I change my mind every day depending on what I read. It ranges anywhere between May and September.

I just wondered what others thought?

OP posts:

August for the start of the new school year.

itsgettingweird · 20/04/2020 18:08

I think most of our mindsets are being fuelled by the media literally having to find something to print and printing these reports as fact (but worded cleverly in a way it's just a suggestion of what could happen).

The best was the weekend.

Headline: schools could reopen on 8th May

Actual content: could look at ways to open. Possibly a year group each day. Just year 10 and 12 post primary. Only nurseries in May with primaries to follow in June. Lessons during summer.

Daily briefing: Gavin Williamson says no plans yet, Oak academy open and laptop scheme for disadvantaged families with 4G dongle if needed. No plans to open schools during summer break.

The truth is with all the government are putting in place for learning at home I think the obvious truth is it'll be a long time until FT schooling as we knew it will return.

And I say that as someone who works in a a school and so is still working!

Nobody knows but people are allowed to speculate and discuss it

But why do they need to start endless new threads? If you're interested in meaningless spouting of dates why not read yesterday's thread or the day before or the day before?

No new dates have been invented.

gandalf456 · 20/04/2020 18:24

This is the only thread I've seen so far

MaryShelley1818 · 20/04/2020 18:30

1st June :)

weegiemum · 20/04/2020 18:30

Don't think mine will ever go back - well I actually know they won't.

Ds (18) was in S6 sitting his highers/advanced highers. Dd2 (16) was in S5 sitting highers. Both are leaving school this year and exam leave was slated to start next week, and when their exams were over that was it. Both have college etc accepted for next year, so no more school for us! Not even another parents evening!! Hooray!! ( not even 1/4 as glad as dd2 was!!)

Pomegranatepompom · 20/04/2020 18:32

Hopefully June- if the testing (antibody and pcr) is robust by then. Vulnerable people should continue to shield.

Teachers will be here soon with all the flowers I expect !

CheesePleaseLoueese · 20/04/2020 18:32

June I think

PleasantVille · 20/04/2020 18:32

On my goodness @RigaBalsam, thank you for the link to that thread, there are way more than even I thought.

Even if you hadn't seen any of the threads who would think that no one would have asked the question previously?

TiddlestheCat · 20/04/2020 18:42

End of May! Schools will be part of the first phase back imo. This is because children tend not to travel far or on public transport (usually walk or school bus) and because, any cases detected can be traced/acted upon relatively promptly, so an individual school can be easily shut down. So if parents/families are still self isolating/working from home and the kids only go to school (but no other clubs/activities/mixing with kids outside of school, they could potentially control any risk of it spreading too much.

Goodness-all my kids and most of their friends travel to school by public transport!

Whatsmyname26 · 20/04/2020 18:59

From what I’ve read new brexit ins need to be below 500 a day. Currently we are still at over 4.5k a day so a while yet I think. My guess is September tbh.

Whatsmyname26 · 20/04/2020 18:59

Urgh autocorrect made a mess of that! New infections not brexit

PleasantVille · 20/04/2020 19:02

What an hilarious autocorrect, how many times must you have typed Brexit for your device to think that's what you meant GrinGrin

But far? You missed that out of your response.

Scruffyoak · 20/04/2020 19:03

September or even October

Scruffyoak · 20/04/2020 19:05

I live in Suffolk and most get the bus.

Where have you read that?

Letseatgrandma · 20/04/2020 19:07

@primallass

Nobody asked how far-does it matter? Mine have to go into the main town and then catch another bus to go out to school. It’s probably two x 10/15 minute bus journeys.

Inconnu · 20/04/2020 19:08

I think after the May half term.

Queenie24 · 20/04/2020 19:09

We are in Wales so I think different, my son was due to sit A levels and has been told that will not be happening and grades will be given on course work and predicted grades. Same with GCSE exams so here I don't think until September.

Pieceofpurplesky · 20/04/2020 19:10

@TiddlestheCat about 600 out of the 1200 of my school travel 20 minutes by train (public) and a large amount (3 double deckers) about 20 by school bus.

All squashed together

PrimalLass · 20/04/2020 19:10

@Letseatgrandma

The post you part-quoted did: This is because children tend not to travel far or on public transport (usually walk or school bus)
