Are the clothing sections of supermarkets open?

I haven't been to a supermarket for a month. I need a few essentials, and randomly one child has got holes in socks every day for about 2 weeks. Just debating whether to get the essentials from the local shop or travel to the supermarket and get socks while I'm there. I had read that sone non essential parts of shops were closing.

Everything still available in supermarkets near me. Lovely quiet browsing with fully stocked clothing racks as well!

Our local Asda have the George department open. I got dc some he's pj's the other day

Yep; open here. Argos is open in our Sainsbury’s, too.

Oh great, thank you. I feel curiously apprehensive tbh, I have been off work, at home with the children, living rurally, and have seen no one.

Morrison's clothes was open last week and had 25% off everything. It would have been difficult to browse though as they had the checkout queue snaking around the clothes department.

Sainsburys don’t seem to have closed off their non food areas. Marks and Spencer’s have sectioned off their store with access only to the food hall and a small selection of essentials ( baby stuff, pants socks pJs etc for all ages- and order collections. So I think you can probably buy children’s socks.

Following as toddler has outgrown his shoes and a trip to Clark's doesn't look likely for sometime. Good to know I can pick up an emergency pair tomorrow as I'd assumed they would be closed!

Our local Sainsbury's clothing section is open and the Argos (but Argos you must pay when you order rather than in store)

Yes I had to gets some shorts and T-shirt's as 5 yr old DD has grown like a weed in the last couple of months and her summer stuff from last year looks like crop tops and booty shorts now. Fine around the house but we're trying to take her for daily walks to the park and she needs something a little less revealing Grin

It’s really not the time for quiet browsing in the clothing aisles. Grab them what you need quick, especially if there’s a queue outside waiting for someone to leave so they can enter.
Also the longer you stay in there the more chance there is if catching something or passing it on.

Those poor retail workers want you in and out and only for essential food and medicines. Not browsing the clothing section. Ffs

Agree that the clothes section shouldn't be for browsing but some people need essential clothes for their children too.

At no point did I say I was going to be browsing the clothing section. I asked if they were open as I need children's socks, and I won't bother going to a supermarket if they are not open.

I imagine non essential lines will just be restocked less. Superdrug have signs up saying that the non essential items they sell such as make up etc are still available to buy but stocks wint be replenished until the crisis passes.

Could you not mend the socks for now?

Some supermarkets have closed off everything but the food halls . Others haven't. Poor retail workers

The big tesco near me still has its own brand clothing section open but Evans and Dorothy Perkins are fenced off, even though it's all in the same giant room.

@Flaxmeadow I have do e with the smaller holes, but some have had entire big toes poking out, and I don't have the skills for that I'm sad to say. I am only throwing the holey ones away, so there are a lot of odd sock combos going on. The boy has grown and is the oldest, and has about 4 pairs remaining as of today. Younger child has loads but they are just too small.

People need to get clothing from somewhere given that actual clothing stores are closed.

I'm not traipsing around browsing for anything but I would use the supermarket for clothes shopping if I had to - especially for DS.

Odd socks are fine OP. And we have been in this situation only one week at the moment. No 12 month old children have no clothes whatsoever that fit after a week.

The rules on when you can and can't leave your home are clear. And clothes shopping isn't one of them.

Get a grip. I've come from a thread where the OP lost her husband to this yesterday and another from a retail worker both begging people to act responsibly and take notice. And then come back here to read this....
