Hi all. I just wanted to update as I think it’s important you know what it took for me to be taken seriously and get what I needed. Yesterday my husband rang on my behalf, as I could no longer talk as it set off awful coughing and I couldn’t breathe. He started with my local nurse, who then got a GP to call back. GP was very worried as my resting heart rate had been over 100 for about 6 days, and referred us back to 111. A nurse answered the phone for 111, so husband talked it all through with her too. She referred to a doctor, who called back about 6 hours later. The doctor referred to another doctor, who was a part of the “central COVID team”. This phone call came through at 9pm, first call was at 9am! She was amazing, really knew what she was talking about and was very thorough. If I hadn’t had an O2 % reader with me, I have no doubt one of the 5 people I spoke to would have insisted on an ambulance again which I really didn’t want. My oxygen levels are always over 90% so no ambulance crew would have taken me anywhere or done anything.
The Covid expert said it’s been nearly 4 weeks, I am coughing up blood now and coughing constantly, and it’s time to try antibiotics. She sent them to a pharmacy which was open until 10pm and near us, husband picked them up, and I took the first one at 10:30pm.
By 2am I felt like I could lay down for the first time in over a week without pain. I slept for 4 hours straight, in a comfy position instead of trying to stay upright. I have just got up and had a craving for some toast! I am still coughing constantly but I feel so much better, I can talk, I can breathe, I can walk! I most definitely had a secondary infection, and I wasn’t going to heal without these antibiotics.

DandyPeguin · 08/04/2020 07:07

Gawd Moo that sounds terrible, poor you. I’m glad you got through to someone, got ABs and now have some relief.

How long were you coughing continually and coughing up blood?

Did things get worse in your 3rd week?

simplekindoflife · 08/04/2020 07:12

I'm on day 12 (possibly longer). I had a good day yesterday. Still bad chest pain but I felt ok to go out and sit in the garden and do a few small things around the house.

After a terrible night the night before, I've had a good night's sleep. Woken up to chest pain, as usual, but I feel ok. Really hoping I'm on the mend now...

Lovelesslily · 08/04/2020 07:41

@MooPointCowsOpinion So pleased you got the antibiotics! Here's to a rapid improvement Flowers

@Taffyapple8 I hope you managed to get some sleep eventually.

I dropped off at around 11 and just woke up so first full nights sleep in a long time. Woken with random chest/back/side pains that seem to now be my constant companions but they aren't too bad.

Wishing everyone a positive day!

ineedsun · 08/04/2020 07:46

Thanks to those who replied to me. It certainly make me realise how lucky those of us who are well and who've had it 'mildly' are. Hope you all feel better soon BrewDaffodil

ChippedPotatoesLloyd · 08/04/2020 07:51

Really useful thread. Just wanted to add another experience for awareness, as I'm a bit further on than most (day 40). Much of what's been said resonates, but then slightly different later on. All the normal symptoms coming and going for first weeks. Chest pains from day 15 for a few days then stopped. Day 18 chest felt like it started working hard when resting. Sent to hospital. ECG, oxygen, x-ray all fine (good news!) Dr said description meant I "may well" have had it but too well to test at that point. Slowly recovered and felt back to normal by day 25. Totally fine for about 10 days, building up exercise etc then day 34 sore throat again and all old symptoms (cough, tight burning chest, chest pain) gradually returned over a few days. By day 38 pain in chest and shoulder so bad, worse than ever. Finally put on antibiotics. Starting to subside again. Optimistic these will kick it once and for all. Hopefully I'm an outlier but the more shared experiences, the better the picture for everyone.

TheDrsWife46 · 08/04/2020 07:57

Morning everyone. Sorry you’ve had a bad night @Taffyapple8, I was bad at bedtime and Dh sat with me as i tipped myself forward over pillows. Arched my chest/back so my bum was in the air and my face was crushed into the mattress. Woke up at 2am like it and he was gone but had left me the dog! (Shes not allowed upstairs on beds so I must be ill! We’ve been on the sofa previously)

Even though i took 2 kalms night time (you can take 4) i still kept waking through the night, I just fought to keep dozing. Dd1 woke me coughing and coughing at 6am. Oh and I was also woken at 3.30am by the dog going mental barking at a group of three people walking/talking under my window. I hope it wasnt idiots having been socialising!!

If I’m no better today Im going to call the GP even to get Dd some antibotics more than me. But ive had that many comments about “calm down” and “your anxiety wont help” im too embarrassed to call them again. @MooPointCowsOpinion so glad that you got some real help at last, Im so sad for us all at how many times we’ve all had to call and im sorry that it took your husband to push and push to get you heard.

I think it was @stayathomegardener who posted a snippet that germany have coronataxi’s to come and check on patients. We could all have used that. Can you imagine the knowledge of knowing someone in your area would be out regularly to check.

and @Taffyapple8 no news. Mute your whatsapp group. You cannot change whats happening outside. All you can do is manage your own health hour by hour and do not be afraid to call for help if you need it, @babdoc came back with a lovely account of hospital.

@DandyPeguin a little wave for you, sorry that you hd a dip again. Nice to know that you’re okay though x

Yes thanks for sharing Chipped. I think what’s important to remember is that the medical definition of ‘mild’ is not requiring hospital admission. As a category it seems very ‘how long is a piece of string’, with some people getting it very mildly and others probably better described as ‘moderate to severe’. But there is no defined moderate category. We’re all learning as we go along though.

ineedsun · 08/04/2020 08:05

Chipped - yes! That's me. I don't know day numbers, I'd have to go back and check the calendar but definite ongoing issues which I had been putting down to other things but certainly match what you're saying. I've just worked through it all because I am a lecturer for HCP and manage all the placements so I've been sorting them out so that they're safe but still progressing and we have enough people going out into practice. Now I'm thinking that I ought to make the most of the Easter break and rest instead of overcompensating for neglecting the teenage kids by entertaining them.

Flapjak · 08/04/2020 08:12

First post for a long time but thought I would add my experience.
symptomatic of a 'virus' march 11, but told it wasn't as did not have cough, symptoms slight raised temp, headache, chills, extreme fatigue , no appetite, illish for 2 / 3 days then improved but developed chest tightness and few days later chesty cough, and intermittent periods of vomiting when coughing. These symptoms waxed and waned, but were tolerable till week 3, then started shortness of breath, thought it was chest infection so convinced gp to prescribe antibiotics, no improvement and worsened last week, unable to eat, get out of bed, vomiting, extreme brain fog and have lost 11 lbs now. GP prescribed stronger dose of antibiotics and thinks it could a secondary infection to covid, which I probably did have march 11. I do wonder if it is another infection or if this is just covid ? Finally feeling better yesterday anyway, and hopefully this the last of it. But I am frustrated by the lack of testing, that if you have symptoms longer than a week or two there seems to be a lack of advice about what is happening and whether you are still 'infectious', especially if you dont have the high temp or a new cough.

Porcupineinwaiting · 08/04/2020 08:22

Morning all

Day 21 here. Another "bad," day, worse than the last bad day but nothing like as bad as a week ago. Still feel I am on the mend but think it will be another week or so before I am actually over it.

Hang on I there everyone.

pinkoneblueone · 08/04/2020 08:37

Day 30. Just had to jump out of bed suddenly as a friend had dropped off things for us on the door step. I had to take gavisgon to settle my sore insides to get some sleep. I have woken with a sore throat and diarrhoea. I am hoping my antibiotics are helping shift an infection and that this is me on the mend, wishful thinking I think. My tummy is feeling pretty unsettled so who knows. I will update later as I am going to try and get a little more sleep if I can. I am sorry many of you are having bad nights it seems to be that way for most of us I have started keeping the tv on all night as background music which helps.

stayathomegardener · 08/04/2020 08:43

@ChippedPotatoesLloyd that's my exact concern that it's going to keep coming back. Day 28 I'm doing well chest pain/burning/tightness has been gone for four days but I'm clearly still unwell with odd symptoms, terrible sleep and crazy fatigue being the worst.

Keepdistance · 08/04/2020 08:46

Feeling rough today like im going to have d&v.
No idea what day as i was ill already but new sore throat on sat (i think) as did dp.
Dp has had a very nasty cough and hes woken to a headache (he gets migraines).
I feel like i have chills, but it is a lot cooler today.

Goatymcgoaty · 08/04/2020 08:50

@ChippedpotatoesLloyd I had terrible neck and shoulder pain too. Both sides but one worse than the other. Along with a crazy sore throat, lump feeling and rattly windpipe. This virus presents in so many subtle ways.

stayathomegardener · 08/04/2020 08:56

I'm getting quite frustrated reading this thread (in a good way because I care)
SO FIRST TIME EVER ON MUMSNET IM SHOUTING.

Are all of you with ongoing symptoms looking at the vitamin c regime?

Anyone with tight burning lungs/upper back pain have you looked at the lugols 15% iodine results and ordered a nebuliser?

Those with broken sleep have you considered asking your GP for melatonin?

Obviously I'm not qualified in anyway and you should make your own judgements but I'm lucky enough to have access to one of the best ecological medical experts in the country.

And certainly the iodine in a salt pipe and then a nebuliser shifter the lung stuff after 24 days.

The three interventions above are very unlikely to cause you harm and right now could prevent long term damage or save your life

If anyone remembers Muriel from the last threads I'm going to start treating her with the above as she's still not improving much on day 35.

I can post the videos again if anyone is interested.

user34254356 · 08/04/2020 08:59

Does anyone still have nausea at Day 22? I still don't feel hungry. There were a few days when I was feeling I had turned the tide on nausea but it's back.

Porcupineinwaiting · 08/04/2020 09:05

@stayathomegardener

Well sort of. High dose vitamin c every day, though not the bowel dose you talked about. Also day vit d and multivit for zinc

Now using a salt/iodine pot (and have the stains to prove it, bloody stuff gets everywhere).

Will do the iodine/nebulizer thing if chest gets worse again.

For me I think that the biggest helps are doing the breathing/lung clearing thing twice a day (iodine is part of this) and the antibiotics.

Lightsabre · 08/04/2020 09:05

Have woken up (Day 12) feeling floppy and nauseous with tight chest and painful back. It's so debilitating as I was able to make breakfast yesterday and felt a little stronger but no chance this morning. Feel so weak again- like I'm wasting away. I'm going to call my GP as I'm anxious but is there anything they can do? Wish I could get a chest X-ray and an ECG to rule out anything more sinister. Would a private hospital do this? Getting desperate now.

Lightsabre · 08/04/2020 09:08

Taking Vit C and Vitamin D.

stayathomegardener · 08/04/2020 09:08

@Porcupineinwaiting so glad that's helping,, I found the Queens breathing video from the same consultant too.

stayathomegardener · 08/04/2020 09:10

@Lightsabre 👍 maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily and people are doing all the stuff and still feel terrible.

MozFan · 08/04/2020 09:16

Hi,
Can I please join this thread?

I honestly think I had it about 3 weeks ago, as did my 17 month old DS.

I had body aches, a slightly raised temperature, chills and a very sore throat for two days and then a cough developed, which I still have 3 weeks later, I also had rattling when I breathed. My chest was tight also. I still have some rib and shoulder/back pain intermittently along with a cough.
My DS had a cough so bad it made him throw up and he had a slightly raised temp. He was very sleepy and off his food. He’s much better now.
My DP had a very slight cough, but he had diarrhoea for 3 days before either mine or DS symptoms started.
I’m still going to act as though I haven’t had it, but I’m convinced I did.

I later found out a friend I’d seen a few days before my symptoms started had a tight chest, a bad headache and a temperature. A couple of other people I know had similar symptoms too, including loss of taste and smell.

MozFan · 08/04/2020 09:17

Oh and my poor 17 month old also burst a blood vessel in his eye from coughing Sad
