I only went on to pay my account and the message says closed

Don't blame themes it seems staff have requested closure, they have listened

hope it doesn't leave them into administration when we are through this though.

Yeah, awful having a job. Terrible idea.

Lynda07 · 26/03/2020 23:12

You can access your account to pay your bill after 3pm tomorrow, I just looked after having had a text today to say my payment was due. Your thread prompted me to try and do it now. Tomorrow is OK surely? We just can't order anything for now.

Bowerbird5 · 26/03/2020 23:17

I had an email from Lakeland to say it was closed. I was wishing I had order a bread maker. We have no bread after tomorrow. I haven’t got any yeast and I have arthritis in my wrists. I might have to teach DH and try and get someone to get some yeast if out.
I felt guilty about the towel radiator arriving the other day because the lad delivering must wish he could be at home.
I don’t think people should be ordering online unless necessary.

Not being able to get something on your birthday - just remember why this is happening lots and lots of people will never have another birthday!

Mysocalledlifexx · 26/03/2020 23:17

I think they will open once lockdown is over. Its where i get all my baby clothes from ,im lucky i got delivery last week, waiting on sale items.
Staff safety has to come first.

Scruffyoak · 26/03/2020 23:18

I needed work trousers as I am.now changing immediately upon return home and having less time to wash and dry. I know next petite fit me plus I needed the credit option. Not all of us are buying clothes for fun.

user1490043295 · 26/03/2020 23:18

What happens with returns? I was going to arrange return for online stuff tommorow

mrsradley · 26/03/2020 23:25

I'd ordered and was due to get my items - they have debited my account. ?

Will I get my things?

Bluebelle32 · 26/03/2020 23:27

I feel so guilty, I recently placed an online order with a different retailer and it’s not essential stuff. I had been going back and forth on it but regret my decision now. Worried the postie will hate me as I’ve been having things delivered often for more than a month since I’ve been sick.

Mrskeats · 26/03/2020 23:35

Good. Brexit supporting and forcing people into work. Terrible company.

pinkazing · 26/03/2020 23:40

@Pishposhpashy did yours say they do get it out to you in the next few days or just that it was delayed?

lyralalala · 26/03/2020 23:41

I think very quickly the supermarkets and small food shops will be the only places left open.

I'm glad in a way, one the of the teens in my house works in the warehouse arm of a shop that was praised for closing and the conditions are so shit I've been trying to persuade him to quit. It's just not worth it for things that people do not need right now just because they are bored.

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 26/03/2020 23:46

@Megan2018 I had an email yesterday saying they'll add on extra delivery pass time in accordance with how much free delivery time is given to everyone so that it's fair to those of us who pay the fee for the annual delivery. They said it would take some time to implement and add to the account.

Enko · 26/03/2020 23:47

@ssd
My friend works in John Lewis, she now has to work in waitrose. She's suddenly a key worker and terrified of catching the virus. Awful.

You do realise that JohnLewis and Waitrose are the same company do you not? Far more sense for them to send their partners to support each other than to send some home on full pay and expect others to pick up the slack, then employ new temporary people because one half of the company can not full fill current demand.

& meanwhile they have just this week been paid their bonus for being. Partners.

I can't actually get my head around some/ most of the posts fuck me next has closed .... I can't get baby clothes ... I ordered something in the sale.... I don't care if I get banned ... you selfish bunch of twats!!! Today I left home at 6.30 ... leaving my two children at home, both old enough to be left before you start!! 14hrs later... I was home to them...going straight up stairs into the shower, trying not to touch the hand rail as I went ... shattered physically and emotionally...... this morning I arrived to my senior sister in tears because we had a C19 patient confirmed... we have no eye protection, out pandemic order could not be completed....we managed to get a school to deliver their science goggles so we could at least be as safe as possible ....her husband could not be with her... I don't need to go into details but what I can say is this .... do you actually realise what a bunch of pricks you are! I hope next are able to be up and running soon so you get your orders and I also hope that myself and my colleagues will have the luxury one day to worry if we will receive our sales order but for now we worry if our PPE will come tomorrow.

Marmite27 · 26/03/2020 23:52

@banjaxxed my brothers worked there to put themselves through uni.

It’s a few years ago now, but one of them got heatstroke from being inside the warehouse all day.

The current situation is bad because a) no chairs inside - all taken away. Not just in break areas but any that we’re in the warehouse it’s self. Staff are sat on the floor on the street taking their meal breaks. B) no sanitising products. Equipment (scanners, box cutters, vehicles etc) being passed from person to person without being cleaned. C) unable to stick to the 2m social distancing rule. D) lots of staff using overcrowded public transport to get to work.

Lots of staff agency, next permanent have been told full basic pay until 11th April, 80% government backed after that. Who knows what agency will get, depends on their company I suppose.

I don’t live near there anymore, but retain ties to the area, and friends who work or family members work there. It’s a massive employer in that area.

ClientQueen · 26/03/2020 23:57

@Bowerbird5 Jamie Oliver posted a soda bread recipe with no yeast and little kneading if it's any help?

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 27/03/2020 00:15

who routinely buys baby clothes from next at their prices? for a treat or a present yes, but day to day stuff from a supermarket surely?

Plenty of people. People have different budgets, you know - people buy baby clothes from M&S, John Lewis and lots of other places that aren't supermarkets.

ssd · 27/03/2020 00:18

@Enko, my friend didn't expect to be working in a supermarket in a viral pandemic. She has worked in the home furnishings dept for years and suddenly she's a key worker in a supermarket.

ssd · 27/03/2020 00:21

And I haven't a clue about any bonuses, we don't discuss pay. All I know is she loves her job but didn't ever expect to be at a waitrose store, now of all times.

Monstercruch · 27/03/2020 06:14

I never buy supermarket clothes. Horrible styles, horrible quality. Not everyone wants to buy supermarket clothes you know.

Flibbitygibbit · 27/03/2020 06:40

@Demidrift look at Asos tall range...they're fab. Next account system is back this evening at 19:00 hrs. It's a wise decision for us all, they will be back .

PinkJam · 27/03/2020 09:12

I think morally they’ve obviously done the right thing in closing as their staff didn’t feel comfortable going into work.

But aren’t the staff worried Next won’t have enough cash reserves and therefore they will all lose their jobs? I would rather go into work than risk no income long term.

I think that most people who would have kept using Next online would have been buying baby and children’s clothes. The supermarkets near me have either stopped stocking clothes or have blocked off that part of the store. So can’t buy baby clothes from supermarket. And I think other online retailers might follow Next now and so where will people get Baby clothes from?

lyralalala · 27/03/2020 09:45

@pinkjam You can buy clothes from the supermarkets online. They’re only blocked off in stores because of the stupid behaviour of people over the last week or two.

I never buy supermarket clothes. Horrible styles, horrible quality. Not everyone wants to buy supermarket clothes you know.

I’m not a big fan either, they tend to assume you can only be tall and fat so never fit me right, but since there is a global pandemic on I’ll just have to deal with the fact that if I need something new desperately it might not be perfect at the moment style or fit wise

Hardly the greatest sacrifice of the times

Scruffyoak · 27/03/2020 09:47

Someone laughed at me a month ago when I posted that I had a stash of next size clothes and underwear for kids and some stuff for me......in glad I did.

PinkJam · 27/03/2020 10:07

@lyralalala Thank you, I will take a look today. I did look earlier this week but couldn’t find many in newborn or 0-3 months.
