The “I just had a sit down in the park with crisps” brigade

You are the problem. The rules are simple. Go out and exercise and then go home. Just that, nothing more than that.

To be fair then problem is actually bigger than that and has been brewing for years as we increasingly become a country with rules but almost everyone has an excuse for why that rule shouldn’t apply to them/their child/family.

If you did extra self flagellation it’ll be ok. I thought it might be vulgar to do it in public, do you think I was wrong? I'd hate to make that sort of faux pas. To be honest though I was more worried about if they came over to check what DH was swigging as I'm not sure taking your oramorph in public is quite proper.

People who get infected because some greedy sod is eating crisps on a bench

The risk of getting CV because someone ate crisps on a bench is so infinitesimally low that I’m not sure what to do with this comment.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/04/2020 20:54

Most people do not need to eat whilst exercising. I wouldn't. Mainly because I not that organised.

And also, unlike the crisp eating 'brigade' which this thread is a TAAT about ... you're presumably not four years old?

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 20:55

People who get infected because some greedy sod is eating crisps on a bench. That's who. Eat crisps on a bench in your garden if it matters that much. Don't inflict it on others.

The only person with the slightest chance of catching it off a bench, is people sitting on the bench. Who then stroke it and then touch their face and don't wash their hands.

Whats their excuse for sitting on the bench, in the first place? Or is bench sitting allowed as long there's no crisps? Is it the crisps that increase the risk of infection.

SuperMumTum · 21/04/2020 20:55

@Floatyboat My kids and I went for a walk today. We walked up a big hill and DD ate an apple on a bench before we carried on our way. One person with a dog walked past at a distance of about 10 meters. We also saw a horse in a field. Who exactly did I infect with my bench sitting?

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 20:56

No, doing it in public is better

Shows people you’re taking it seriously, inspires them to do it too. Flagellation parties will be the next big thing, I tell ya.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 20:56

Well no. But I don't object to people who do it. Because I am not a judgmental twat.

Floatyboat · 21/04/2020 21:00

@supermumtum

I have no issue with small children having fruit. Not convinced sitting on the bench is necessary.

@Shitsgettingcrazy

Lots of legitimate reasons to use a bench. Tricep dips, box jumps, sitting down if have certain physical limitations etc.

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 21:00

Do you think that people who sit on benches might realise that someone has sat on the bench before them?
Maybe we should put warning signs up.

Twattergy · 21/04/2020 21:00

Next time I'm out I'm going to sit down and eat some crisps just to wind up people like the OP.

Kastanien · 21/04/2020 21:04

People are only generally out for less than two or three hours. Why can’t they limit eating to meal times?

Same reason you posted your judgey comment. Because they want to. Not everyone has to do what you say or be the same as you.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 21:06

Nope. You don't need to use them for triceps dips. You can do that at home. If you can't walk and sit on a bench you can't use them as an outdoor gym, surely?

How is using them for triceps dips, fine, but using for their intended use (sitting on) not OK. You really think people who don't need to sit down, shouldn't sit down....but its OK to do tricep dips on them?

If you are using a bench for doing that, you could catch it from someone else who sat there, not eating crisps. Or someone one else that did tricep dips.

If you have limited mobility, again, you could catch off a bench, from someone else with limited mobility who was sat down previously, again....not eating crisps.

And you still shouldnt be touching your face and washing your hands.

nicky7654 · 21/04/2020 21:07

Read the rules!! You can stop for a snack so stop shouting out your own version! It's boring!!!!!!!

Shitsgettingcrazy · 21/04/2020 21:09

and box jumps?

Eating crisps on a bench increases liklihood of spread covid.

But jumping on the bench, with your shoes on is fine? What about the person with limited mobility than comes along and sits down 10 minutes later. On the bench, that some twat has been jumping on in their shoes?

Ffs, logic isn't your strong point.

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 21:14

I guess you might have limited mobility if you eat a lot of crisps......this could be self fulfilling!!

Kastanien · 21/04/2020 21:18

Still wondering about whether we can all.go.out for a bus ride - you know, as it isn't against the law? Must be ok right?

It is ok if you want it to be. There is no law against it so it is up to the individual to risk assess. Probably most people would not unless they have to, but that is free choice. As is eating crisps on a park bench.

Or battered sausages absolutely anywhere.

loobyloo1234 · 21/04/2020 21:18

It’s a bench. You sit on benches. None of the reasons you’ve put there are therefore legitimate. HTH

Floatyboat · 21/04/2020 21:20

You have covid on the soles of your shoes? I think that is bordering on paranoia now.

Box jumps and tricep dips in context of circuit type exercise with some exercises in the circuit needing the outdoor space, eg sprints.

Floatyboat · 21/04/2020 21:22

@loobyloo1234
Not legitimate for disabled people to sit on a bench when having a breather from exercising?

You sound lovely.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 21/04/2020 21:24

Covid on shoes has been mentioned in a few articles

www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200414/cdc-covid-19-can-spread-13-feet-travel-on-shoes

There’s been loads of theories

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/04/2020 21:25

And they are more legitimate reasons for using a bench than a child sitting on it to have a snack?

Floatyboat · 21/04/2020 21:26

@drivingdown

A child can sit on the grass.

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/04/2020 21:28

And you can exercise elsewhere. A bench is for sitting.

MH1111 · 21/04/2020 21:29

Maybe we can ask our local councils to leave PPE near benches so we can use them safely?

I don’t want to take risks eating my battered sausage!

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 21:29

A child can sit on the grass.

What if there’s no grass/the grass us wet?
