Thread for continuing long-term Coronavirus support

@pinkoneblueone try to focus on the positives in your situation. I know that’s easier said than done but your dh’s chest being clear is a good thing. I know It’s horrible when you feel unwell but all your tests come back normal as it kind minimises what are very real symptoms, but at least you know he doesn’t seem to have any long term damage to his chest which can only be a good thing.

Remember that no one really understands this virus and how it affects people in different ways so all bets are off when it comes to expecting it to progress in a certain way. Is your dh taking painkillers for the chest pains? If not then it would be worth trying some to see if it helps.

One other thing - could it have been what you were washing your shopping in that triggered your asthma attack?

@SchrodingersKitty I am very sorry to hear about your dh you’ve had a terrible time of it Flowers

WorriesomeDad · 23/04/2020 06:00

36 from proper symptoms (41 from what seemed to be a cold) I don’t really see it can be anything else apart from the virus lingering on. I’ve still got a horrible taste in my mouth and the symptoms are so variable. Would be really interested to see some more of the research out of other countries about how long moderate cases are active for.

Morning. Day 33/34. My chest feels tight but peak flow and Sats are ok so haven’t taken extra inhalers (yet). Am worried I may be relapsing. Did 7 minutes level 3 on the exercise bike.

@WorriesomeDad I hope you get a break soon. I share your scepticism that these long-standing symptoms are post-viral.

fedupofbed · 23/04/2020 08:44

Morning and sorry @WorriesomeDad and @pinkoneblueone that the breathing/ chest issues are still such a nightmare. I definitely don't have it as bad as you with the breathing but still have it enough in the background to understand your worry.

There was a small mention of long recovery times on Radio 4 Inside Health yesterday. It really was just a snippet on the show but the presenter said they'd been getting emails from people saying how complicated the recovery process has been even in mild cases. One was from a very fit 33 year old who was still getting temperatures 3 weeks later. They then interviewed a GP/clinical lecturer, James Gill, but he didn't really have to much to add - only that there's very little information yet about those who haven't been to hospital (obviously no testing so no clear data about who actually has it) and that people should rest for as long as it takes. They were more focused on fatigue rather than ongoing chest symptoms.

So no new information as such but it was good to hear that stories similar to ours are getting out to mainstream media.

longshot · 23/04/2020 08:48

@SchrodingersKitty I am so very sorry to read your update and the prognosis for your DH. You are in my thoughts.

Countingsheeps · 23/04/2020 08:51

Morning everyone. Sympathies to those who had awful nights- I did too. Every time I thought I was falling asleep I ended up gasping for breath as if I had forgotten to breathe. I also coughed up tiny bits of what tasted like blood, after not having a cough for 2 days. My ears feel blocked this morning just to add to the fun. I’m so fed up now and getting really scared. It’s going to be the 4th day in a row in bed for me and I really thought I was getting better on Sunday. Hugs to those in similar positions today xxx

longshot · 23/04/2020 08:54

Day 43 I think, forgot to update on here for a day or so.

I am feeling generally ok but quite fatigued and have a sore throat. Still far better than I was though.

However this morning all my chest pain (sharp stabbing ones around the heart and Into my shoulder) returned when I got annoyed / stressed with my DD. Is anyone else finding this? I’m worried I’ve developed something like angina or swelling around my heart now. It faded away when I left the room and lay down but I still have a sort of persisting weakness in my left arm.

I’m starting to realise that although the acute stuff seems to have left me now I may well have been damaged by the virus medium to long term.

I had bloods and an ecg last week which is some comfort but I’m not entirely sure that would show something like angina up. I’m now wondering if I need to try and get some sort of private check up if the NHS and following up with ‘folk like us’ who have clearly suffered but not needed oxygen.

Bit fed up today after feeling I was in recovery for the past 10 days. I’m 38 and wasn’t really expecting heart issues however they do run in my family. I am (was) really fit but wondering if this virus has sped up any issues I may have faced later in life.

Kitcat122 · 23/04/2020 09:02

@WorrisomeDad @Moodgie I am sorry you feel stuck. I am feeling better and back at work but still have mild chest pain and sob. I am worried as feel like I am never going to get back to exercise and normal life.

tupperwaretowers · 23/04/2020 09:07

@longshot Day 41 and same here. Had a few good days then yesterday random stabby/twinge chest pains not particularly triggered by anything. I had a 7 day course of antibiotics about 3 weeks ago which seem to give some relief. I’m not sure what to think.

Kitcat122 · 23/04/2020 09:11

@longshot I am exactly the same. Much better, back to work But still getting chest pain and sob. My doctor when I spoke to her 10 days ago said these symptoms could last another 4 weeks. This was half comfort/half how the hell do you know over the phone 🙄😂.

Dorual · 23/04/2020 09:19

Oh dear there's loads of relapses today. Hope it improves for everyone and you're able to get out in the sun for a bit.

I'm still in bed. Woken up with a low heart rate (52) and feeling dizzy and panicky. BP, sats and blood sugars OK. So not sure what's going on. I feel a bit bloated so maybe it's indigestion/constipation annoying my system.

Porcupineinwaiting · 23/04/2020 09:19

Morning All

Day 34 or possibly 35 here. Had an uncomfortable night full of burning/tingling skin, vivid dreams and night sweats but I did sleep. This morning skin is still burning away and chest feels a little tight but otherwise I feel ok.

Yesterday I joined my book group for a virtual meeting and they told me how unwell I still looked, so that was nice. Confused

Today, as a change from worrying about my health, I am worrying about my friend and his family who live near Oyo in Nigeria. Got a series of panicked messages from him yesterday - coronavirus is really starting to bite there (in Nigeria) and he's worried sick.

Meercatmama · 23/04/2020 09:23

Day 39 A really funny night Going to bed had sore throat chest pains and headache. During the night woke feeling hot and an ache in my arm pits but it felt like my body was fighting something Woke this morning feeling better Cough has lessened as well Wondering what is going on

Egghead68 · 23/04/2020 09:26

@longshot do you think your chest symptoms could be pleurisy?

Sorry so many have had bad nights and relapses (including me). I’m going back to bed ...

Linus1972 · 23/04/2020 09:30

@tupperwaretowers @Kitcat122 @longshot I've been getting chest pains too. It's not exactly where my heart is located but just to the left of my sternum. I'd noticed it happening while driving DH to the supermarket and it was bad for a few hours afterwards, going down into my left arm. Yesterday I skipped the drive and it was the first time in days that I didn't have the pains. It sounds ridiculous. The chest pains are the most worrying thing I have - there's so many possible reasons for them. I had my heart tested at A&E last week and they said it was fine, so I'm at a loss. I'm just trying to get as much rest as possible, keeping myself distracted with work/films/ipad games and keeping up the hope that eventually I will shake this off and go back to normal.

@Moodgie - are you still getting phlegm? I was wondering what colour it is, and when it's worst. Mine is clear, more like spit, usually not very thick, and tastes salty. It makes me cough and is worse after eating.

Dorual · 23/04/2020 09:37

I've also gone back to worrying that this wasn't Covid, and that we all have it to come. We have no way of finding out. I keep Googling to find an antibody test, even one shipped from abroad, but I can't find a thing. I'm sure there were some available to businesses before, but I couldn't find them. Plus I don't have a business..

longshot · 23/04/2020 09:40

@Egghead68 yes the GP diagnosed pleurisy about 2.5 weeks ago, it was really bad at that point and has wind even decreased almost to nothing really. It only seems to come back if I am stressed and I assume it would if I did more than a short stroll (I feel it would). It’s the fact it’s all in my heart area and radiates to left arm that worries me but I guess it could just go on a long time.

Meercatmama · 23/04/2020 09:42

The chest pains are very similar to the ones I take medication for which is cardiac spasms. This is when the muscles of the heart or on the arteries and veins contract in a spasm. This causes heart pain that can radiate down the arm I have found my medication helps this so I wonder if this is part if the recovery process. However any heart pains should be investigated. I should know as I ended up in hospital six years ago after a particular bad spasm which I thought was heartburn / indigestion which had lead to my heart giving off enzymes that it was in trouble. Please phone your doctor just in case if they are bad or continuous they will arrange an ecg.

Andromeida59 · 23/04/2020 09:48

Hello everyone. Just checking back in. I think I'm on day 41/42. My chest symptoms have really decreased and I am finding it easier to breathe.
However, the virus has now triggered my Fibromyalgia so I am now dealing with that. The fatigue is extraordinary and I don't believe I've ever had it to this extent. Mornings are definitely better for me. This morning (as up since 5 with stomach problems), I've showered and changed the bed. It might not sound like much but it is for me. I know each day I'm getting better but it is tough to stay positive. It doesn't help that we've been ordering takeaways as both too tired to cook.

@SchrodingersKitty I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. Sending lots of love to you all.

pinkoneblueone · 23/04/2020 09:49

@bornlazy I was just using a big standard antibac wipe the attack happened as I stood up suddenly from bending a huge bubble caught in my chest and set off the attack. I am very very tired today so plan to try and rest as much as I can today

pinkoneblueone · 23/04/2020 09:59

Morning all after four hours sleep I have woken with a sore throat and cotton wool lodged in there which is making me feel like my breathing is off. I feel like shit this morning if I'm honest day 46 today. I can strongly recommend taking everything slow. Everything I am trying to do the stuff the both of us were doing at the start to release pressure from the other half but I can't do it I today I just want to try and rest and get more sleep. I am thankful my children are older And can entertain themselves for a while.

onlinelinda · 23/04/2020 10:16

@shrodingerkitty I'm really sorry to hear about your DH, AND that you're still not recovered yet yourself. I'll be thinking of you at this tough time, and in these unfair circumstances.

Moodgie · 23/04/2020 10:20

@Linus1972 The phlegm has been here this week - up and down like everything else, nothing really comes out and whatever I make myself cough out when steaming is clear.

Rosesofeyam · 23/04/2020 10:58

shrodingerkitty I'm so sorry Flowers Thinking of you & your DH.

Day 35
I had a restless night. I'm sleeping propped up by six pillows. It's the only way i can breathe. I also have OA of the neck, so I'm careful of my sleeping position. It's a trade off at the moment.

I ache all over today. Still SOB and tiredness. Pain is increasing, but I've put that down to coming off steriods.
I still have alot of phlegm and a cough, but as I'm asthmatic & pollen season, who knows.

I just want to get back to my normal, which wasn't normal due to my other conditions but it was alot better than now.

Sorry, feeling a bit sorry for myself today.

tupperwaretowers · 23/04/2020 11:03

@SchrodingersKitty sorry to hear about your lovely DH. Lots of love to the both of you.
