Watching today's update and the cars usage graph shows that people are starting to drive for non-essential journeys again.

WHY?

Why can't people just stay at home?! Stop driving around! I see people shopping twice a week or more, regularly. WHY?!

OP posts:
FrippEnos · 24/04/2020 23:34

@CurtainWitcher
WHY shop twice a week when we're supposed to do essential journeys only??

Because the local shop is tiny and stocks very little.

Because they have little shelf space.

Because they only have a small fridge and freezer

There are quite a few reasons, but if you are happy not to think about how other people have to live, you stay in your bubble.

Laniakea · 24/04/2020 23:42

Instead of carping, the people who benefit most from lockdown should be grateful if those who benefit least (and may be actively harmed by it) have been assenting!

^ :) exactly! Aren’t people so marvellous that they would sacrifice so much to gain so little for the sake of people more vulnerable for them #clapfortheumemployed

3rdNamechange · 24/04/2020 23:48

How do you KNOW people are doing non essential journeys and are shopping twice a week** ?

BubblesBuddy · 24/04/2020 23:51

We shop twice a week because it’s within the guidelines. There is nothing in the police guidance which has been drawn up in line with the regulations that says you cannot shop twice a week. I have several supermarkets within around 5 miles and I choose which one I fancy visiting for a change of scene.

The police would be better utilised in stopping gatherings of people in parks which is still happening and noisy gatherings on street corners at 2 am in the morning with no action taken.

PomBearsyummy · 24/04/2020 23:52

Should help my oil stocks rise a bit. On a more serious note you cannot expect people to stay cooped up forever with no hope of freedom. If the government pull their finger out and give some information then people might wait it out a little longer.

Topseyt · 25/04/2020 00:49

OP seems to relish being angry and loves a rule. Especially one that she can twist to make her own.

There are people who wouldn't be happy unless we are all sitting in darkened rooms all day and night with just bread and water to eat, or in OP's case, tinned vegetables.

Most of us have more common sense than that.

"It's natural selection in action."

Eh? I have to shop more than once a week because I don't have a car. Are you saying I'm going to die from not having a car?

Thepigeonsarecoming · 25/04/2020 03:04

@CurtainWitcher

I'm starting to think this country is full of entitled spoilt brats, who live in the lap of luxury

But I do see my smashed avocado on toast each morning as ‘essential’. The avocado has to be fresh though. Plus I couldn’t get through the evening without a glass of Prosecco. Luckily the government has said it’s ok for me to shop daily 😉

I think my lockdown will be more enjoyable and less stressful than yours 😂

cherrybunx0 · 25/04/2020 03:06

you're definitely a troll, never seen such goady bullshit on here before

TimeForChange123 · 25/04/2020 03:12

Have you been living under a rock OP? The 'you don't need to shop more than once a week' threads were done to death a month ago. All your comments are seriously out of date.

I'm expecting you to pop up this time in May with a 'don't eat crisps on a bench' thread.

Kokeshi123 · 25/04/2020 04:12

I don't think the OP is referring to those of you who need to go out more frequently.

Her post actually made it really clear that she is judging anyone who goes out shopping more than once a week.

lljkk · 25/04/2020 09:05

If only 3% of the population have had it.
It's been in UK since Feb...
That's 8 weeks ago
3/8, what has peak prevalence been, maybe 1% were actively ill at the same time?

I haven't interacted with 100 different people in the last 8 weeks.
If you're mostly maintaining 2m, Unless you're in a hotspot or job that requres getting close to people, I think it's been pretty terrifically hard to get.

FirTree31 · 25/04/2020 09:14

Why do people feel the need the explain themselves on such wanky bait posts. You don't need to explain yourself, the vast majority of people are doing as they have been asked. When people start suspecting others of misbehaving and develop a hero complex like the OP, those people also deploy confirmation bias.

Don't explain yourself to these people, especially if you doing things for the right reasons, such as shopping for others, or shopping a couple times a week if you don't have a car or storage or have a child that will only eat certain foods and you want to pick your battles.

I'm so fu*king fed up of these curtain twitcher types, filming people (there was a post here a few days ago about this), the type of people who complain about other people put walking when they are out walking.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 25/04/2020 09:16

Totally agree. Noone needs to justify themselves to a mouth frothing curtain twitcher. In fact, we should all make up outlandish reasons for going out just to watch her implode with rage and self indignation!

TimeForChange123 · 25/04/2020 09:37

NHS England think we're past the peak and from next week will be starting planning how to start routine work again.

Tjsmumma · 25/04/2020 09:43

@lljkk do you seriously trust the numbers going about? But i do agree with your comment it seems veru hard to actually get. I personally know no body who has eben suspected of having it or know anyone who has

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 25/04/2020 09:43

Absolutely right firtree

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2020 09:48

@TimeForChange123 I've been following graphs and data from many different researchers and they all suggest we are indeed past the peak. The death peak seemed to be between 8th-10th April and has been slowly reducing since.

Of course we will never know the true numbers but everything suggests we are heading in the right direction.

madcatladyforever · 25/04/2020 10:20

Why is everyone calling this a stupid bait post and telling the OP to mind her own business.

All these extra people on the roads are making my life difficult and they are stupid ignorant bastards who are going to cause the stats to go right up again with their selfishness.

This has happened here specifically since it got warm.

I drive 15 miles to work, I work with specifically covid-19 patients both on wards and out in the community and have to drive quite a distance.

Up until last week it took me 25 minutes to drive to work, now it takes me almost an hour because the roads are full of pensioners, families, people off to the beach whatever.

I'm struggling to get round my community visits on time because of all the extra traffic and the time it takes to get the PPE on before entering a house.

What part of stay at home don't you understand it's simple. The sunlight doesn't kill covid-19.

I don't want another spike in the figures because people are being selfish morons. I am busy enough thanks you and I'd quite like to live to 60 next year.

People are basically arseholes who think none of the rules apply to them. I'm sick of having no social life too and being stuck indoors on all my days off. I never go out not even for a walk on days off because I'm afraid of giving a fatal illness to someone and we're all bored and devoid of daylight.

madcatladyforever · 25/04/2020 10:22

Of course we will never know the true numbers but everything suggests we are heading in the right direction

Yes heading in the right direction until the whole world decided to start going out because its sunny.

Mumlove5 · 25/04/2020 10:27

Guess what?! I’m going out!!!

mwahahahaaaaaaaa!!!

BakedCam · 25/04/2020 10:39

@madcatladyforever

That's a bit dramatic. I'm not sure what you hope to achieve by shouting on a forum that people are selfish and the 'whole world's deciding to go out.

What would your preferred option be? That everybody imprison themselves so that you are free to go about your business?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2020 10:43

@madcatladyforever that will happen at whatever stage lockdown ends, whether it's tomorrow or in 6 weeks time. We can't stay in lockdown forever.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 25/04/2020 10:44

Yes heading in the right direction until the whole world decided to start going out because its sunny

If you are staying indoors how do you know the world is out everywhere when its sunny?
Are you also out too?
