The “I just had a sit down in the park with crisps” brigade

You are the problem. The rules are simple. Go out and exercise and then go home. Just that, nothing more than that.

To be fair then problem is actually bigger than that and has been brewing for years as we increasingly become a country with rules but almost everyone has an excuse for why that rule shouldn’t apply to them/their child/family.

Good God no!! Are you mad?? I was trying to use it somehow to do sit ups IIRC. Without laying on it ...

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/04/2020 08:27

Phew.

redcarbluecar · 22/04/2020 08:30

You lost me at the word ‘brigade’, sorry.

Maxandezra · 22/04/2020 08:45

thestuff yes of course. Anyone in their house, doing whatever they please must not be infected at all. Unless they are having fun. Or enjoying themselves. Or don't bleach their post. Or open a window......

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/04/2020 08:47

Maxandezra but if you’re having a bbq in your own back garden, with your own household members, then you deserve everything you get.

I went for a run this morning and sat on a bench and drank my water for a few minutes whilst I got my breath back.

Burn! Burn this witch!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/04/2020 09:23

I can't imagine any Judge thinking eating a packet of crisps while exercising is reasonable

What about chips and sausage? And someone up thread mentioned a G&T too ... surely a right-thinking judge would find that reasonable?

The real question is what brooch would Lady Hale wear to announce that chips, sausage and a G&T were reasonable?

goshdarnitjanet · 22/04/2020 09:25

I'm finding this CS Lewis quote quite apt at the moment (Yes I am abiding by the lockdown, no I'm not sitting on any benches, I have just eaten a packet of monster munch for breakfast at my desk but I am in an "essential" job apparently so I have no idea where I stand on the infection scale)

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/04/2020 09:28

goshdarnitjanet as long as you didn’t enjoy the monster munch you’ll be fine. And if you did enjoy them, you must publicly self flagellate.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 22/04/2020 09:29

I went for a run this morning and sat on a bench and drank my water for a few minutes whilst I got my breath back.

Its fine. Water is virteous. Which, apparently, reduces the risk of your spreading or catching anything. Wink

goshdarnitjanet · 22/04/2020 09:30

I did enjoy them - very much. They were roast beef flavour. I am an awful person. Sad

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/04/2020 09:31

I’d kill for some monster munch. Pickled onion flavour though.

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 09:44

We only have Pom Bears. They are gluten free too.

Is the OP going to come back to this post?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/04/2020 09:47

That's actually OK because water is virtuous. A lot of what is happening up thread is actually about food policing and shaming, not CV.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/04/2020 09:51

Pom bears? BearBearEnvy
Well, you're not going to be needing them to serve at dinner parties for a while so flaunting them al fresco seems apt (note - flaunting the Pom bears to arouse envy, not flaunting the 'rules')
But do you have a stash of fruit shoots to wash them down with?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 22/04/2020 10:05

I'm glad you are all finding this so funny.

This is a new virus, no one is yet sure how easy it is to catch it and so advice has been issued - only go out when necessary, wash your hands properly and avoid touching your eyes, nose and face.

Some of you though are acting like defiant children, hell bent on proving just how tough you are. Remain in denial but as it stands, touching an object and then touching your face (eg sitting on a public bench and then eating) is a route of infection. Of course, you are free to take your chances but you are putting others at risk by doing so. I'm failing to see what's so funny about that?

LaMarschallin · 22/04/2020 10:09

But do you have a stash of fruit shoots to wash them down with?

A stash?

Now, I'll support people's rights to have enough Pom Bears and fruit shoots for their personal use in these troubled times.
But just remember, lots of poor wretches with a Pot Noodles habit started that way.

Sometimes a crisp is just the gateway...

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 10:10

Hearhoovesthinkzebras - well if you’re shielding it won’t bother you then will it? As you’re staying inside.

1forsorrow · 22/04/2020 10:13

I would love someone to explain how eating a bag of crisps increases your chances of getting the virus. If I sit on a bench I never touch it with my hands, here the bench will definitely have been walked on by seagulls, it might have been slept on by someone homeless who won't have great access to hygiene so my hands don't get contaminated.

Anyway the police guidelines have said it is OK to sit down when out exercising and it is OK to have something to eat/drink while you do so why do some people want to make the rules tougher than they are?

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/04/2020 10:14

Remain in denial but as it stands, touching an object and then touching your face (eg sitting on a public bench and then eating) is a route of infection

I am more than capable of sitting on a bench without touching it with my hands.
What do you think of people doing box jumps on benches hooves?

Rulz of corona:
1- be TERRIFIED
2- sad face all the fucking time

3- virtue = good pleasure = bad ... remember corona is coming to get you
4- sacrifice will protect you ... avoid all things nice (food wine sex particularly) ... all resources must be directed towards bleach, single use plastics and food that your children hate.

It’s the only way.
