Is Chris Whitty ok?

Just that.

I've googled and found nothing.

Hope he's ok

He strikes me as a lovely, normal man, suddenly thrust into the limelight and now facing this awful illness.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Chris Whitty.

He was photographed on Boris's Zoom call the other day; I was very relieved to see him there.

hazandduck · 02/04/2020 18:39

I agree, really hope he recovers soon. It makes me feel sick to think he may read some of the vile bullying remarks people have made on his appearance, something completely out of his control. He comes across as a very gentle and decent person. People are arseholes sometimes.

Womenwotlunch · 02/04/2020 18:40

People can be callous and cruel. He seems like an accomplished man, but more importantly a wonderful human being.
His American counterpart, Dr Anthony Fauci has received threats. Apparently, he has had to have security

Tennistime · 02/04/2020 18:40

He’s the best of British is Prof. Chris.

balonzz · 02/04/2020 18:48

I was also impressed with him. He exudes quiet integrity.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/04/2020 18:48

I find him very reassuring
I have often wished that he was in charge rather than Boris!

Same here.

When he was first on our screens he looked very rabbit-in-the-headlights", but as he got used to it he gained confidence and comes across very well.

I pity him having to work with that self-serving clown.

StSaulOfSnacks · 02/04/2020 18:54

I'm very impressed by him. Hope he's back soon.

DishingOutDone · 02/04/2020 18:54

For those asking me how I know:

@Catzpyjamas gave a link to a Chris Witty twitter account but that is an HM Gov account, all Ministers, Officers etc (senior public servants) like that will have in-house digital media officers - PRs if you like - to write and post their tweets. I sort of thought that would be common knowledge? But I specifically know as I know someone who is employed to do that.

I don't have any inside tips BTW. Its not an AMA. Wink

coachman · 02/04/2020 18:57

I'm very impressed with him. He comes across as calm, competent, knowledgeable and caring.

Roostersmum2 · 02/04/2020 18:58

I wasn't aware he was unwell, I'm so disappointed to hear this. My household is wishing him a speedy recovery, we love Chris whitty in here

mummytippy · 02/04/2020 18:59

I read on Face Book he'd been trolled and I find that utterly disgusting.
Why why why?!
I really do wonder about the people that we usually walk down the street with... he's just a man doing an incredibly difficult job and a difficult time and he's now ill too.
Speedy recovery wished Mr Witty, there need to be more people like you on this Earth, never mind this Country!

I hope @Mumsnet can pass on our good wishes to him Flowers

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/04/2020 18:59

I’ve been thinking the same. I feel more comfortable when he’s there. He’s exactly who you need in this crisis.

Although I was pleased to see Matt Hancock back. He works with my SIL and is a really good chap by all accounts.

Lisette1940 · 02/04/2020 19:06

Hope he's feeling much better.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 02/04/2020 19:10

Maybe we could have him on for a webchat? with a swipe right facility

MeganBacon · 02/04/2020 19:16

I also think he's a top bloke, think we are lucky to have him and I wish him a speedy recovery.

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 02/04/2020 19:19

I reported disgusting posts on Facebook but they said they didn’t violate their rules. I feel sickened by people.

Fudgecakes · 02/04/2020 19:21

I love Prof Whitty too 😍....i've missed his reassuring presence. Disgusted to learn he's been targeted on 'social' media....poor guy...shocking they're mocking the man who is giving his all to protect and save their sorry arses. Hoping he's far too intelligent and robust to let it upset him. Have a hug from me, Chris!

ozymandiusking · 02/04/2020 19:23

These people are doing their best in an awful situation. I'm pleased that Chris Whitty has recovered and I hope Boris Johnson is well on his way to recovery as well.
I think it is absolutely appalling that so called trolls can attack them.
Whatever happened to be kind to our fellow human beings
I wonder how most of is would manage if we were in charge.

Angelw · 02/04/2020 19:29

He is a likeable and sensible being. Hope he’s okFlowers

Hopeisnotastrategy · 02/04/2020 19:29

Some people would troll Mother Teresa if they got the chance.

💕 Professor Chris Whitty. 💕

onedayallthiswillbeyours · 02/04/2020 19:33

Get well soon Professor Whitty. We need to hear your calm and reassuring voice again soon. Much admired in this household.

Catsrus · 02/04/2020 19:33

my friend is a researcher in the NHS, she really rates him and I trust her judgment. Hope he's back soon, though yes, I like Jenny Harries a lot too, sensible and plain speaking.

SugarSugarShimmy · 02/04/2020 19:36

I would think Chris Whitty wouldn’t give a flying fuck about some idiots on social media. He is above that.

Get better soon!

cuparfull · 02/04/2020 19:38

I did really like Chris Whitty too but am really disheartened by some of what's been happening and wonder should he not have had more of a handle on several things....
The health & safety of our healthcare workers is severely compromised.

1/Why did nobody coordinate our laboratory resources to facilitate faster testing instead of shutting them down and furloughing workers.
2/Why did nobody use furloughed manufacturing capacity to make masks?
3/Why is it that uniform /'scrubs supplier Alexandra (who usually source abroad) have to approach UK clothes manufacturers themselves to make scrubs urgently. The government didn't do it.

There is an obvious lack of planning....or thinking "Outside the Box"
Brits are resourceful, we could have geared up much faster had some direction been given.

cuparfull · 02/04/2020 19:41

However I wish him well... I don't think the public will ever get honest answers to this tho. Hmm
