Could this be the end of the Royal family?

I don't mean if they die of the virus...

But there's nothing like a lockdown to really highlight inequality. I saw an article yesterday about Kate + William "isolating" at Anmer Hall, having done a photoshoot where they pretend to be on the telephone and writing ("working").

I think if people are going to have to spend months at home, in small flats with kids, still going out to work or trying to WFH, queueing for supermarkets with empty shelves......that could definitely breed some discontent. Or if people catch it and have to be treated in makeshift hospitals, not getting an ambulance until they're struggling to breathe, while the RF can be whisked away to a private hospital for treatment. I've already seen a lot of comments along the lines of "why don't they offer up their many palaces to be used as hospitals, rather than doing newspaper articles".

Opinions?

Sadly, our spare has buggered off to the USA.

There are still quite a few spares to go round. Excluding William's children who are minors, we have Beatrice, Eugenie, Prince Edward, Princess Anne.....

BTW has anyone heard whether she has cleared off to a second home?

Brookeinabook · 30/03/2020 17:21

Harry and Megan. They were already unpopular in the UK as it was

They were my favourite ones!

unhappyclap · 30/03/2020 17:23

I really hope so, cannot stand them and feel they are pointless. This crisis just highlights that

Brookeinabook · 30/03/2020 17:24

All the Queen has is her two favourite staff plus a chef a footman and a housemaid. So just a skeleton staff according to media. This did make me wonder what the non skeleton staff looks like Hmm

Wolfgirrl · 30/03/2020 17:25

@Freshairimportanttoo

I hate to burst your Charles bubble but he chose to fly to his country home in Scotland (so sharing a small confined space with security, the pilot etc) when he ALREADY had coronavirus symptoms. Despite public advice NOT to go to country homes and take the illness to overwhelmed rural hospitals.

One rule for them, another for us.

And you're right about William. He got 'caught' laughing about coronavirus but imagine the jokes he makes behind closed doors?

If you believe in a society that supports equality and diversity (some of which is enshrined in law), the Royal Family and occupying high office simply by virtue of birth is the absolute anti-thesis of that.

There has been a huge shift in that idea over the Queen's life.

The vast majority of the public have positive feelings towards the Queen because of her obvious commitment to public service -, even basic anti-royalists will tolerate her.

I think after her death this issue will become more acute and things like the behaviour of sulky privilieged Harry and his wife who resented they couldn't cash in so exited to do so and posting of our isolatino in the rarified surroundings of Anmer Hall or whatever it's called really won't help.

Wolfgirrl · 30/03/2020 17:40

I didnt like Harry and Megs either. It's like they were as hypocritical and greedy as the rest of the royals but not quite bright enough to hide it.

The 300k wedding dress, private jets, exploiting their connections holidaying with Elton John etc, their obsession with withholding trivial information (such as godparents) as part of a weird power play...

However now they have chosen to bugger off and fund themselves (albeit through their exploited connections) I dont feel I can continue to comment on them.

MsTSwift · 30/03/2020 17:43

Totally agree Op. They are a pointless embarrassing anachronism

BeijingBikini · 30/03/2020 17:57

The 300k wedding dress

I doubt Kate's was £500 in the sample sale.....

I think the entire family are completely pointless and at odds with a democratic society where success is meant to be based on merit (I know we are VERY far from that being the case, but the Royals are the first glaring obvious case)

I like the royal family but I thought those photos were in poor taste.

Wolfgirrl · 30/03/2020 18:54

Anyone notice how it's all gone a bit quiet with the royalists in the group Hmm

Could be the cynic in me but it came just after they realised the queen doesnt own the crown estate 😂😂

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 30/03/2020 18:59

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been in regular contact with organisations and patronages to understand the issues they are facing during this difficult time

And no doubt wasting their time with pointless nonsense when they have more pressing needs - like presumably trying to find another source of funding.

it requires dressing in suit for a phone call , full make-up and a photo shoot

Probably why she can only make one call a day. She also needs to practice how to sit at a desk. Anyone would think she hasn't had any experience in the world of work.....

SharonasCorona · 30/03/2020 19:10

I wish I could work like that, no laptop, no files on Will's desk and only one leather bound folder on Kate's.

Not sure how anyone office-based people can work without email these days.

Escapeistheonlyoption · 30/03/2020 19:14

You are saying that working part time as an accessories buyer for a company owned by a family friend isn't a job? Surely not?

definitelygc · 30/03/2020 19:18

Can you imagine being the CEO of a mental health charity during a major pandemic and hearing "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would like to ring you and discuss the issues you are facing at this difficult time".

Are they going to give us funding? ...nope.
They're just ringing for a chat? ...yep.
Well bugger me, thank god for that. How will we ever thank them.

BarleylemonPenguin · 30/03/2020 19:24

Kate and William get nothing from it. They are living off money from Williams mothers family the Spencer’s and Kate’s family the Middletons

It’s actually the other way round. Taxpayers, via Prince Charles, support W&K. Diana’s brother inherited everything from the Spencers. The women did not. Diana got money through her divorce from taxpayers, via Prince Charles. The Middletons were helped with ‘security modernisation’ of their house by the taxpayers via William, which they then promptly sold in order to buy their current country pile.

Not at all, they used to be very popular with the majority but that was before all the hypocrisy, mind games and preaching came into play.

Zilla1 · 30/03/2020 19:30

Steady on Sharonas, I expect that, if necessary, HRH's personal protection officers and the relevant part of the Met Police? would consult their diaries then be in a position to refute all the lies that have been said about his actions, locations/wherabouts and so on in all the unfair allegations that have been made........

SharonasCorona · 30/03/2020 19:32

@Zilla1

The establishment will protect him regardless, @Zilla1. I'm afraid I found your view quite naïve. I believe Ms Giufre.

Zilla1 · 30/03/2020 19:53

Sorry, Sharonas, sometimes it easier not to notice the absence of something than it is to miss something that is visible. I'm surprised there's not been more discussion about the 'radio silence' by the Protection Command officers/hierarchy concerning something about which there would normally be detailed records.

Regarding your second point, normally the establishment would protect someone as you say. Unless they reach the point when it serves them better to cut someone off or for someone to be 'retired' to 'protect the family firm'.

Escapeistheonlyoption · 30/03/2020 20:20

I thought that William lowned them cash for their current home as well?

Escapeistheonlyoption · 30/03/2020 20:20

Or even loaned
