Did China lie?

User1775564212 · 29/03/2020 20:16

I was vaguely suspicious of the Chinese governments figures at the start of the outbreak although towards the end began to have more faith that the government were being honest.

Michael Gove’s comments along with the alarming stats from ours and other countries (numbers, ages, health conditions etc) are making wonder whether the Chinese government covered up a fair bit and I’m worried about where this leaves countries around the world... Talk me down...

Every province in China has had cases. It was not limited to Hubei.
How are they stopping reinfections from outside?
Ask my dh he got taken from the airport to a processing unit and was given a hazmat suit to wear. He is now in a quarantine facility for 14 days.
That’s how.
And they shut the border to foreigners yesterday.

Also wondering about those preliminary reports around lung, heart and kidney damage

Just wondering what you mean by this. Just interested really.

Return to the question about did China lie. Well, I see the reaction from the Chinese government in 2 line, on the scientist's side, they had acted fast, made the DNA sequencing very fast this time, and alerted the WHO very earlier on the beginning of the January. As I mentioned, the serious cases hit hospital was in December, although it started in November, it dint' get people's attention. They published report of the first hundred cases very fast. You can get all these information from WHO easily.

The other line, to the local public. They tried to contain the news , as it was Chinese new year, I think local government wanted a good show, they allowed lots of big events on which was a big mistake. Then situation got worse quickly in hospital, the government now found out this virus was very hard to be contained and can cause serious damage, so they did a strict lock down on Wuhan. I think this was a quick and correct reaction, although lots of people are still questioning it.

For the figure from China, I think it is hard to say how many actually got it, as so many had it without symptoms, you can only know by testing everyone, which is impossible. But I think the current low case situation should be true , as in most places , people started to work and social again.

PicsInRed · 29/03/2020 21:32

Have they fucked up though?

Yes.
China owns a huge amount of western debt and relies on western consumerism for their economic prosperity every bit as much as we do, perhaps more so.

If this gives the West the excuse we are, frankly, gagging for not to pay it back and to bring industry home, they're a bit fucked.

I'd be pretty surprised if this was intentional. They were still positioning their chess pieces, and weren't quite ready to make their move yet.

This timing hurts their long term strategic goals terribly.

PicsInRed · 29/03/2020 21:35

Just wondering what you mean by this. Just interested really.

The questions I have are:
How serious is the long term physical damage to the bodies of survivors who were very ill?

Will these people "recover", as we ordinarily know the word to mean, or will they be partially even profoundly disabled and/or life limited?

ShanghaiDiva · 29/03/2020 21:36

Yes, they are still developing the home market. Shiny shanghai is very different to the west of China.
They still need that western market.

Alpha that is certainly a report to be read with tin foil on your head!
Interesting though!

Fedupandpoor · 29/03/2020 21:40

Of course China lied, they didn't tell anyone about the seriousness of Corona until they absolutely had to.

I love a conspiracy theory, but as pp have said it has not benefitted them in any major way so they have seriously shot themselves in the foot if it was intentional. Viruses jump from animals to humans all the time. Spanish flu, bubonic plague, ebola, etc.

BelleHathor · 29/03/2020 21:41

The video is about Chinese backed companies were sending millions of pieces of medical equipment to China from the west at a time when everyone was downplaying the severity of Covid19. They knew, the WHO was incompetent, many deaths could have been prevented.

littlebitwooway · 29/03/2020 21:44

@PicsInRed Loss of 20-30% lung function. You would no longer be able to sprint. Your fitness would have a limit. It might shorten your life as we all lose lung function every year as we age, your tank would have less in it, so more vulnerable in later life to pneumonia etc.

StirCrazed · 29/03/2020 21:48

We in the West owe them a fortune. Handy excuse not to pay it back as some kind of reparations? Or worse .. the USA likes to fight its way out of economic problems.

PicsInRed · 29/03/2020 21:49

Yes, that is the early information. Would be interested to see how those previously young and healthy emerge from this. And, again, the organ damage is of great concern.

PicsInRed · 29/03/2020 21:49

As are early queries around male infertility.

ADreamOfGood · 29/03/2020 21:58

@coconuttelegraph the UK is not testing enough people. The death rate looks horrific, but I think that's largely down to a lack of testing of people with symptoms and those without. Lots of people with milder symptoms are being told to test at home and get better, but not being tested (this happened in the swine flu outbreak 10 years ago too).
I'm not sure any country is managing to test a reasonable amount of people tbh.

Also, deaths are not being recorded as covid-19, even when that has been likely the cause. The very young woman that died was recorded as a heart attack (Chloe Middleton), for example. There have been reports that the reason Germany's death rate is so low is because those deaths are being recorded as dying from their underlying condition.

Longdistance · 29/03/2020 22:03

Well, they did relax the one chid rule 🤔

I think they lied through their teeth on this one. It got out of control.

Dongdingdong · 29/03/2020 22:05

How are they going to stop it from getting to the rest of China?

Simple - deny, cover up, deny. Bingo, no virus!

Postspecific · 29/03/2020 22:10

Just a thought...

Maybe the lab is where it is because of the proximity to bat species that often have coronaviruses.

NorfieGirl · 29/03/2020 22:11

There are beginning to be reports about the real number of deaths now the ashes from cremations have started to be released to families, reporting to be nearer 45,000 than the roughly 3,500 they declared.

The news website Caixin.com says that 5,000 urns had been delivered to the Hankou Funeral Home in one day and that's more than the official number of total deaths, and that's only one funeral home in the area.

They've seriously lied about their deaths, on a large scale.

Maybe the lab is where it is because of the proximity to bat species that often have coronaviruses.

A report released by Chinese scientists conceded that these particular bats were neither sold at the wet market nor do they live anywhere nearby.

IrishMamaMia · 29/03/2020 22:21

We (the collective west) could have quarantined and restricted all travel from China when footage emerged of Chinese authorities sealing up Wuhan. We could have tried to slow it and prepare the health system since January. There's been worried mumsnet threads since early February and people returning form half-term in Italy should also have been quarantined.
The response by our governments has been piss poor really.

fififorgetmenotforgot68 · 29/03/2020 22:25

I believe its a bio-weapon...It's been released on purpose or via an accident...Don't forget most Chinese go home for their New Year celebrations ...Only to come back home after the event, spreading the disease here, there and everywhere ! It's here to serve 2 purposes....(1) kill the old...( 2) To crash the economy x

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 29/03/2020 22:30

Well they certainly tries to shut the whistle blower Dr who died down. He probably wasn't the only one.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/03/2020 22:48

They knew. They told us. We didn't listen.
