Just steered my pushchair in a too narrow stretch of pavement on the outside of a fenced off area down Kensington high street because no one, after waiting, was willing to wait to let me get through. I could have pushed through but then would have been very close to other people.
Surprised. Hadn't been out for a few days other than garden/ postbox. Strong smell of weed part of the way. Holland Park full of people having picnics, and children playing hopscotch on a chalked up board.
Go on a bit further and a man is threatening to punch another man. A group of five teenage girls is wandering along in a posse, two holding hands. Multiple people throat clearing etc right by me. No one trying to keep 2m apart. Then get to M&S where I'd been going to do my food shopping and notice part of the shop is open too. So just think fuck it, hurrah! My son hasn't been able to get his old shoes on for a week (hence pushchair), and the ones I bought online were too narrow. Buy shoes gratefully.
No police in sight other than three cars in a convoy going about 70 mph with sirens on. Outside my local, where tables have been left out, a group of 20 somethings are drinking beer and wine from their own glasses.
I think at this point in central London the lockdown is over, transmission is happening because people are hanging out on the streets (more crowded than before because pubs and shops etc are closed, I suppose), and without harsh policing it's hard to see what to do. The policing was aggressive a few weeks ago. Has there been an executive decision (and by whom?) to ease up?
