You are the problem. The rules are simple. Go out and exercise and then go home. Just that, nothing more than that.

To be fair then problem is actually bigger than that and has been brewing for years as we increasingly become a country with rules but almost everyone has an excuse for why that rule shouldn’t apply to them/their child/family.

Jesus Christ HearHooves. You've done it again. You've done it on so many threads. So many people trying so hard and explaining it so well and you either genuinely not understanding (unlikely given your level of literacy) or just being..I'm not allowed to say

I'm out. Again. As so many others have before.

peppermintcapsules · 22/04/2020 17:19

Anyone else want to bitch slap whoever it was who coined the term 'shielding' to apply to this?

peppermintcapsules · 22/04/2020 17:21

I need a sword to go with my shield.

HavartiToSeeYou · 22/04/2020 17:23

Oh feck this.

What other Snaktastic products should I get from Lidl?

Anyone offer an opinion on whether Nik Naks are crisps, corn snacks, or some eldritch horror originating from unknown alien universes?

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 17:27

Sooner or later, those employed by supermarkets likes Hooves will have to go back to work. They aren’t going to keep on paying you forever, even if you are being shielded.

I have asthma and I got flu last year requiring steroids. I was almost at the point of being admitted to hospital. I don’t work in a public facing role but in offices. I don’t think my employer would be impressed if I wanted to take every winter off on full pay. I certainly would not expect my employer to keep on paying me for years in the current situation.

peppermintcapsules · 22/04/2020 17:31

Definitely the bagel crisps, Havarti. And the nuts. Lidl nuts are delicious. I like their sundried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, jarred mushrooms and olives as well. I prefer savoury snacks whilst on the trail, nice and salty. This morning I took a pitta stuffed with chicken, olives, sundried toms and artichoke hearts. And Kettle crisps.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 22/04/2020 17:31

The risk factors of you catching it are the same as anyone else's. What is different is that you could get seriously ill if you did catch it. The government doesn't want hundreds of thousands (millions?) of people that could get seriously ill in hospitals ,overwhelming the NHS and using up resources , so it's easier to tell (strongly advise) them all to stay at home(mainly for work and shopping purposes ,which are the higher risks). That's their risk assessment. Fairly simplistic and one rule to fit all, but you can see where they're coming from.

You can make your own risk assessment of whether a 5 am walk not seeing anyone or touching anything is safe to do. If you don't think it is, no one is forcing you to go. If you think it is,no one is forcing you to stay inside.

I won't be going back while there is still a threat from this.

InTheShadiws

I'm sorry that you don't like it, don't believe it, whatever bit I genuinely don't understand. So, again, I'm sorry if that annoys you.

gandalf456 · 22/04/2020 17:34

If that's the advice to you, it must be frightening id you then go outside

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 17:39

Seeing as the coronavirus threat is here to stay, it must be very worrying financially for those being shielded.

Possibly if you are so vulnerable working in a public facing job might not be for you Hooves? As an asthmatic, a dose of influenza could be life threatening for me.

gandalf456 · 22/04/2020 17:49

I would say it would be down to Occupational Health. They would do a risk assessment and place said person in a less public facing role - eg upstairs office, warehouse - or change shifts to quieter times . This has happened where I work.

There are a lot of comparisons with flu but there is a vaccine available and antivirals (Tamiflu) lessen the symptoms if caught early. For Coronavirus, we can do little except hope the body is strong enough ti fight off

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 22/04/2020 18:13

There aren't non customer facing roles. We have no office staff - that's all done off site somewhere. Warehouse is very heavy manual work which I'm not physically able to do. Occupational health have already moved me from my shop floor role to checkouts several years ago as a reasonable adjustment.

There is no suitable job available if I'm advised to not be customer facing.

Willow2017 · 22/04/2020 18:13

There is no such thing as social distancing in my supermarket! Working in the back/warehouse there are still too many people coming and going its impossible to stay 2m away all the time. Same with working on the floor doing shelves etc people exlect the shelves to be filled/ cleared and faced up but they do not think SD applies to staff they lean over us like we dont exist, almost barge trolleys into us if we dont jump out the way in time.

I have resigned myself to the fact that if i havent had it yet despite the best efforts of customers to give me it i never will. Fingers crossed i am right as i need to provide for my family.

gandalf456 · 22/04/2020 18:20

I know. By the end of the shift, you just give up. It's impossible to see/hear everyone approach and loads wear headphones so are even less aware of their surroundings

Shitsgettingcrazy · 22/04/2020 18:27

On this point I wonder if there is going to be a change in legislation. Usually, a business would be able to manage people out of the company.

I wonder if it will be chabged that you can't manage shield people out for at least 18 months (depending on vaccines). That they remain as an employee but on zero pay and able to come back if/when a vaccine is available.

peppermintcapsules · 22/04/2020 18:30

Guess that's you fucked then, Hooves. No matter what anyone suggests, it will never work for you.

Read willows post. She is saying the same thing.

I can't make a job up that doesn't exist. Clearly you are ignorant of job roles in supermarkets, that isn't my fault.

Quiz willow on the availability of jobs for disabled people in a supermarket if you don't believe me.

I cannot believe how spiteful people are.

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 19:05

peppermintcapsules - 😂

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/04/2020 19:15

Hooves - I’m sorry about your predicament, what will you do once they stop paying one? I’m genuinely curious. The government expects shielded people to stay indoors, for good reason, was it for 12 weeks? Yet during week 13 you’ll be “allowed” out? I don’t know what will have suddenly changed from the week before to make it safe for you to go out again and I sense that you won’t be going out any time soon.

I hope if they can’t pay full pay they’ll at least pay statutory sick pay for the reminding months that you’ll have to shield, particularly if these goes on into 2021. They can’t just abandon people.

Zlip · 22/04/2020 19:56

Oh fir God's sake stop being deliberately obtuse. you're showing how ignorant, intolerant and nasty you are willow - how about showing some compassion and encouragement?

I understand exactly what hooves is saying/asking regarding perceived risk going out and lack of clarity. You, however, are being nasty, or are you just trying to make yourself look clever?

hooves I really feel for you.. Shielding and the circumstances meaning you need to be in that group is awful. I hope all goes well for you.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 22/04/2020 20:00

BirdieFriendReturns

I don't think the government will lift shielding in week 13, I think they will expect us to shield for a lot longer.

What will I do about my job? I don't know. I won't be going back to work until it's safe to do so. Perhaps they'll have to give me full PPE to protect myself? Who knows.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 22/04/2020 20:01

Zlip

Thank you.

Willow2017 · 22/04/2020 20:08

Zlip
I have a shielding letter too.
Its pretty clear from the numerous posts on here and every other thread Hooves* has hijacked explaining the risks to het what the risks are. It's not rocket science.

Zlip · 22/04/2020 20:19

Willow2017 I wasn't talking to you about her numerous posts or rocket science, I was pointing out that the way you respond is unkind, Intolerant etc., it is possible for you to say what you wanted to without being nasty. I don't see the connection between your anger/intolerance etc to you having a shielding letter. The letter doesn't mean it's OK to berate others who have the letter. Please, be nice... If you can't, just take yourself elsewhere?
