Stop going out!

Watching today's update and the cars usage graph shows that people are starting to drive for non-essential journeys again.

WHY?

Why can't people just stay at home?! Stop driving around! I see people shopping twice a week or more, regularly. WHY?!

OP posts:

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter

Madcat appears to want people to STAY AT HOME so her commute to work is reduced. If we go out we are all selfish morons.

Fuck's sake.

Yeah, I'm just baffled by the amount of posts criticising others for doing things that the OP couldn't possible know about unless they too were also out! So its ok for them to be out but noone else?
LOL

Mumlove5

I hope you have the correct documentation giving the reasons for this deliberate attempt at sabotage and will perform the required act of dousing yourself in bleach for 72 hours upon your return. Anything less is not acceptable. Grin

Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 11:05

All these extra people on the roads are making my life difficult and they are stupid ignorant bastards who are going to cause the stats to go right up again with their selfishness.

Not sure if people are dim, can't be arsed reading or just don't bother reading.

This week and for the next few weeks, more people are going back to work. There is not a chance the road is full of pensioners and families.

Lots of people are doing exactly what you are doing, going to work.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/04/2020 11:06

If you have been working since lockdown and travel to work by car or drive to do community work of course you are going to notice that the traffic has increased

So the questions are why has it increased

Supermarkets are better stocked than they were so that rules them out (mostly)

We only need to look on here the amount of people that use the term using you common sense to justify their actions.

People are fed up they look at the news and think well numbers are dropping we are safer now and apply that evidence to suit their choices

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2020 11:11

@EnthusiasmIsDead it is increasing because more people are going back to work as has been stated many times.

When lockdown was announced, a lot of businesses panicked and closed when they didn't necessarily need to. Now a lot of them are seeing that it isn't financially viable to stay closed for a long time and have realised they can reopen with social distancing measures in place.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2020 11:12

Sorry, username type!

I'm a key worker so do drive to work. Ive not noticed more on the roads- I live in a seaside tourist area and roads are dead in the mornings.

How on earth do you know the people in the other cars arent key workers? or NHS volunteers driving people home after discharge from hospital? or shopping for shielding people? or going to work because they are unable to work from home (perfectly legit and within the guidelines)

I'm sure if another car driver looks at you in your car they'd think YOU are selfish and flouting the rules wouldnt they?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2020 11:13

*typo. My phone really doesn't like me today!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/04/2020 11:20

That had been in a few days and the increase in numbers returning to work and it’s a small amount. A few restaurants opened that made headline news and some building sites and few other businesses this was all heavily reported

The traffic has increased in the last two weeks but most definitely more in this past week (in south London)

Attitudes are changing people don’t feel as at risk anymore people are less on the guard while we have got used to our new norm we are also more relaxed about it and more will make decisions based on their experiences

goshdarnitjanet · 25/04/2020 11:21

Actually I also want everyone else to stay at home so my commute to work is reduced. Just Tuesday to Thursday please. That can continue after lockdown if you don't mind. It's halved my driving time.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 11:21

Lots of large scale businesses around here have returned to work this week... Rolls Royce and Bombardier, to name a couple. That will be 1000’s more people travelling to work than previously.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/04/2020 11:23

I haven’t said I look at other cars and question why people are driving

It’s an observation if for the first few weeks there was hardly any traffic and now there is of course it will be noticed Hmm

And attitudes change that’s just how humans are we get used to a new norm then relax

BakedCam · 25/04/2020 11:23

Quite. This is what happens when the powers that be escalate employees to 'keyworker' status.

It is like some invisible uniform that gives a licence to tell people how to go about their daily business.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/04/2020 11:24

We can't stay in lockdown forever.

Much to the disappointment of some on here.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 11:28

@EnthusiasmIsDisturbed ita really not a small amount.

And a small amount in one area can make a difference. One of our departments has engineers all based around a small town near Leeds. They will all be going back next week.

Some used to car share. Not recommended now. In their town, the small (small in a comparison to the whole population) will make a bug difference. Especially since they will all be in separate vehicles.

Xenia · 25/04/2020 11:35

I am really pleased more people are out on the roads as it may well mean fewer die when we run out of tax money to fund the NHS. Working saves lives. Working pays nurses. Working is for the greater good.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/04/2020 11:37

The only reason I know of those that are working with covid patients in hospitals, frontline or in residential settings are not wanting the lockdown to end and for the lockdown to be slowly adjusted is because we have witnessed how truly awful this virus is and how it impacts hugely how we work it’s been exhausting for many

I would love things to go back to normal I can’t not begin to tell you how stressful work has been at times. I work in a mh unit and it’s just starting to hit me the stress of it all and I’m not dealing with patients or residents dying how they are coping I don’t know the impact will likely be when they have time to themselves and the stress levels lessen

Yet if we dare express a view that we wish people wouldn’t keep making excuses as to why they need to do x,y or z the vitriol we are often on the receiving end is quite shocking

But the MN is known for ganging up so shouldn’t be that surprised

I agree. We need money for the NHS.

I would say the opposite. The tide appears to be turning now though I agree. Ive seen people on the receiving end of horrific abuse simply because they stopped for 5 mins in a park whilst exercising. People telling them they are murderers and all sorts of ridiculous things. These are people acting WITHIN the bloody government guidelines but thats not enough for some, they want to impose their own even stricter version of the rules.

Topseyt · 25/04/2020 11:46

I'm with Xenia on this one.

We also have to remember that the NHS will at some point have to return to being the NHS, and dealing with issues other than Covid 19. Presently, it has been repackaged as the National Covid Service, in the media anyway. People do still have other health issues that need attention.

MarginalGain · 25/04/2020 11:50

I'm afraid that as the lockdown extension expires, if what we've done isn't enough, then the NHS is going to just have to adapt.

This is not callous, just a statement of reality.

Notinthesameboat · 25/04/2020 11:54

I went out for my usual early morning exercise this morning. Yes there were more vehicles on the road than a couple of weeks ago but since this was 6.30am I doubt they were off on a jolly and it is much more likely they were working or going to work.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 11:56

Can you say hypocrite?

PineappleDanish · 25/04/2020 12:02

I did a main weekly shop on Tuesday. We've just run out of bread so DH is walking to the local Co-Op before lunch.

Where do I send our address so that @CurtainWitcher can send the firing squad out?
