for. Get your facts straight.

backaftera2yearbreak · 26/04/2020 17:18

And i also wish people would not take photos of others. Imagine if they had fled domestic violence or had to ensure people did not know where they lived. Did you ever think about that

BirdieFriendReturns · 26/04/2020 17:23

I’m going to drive to Waitrose tomorrow for a big shop, rather than Sainsbury’s. It’s an extra 10 minutes in the car so I’m fully expecting someone on here to come on and shout at me. Still going to go though!
