I change my mind every day depending on what I read. It ranges anywhere between May and September.

I just wondered what others thought?

Because the virus won't be eradicated by September.

Redwinestillfine · 21/04/2020 15:07

A vaccine may not even be possible. Social distancing may be the new normal until testing is available for all on a regular basis.

circusintown · 21/04/2020 16:15

"I can imagine some primary schools in some areas will go back with reduced number of pupils during the summer holidays for those who need that schooling for whatever reason. Holidays may need to be flexed accordingly."

@Lelivre you don't watch the briefings then? Or RTFT? The education secretary confirmed that there are no plans at all for this just days ago. As has been detailed up thread

effingterrified · 21/04/2020 17:25

September.

If it's sooner than that, mine won't be going in.

GrumpyMug2 · 21/04/2020 20:48

11th may

Keepdistance · 21/04/2020 21:55

Theyve said the over 70s might have to stay in a year so i imagine that would be true for shielding too. Or till a vax.
Would depend how many teachers are shielding.
Tbh i would take a sabbatical...

People saying August? Just stop. That is the Summer holiday. The kids are still working every day, they should not be going back over the holiday.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/04/2020 07:45

When the nhs workers think it's reasonable:

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 22/04/2020 07:50

@yellowbluebell Scottish schools is usually go back in the middle of August!

Bluewater1 · 22/04/2020 07:50

September

Keepdistance · 22/04/2020 09:28

Bbc news reported another teacher has died. (Obviously i dont know if this was caught at school).

I completely agree with the opinion in that tes article.
Also increased pupils at school increases risk key workers will catch from their children and vise versa.

It’s the summer holiday in England, schools in Scotland finish at the end of June and go back in August. The Scottish education minister has said schools don’t be going back here until after the summer break, which is August. Which is why some people are saying August.

twinnywinny14 · 22/04/2020 19:32

@MyDcAreMarvel the government disputed that claim report and said that was not a decision they have made

AldiAisleOfCrap · 22/04/2020 19:40

They government made not have made the claim
yet but they will. Shielding people are not going to magically be unaffected by Coronavirus on June 15th.

SophieB100 · 22/04/2020 19:40

What became very clear from Witty in today's Briefing is that we are in for the long haul. I want to get back to my job as a T.A., I was hopeful for after half term, but now I'm thinking September, if we're lucky. They were talking about restrictions for a year.

It is all so sad.

Daffodil101 · 22/04/2020 19:58

Can’t keep schools closed for a year though.

SophieB100 · 22/04/2020 20:16

Of course they can't @Daffodil101, I agree.

Daffodil101 · 22/04/2020 20:30

So why do you say September if we are lucky, then talk about a year?

SophieB100 · 22/04/2020 21:57

Re-read what I wrote: they said today restrictions for a year. Not school closures for a year. I think, following today's briefing, when Witty laid it on the line that life won't go back to normal for a long time, schools will be lucky to open in September. I thought my post was clear, I never said schools will be shut for a year.
