The “I just had a sit down in the park with crisps” brigade

You are the problem. The rules are simple. Go out and exercise and then go home. Just that, nothing more than that.

To be fair then problem is actually bigger than that and has been brewing for years as we increasingly become a country with rules but almost everyone has an excuse for why that rule shouldn’t apply to them/their child/family.

Dictionary definition of a bench:

noun. a long seat for several persons

A seat. For sitting.

tootyfruitypickle · 21/04/2020 21:32

This is possibly my favourite thread of these times Grin

loobyloo1234 · 21/04/2020 21:32

@Floatyboat

All of the gym crap you are spouting are not legitimate reasons to be on a bench. Anyone sitting down is legitimate like you’ve been told over and over

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 21:32

You have covid on the soles of your shoes? I think that is bordering on paranoia now.

Hmm no but you can all sorts of shot on your shoes. Covid isn't the only thing that makes people ill.

You may jump all over your sofa at home in your shoes and not give a shit, that's fine. That your home.

Doing it outside where others will sit, is down right rank.

Especially, since you argue that those with limited mobility may also use those benches. Why expose them to all the crop on your shoes?

Benches are not for outdoor exercise. They are for sitting on. Sitting on it, eating crisps or not, is more legitimate than box jumps or circuits.

Absolutely ridiculous, that you feel eating crisps is risking spreading covid, but box jumps are fine.

Even outside pandemic, putting your dirty shoes in a bench is rank.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 21:35

It has veered off into fun and special directions alright.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 21:37

Since when is it okay to treat a park bench like your own personal gym, but not allow people to sit on it?

Even by the crazy standards of this thread that’s batshit.

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/04/2020 21:37

Isn’t it?!

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 21:41

My local bench is in memory of Ethel somebody or other.
I don’t think she’d like it if you jumped on her bench......apparently she just liked to take in the view

Floatyboat · 21/04/2020 21:42

@LaurieMarlow

Since forever, unless stipulated in specific rule of the bench owner eg park, local authority etc. What legislation forbids it?

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 21:45

What legislation forbids it?

But you don’t want people to sit on it, which is it’s fundamental purpose.

Seriously feel like I’ve slipped into a twilight zone here.

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/04/2020 21:45

But why is it more acceptable to jump up and down on it for exercise than it is to sit on it and eat a snack?
I’m telling myself that you don’t genuinely believe this (because it would be fucking insane) and are just playing devil’s advocate.

Floatyboat · 21/04/2020 21:47

In normal times I have no issue with anyone sitting on the bench. At the moment I simply feel people should use some discretion. Given the grass is so dry and lush with daisies right now, surely you'd rather sit there.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 21/04/2020 21:47

I’m so over this shit.

You want to sit on a bench and eat crisps? Go wild. Just make sure you keep your distance and you wash or sanitise your hands.

Merry Christmas

suchclearwater · 21/04/2020 21:48

I could really do with some salt and vinegar squares right now Wink

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/04/2020 21:48

And surely you’d rather ‘box jump’ elsewhere?

Namesgonenow · 21/04/2020 21:49

Just read this entire thread. Madness. Just absolute madness.

Floatyboat · 21/04/2020 21:52

@Drivingdownthe101

Depends what's around. Maybe if there is a suitable wall that would be fine.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 21:52

Amazing. Turns out one of the biggest voices on MN when it comes to spouting made up rules and judging how poorly people behave, turns out to have no concept of hygiene. And would happily see see disabled people needing a rest whilst execising put at risk of catching all sorts, so that someone can box jump on a bench.

Either that, or they are just GF. I hope Hooves is reading this, given Floaty has been a big supporter of their views, turns out to be ignoring basic hygiene recommendations.

Sitting on a bench is the intended purpose, putting your feet on a bench, is not.

If people shielding, like Hooves, decide to go for a walk they are far more at risk from people who use the benches for box jumps, than they are from people eating crisps.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 21:52

At the moment I simply feel people should use some discretion

But you want to stomp all over it with the soles of your germ ridden shoes? Confused

Given the grass is so dry and lush with daisies right now, surely you'd rather sit there.

Nope. I want to sit in the bench put there for that purpose.

Honestly, there is no sense to this whatsoever. Is it just me? Have CV threads finally addled my brain?

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 21:53

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 21:55

I hope the press pick up in this thread and ask bench related questions at tomorrow’s press briefing.

We need clarity

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 21:55

I think people get so caught up with ‘besting’ other posters with their points that they fall off the logic cliff totally and don’t even notice.

Hence ‘box jumps cool, but sitting isn’t showing discretion’ Confused

It’s the most bizarre reasoning I’ve heard on here (and that’s saying something)

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 21:57

Or is it just the crisps? People can’t bear crisps and are projecting all kinds of shite because of this?

Floatyboat · 21/04/2020 21:57

Who is hooves?

Box jumping was an example. Im not convinced it's a serious risk of transmission given birds poo on them, dogs sniff them, drunks vomit on them, people eat on them and all sorts of other things.

KeepWashingThoseHands · 21/04/2020 21:58

The world is a scary place right now. Not sure if I'm more scared of other people or COVID-19.

Just posted on a thread where the OP is delighting in having reported the neighbours for illegal gatherings. Irony is the post contains a photo with identifiable information but clearly the OP doesn't consider the morality of that - all bets are off when you're 'right' right?

Not sure about a man-made virus so much as an psychology experiment in watching society break down over stooopid shit.
