Watching today's update and the cars usage graph shows that people are starting to drive for non-essential journeys again.

WHY?

Why can't people just stay at home?! Stop driving around! I see people shopping twice a week or more, regularly. WHY?!

I am not saying that there hasn’t been ridiculous statements like that

And many just want things to return to a normality that can be managed and that unfortunately means many restrictions will still be in place

It’s foolish to ignore or claim it is not the case that people have become more relaxed, are taking more chances because it hasn’t impacted them directly and will apply the guidelines to suit themselves more as time goes on. That’s how humans behave particularly in societies where we do have more freedoms we simply are not used to being controlled in such a way

I agree with you that its human nature.

In the same manner, I bet alot of those people calling others "selfish" never lifted a finger to help other people they didnt know with illnesses prior to covid because it didnt affect them then. Pandemics happen all the time across the world and noone seemed to give a shit about them. Now, suddenly, its affecting us in the west and everyone is on a moral soapbox calling for everyone to be kind and less selfish.
Where was that kindness and selflessness prior to Covid? The hypocrisy just really really annoys me.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/04/2020 12:17

Topseyt many areas of the NHS have had to work around dealing with COVID

But the media is ignoring as it’s not quite so interesting that many areas have adapted to working around covid. It doesn’t make interesting reading

It’s a huge concern that many people are not getting treatment because it’s been put on hold or are avoiding seeking medical attention

This is so true. I'm just nodding my head at all your posts today.

Lockdown is easing de facto with deciding for themselves like adults rather than needing an 'excuse'
They you overstated the NHS capacity fears and people can see that the risk of being
Hospitalised is minimal and of dying infinitesimal unless in a category of people with imminent mortality anyway and deficient in Vitamin D.
The bogeyman.of 'they'll toughen up lockdown ' won't fly -it would be totally illogical and ineffective to impose harsher conditions on healthy working people who are perfectly responsibly making their own decisions about their activities even if not sticking to the North Korean 'rules'

I have noticed more cars on the road, I think people are beginning to get more lax about following the rules now, I think that reality and boredom is sinking in after 5 weeks. But people's perception of the rules are very different, I can't believe the poster on a previous thread saying it's ok to picnic. Clearly it isn't otherwise the police wouldn't be moving people of it it.

I have used the car 4 times this week so far, 3 times I have been driving to a local place (5 min) to exercise for an hour. I went to the post office on the way home so that was included in one journey. I have done one car journey to the food bank to donate.

DH has been out in the car twice, once to pick up a click and collect shop and once to a bike shop to look into buying bikes. I think this is acceptable and 3 car journeys a week served to be our average most weeks.

QuixoticQuokka · 25/04/2020 15:32

This thread certainly highlights how people don't prep, and how little resilience they have. I hope there isn't a second peak and another, stricter lockdown. I prep a bit, but I'll go out and buy fresh food when it's available and to top up staples I use all the time like rice, lentils, oats, tinned tomatoes and beans. I could stay in for a month but I'm not going to if I don't have to.

I imagine your hairspray acts a bit like a force field as well, no need for masks in the Colby Mansion

SpnBaby1967 · 25/04/2020 19:37

We shop multiple times a week as we are a large family and our supermarket wont let you have a large trolley. One small trolley packed full lasts us maybe 3 days, plus the restrictions mean things like milk and pet food and bread are needed every couple of days.

Plsnomorepeppapig · 25/04/2020 19:51

I shop as many times as I choose. I shop for my house hold once a week and my parents and in-laws once a week. Wouldn’t be able to manage it all in one go. My mum is on immunosuppressants and my father in law has terminal lung cancer and has months to live. Despite this, they haven’t been able to secure regular shopping slots.
Is that ok with you OP? I hope my reasons are justified - not that it’s any of your damn business. Keep your beak out.
