I only went on to pay my account and the message says closed

Don't blame themes it seems staff have requested closure, they have listened

hope it doesn't leave them into administration when we are through this though.

So baby clothes aren’t essential?

No. Surely baby has enough clothes to wear for a few weeks?

thecatneuterer · 26/03/2020 21:45

I've had emails from TK Maxx and River Island today saying that their online stores are also closing.

EnglishRain · 26/03/2020 21:47

I posted £200 of goods back Sunday. I hope they have received and done something with them Sad

TrainspottingWelsh · 26/03/2020 21:50

Selfish bastard staff. Ok they probably can't work and stay at a safe distance from each other, maybe they use crowded public transport to commute. But that's nothing compared to the essential need for people safely sat at home to buy clothes online.

itsgettingweird · 26/03/2020 21:50

Glad to see that they acting responsibly towards staff.

I expect the furlough payments have encouraged a number of places to reconsider.

Interesting though that the government are actively encouraging online ordering. Especially when there are reports about the virus living on cardboard.

I was surprised to find ikea are still delivering - I was just browsing the website as lobe the room ideas. (Never actually do anything about it though!)

Lycidas · 26/03/2020 21:55

@eaglejulesk

A) Have you had a baby? Do you know that they can outgrow clothes overnight?
B) What makes you think this will only last a few weeks?

NemophilistRebel · 26/03/2020 21:55

@eaglejulesk what clothes can a newborn wear ? They aren’t born with clothes!

I’m due in 8 weeks, I have no clothes

I had been waiting for pay day before I bought the basics and was then going to wait until after baby was born to then buy more.

waterbottle12 · 26/03/2020 21:56

who routinely buys baby clothes from next at their prices? for a treat or a present yes, but day to day stuff from a supermarket surely?

Roweeeeena · 26/03/2020 21:57

It's really not an issue in the grand scheme of things. A gift card will be valid for a while yet so can be used for larger sizes when things are open again. If you really can't afford anything from any other shop you could post on one of the Facebook support groups to see if people can get stuff together to help you. You'd have to get it dropped at your door and put it straight in the wash I guess.
We have a baby due in 3 weeks and I was keen to get some lovely bits I've seen on Next online but it's not important. A few sleepsuits from elsewhere will be fine.

Ribenaberriesgowoo82 · 26/03/2020 21:59

I received my order from George at Asda today. I ordered some beautiful baby basics and was reasonably priced too. Quick delivery also.

eaglejulesk · 26/03/2020 21:59

@Lycidas - no I don't have a baby, but do know they grow quickly. However maybe you could have been prepared, surely you knew some time ago that something like this could happen??? So many people these days seem to have their heads in the sand.

Read the post above by @TrainspottingWelsh and stop and think

NemophilistRebel · 26/03/2020 22:01

@Ribenaberriesgowoo82 thanks for the recommendation

Will take a look

randomsabreuse · 26/03/2020 22:01

Some people might not have bought baby clothes in advance of baby's arrival - maybe planned hand me downs sat at relative's house, taken the advice that they'd get so many gifts for newborn size, of figured they'd sort it when they started mat leave... We're so used to Amazon Prime and next day delivery that 'just in time' is as much a part of domestic life as it is of commercial supply chains!

Maybe try George as they deliver separately to the food shopping...

I'd've been screwed if DD had arrived at the moment - was very dainty and all the newborn clothes swamped her, plus we bought tonnes of things from Prime (extra Moses basket sheets because we got through about 6 a day, breast pump etc).

I get why they're shut but it's a massive culture shock, and rural supermarkets only really sell food, toiletries and occasional socks/pants! I'm in a 15k inhabitant market town and Aldi centre aisle is my most likely place for me to buy clothes!

RedLemon · 26/03/2020 22:04

Just FYI I’m in Ireland and next.ie is still operating. Not sure if they ship to UK but might be worth a look for those looking for baby clothes.

SkinnywannabeKBH · 26/03/2020 22:04

Seriously???? Are you actually being serious? So you would rather see the poor staff putting themselves in danger just so you can buy a new pair of jeans to sit in the bloody house? Wise up!!!!!
My Mum works in a Next store and even though they were told on Tuesday that the store was closing they were then told on Wednesday that they actually had to come back on their contracted days to help with online orders. No choice was given, it was this or no job basically. Risking their lives to pack clothes, furnishings, pretty items, furniture?!?!! Hardly necessary items to live

RedLemon · 26/03/2020 22:05

Oh yikes sorry I’ve just seen they’ve shut down too!

Aloe6 · 26/03/2020 22:11

Pleased that they’ve listened to their staff and shut down, just hope they don’t go under completely with no sales.

MiracletoCome · 26/03/2020 22:13

Anyone wanting clothes I would order ASAP before the lot shuts down, My paint tester comes tomorrow from F&B and I am hoping I like it to order my paint tomorrow as that is also not an essential buy.
I’m not sitting comfy at home either, my non essential lab is still open For now...

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/03/2020 22:14

Wow this is big. Everything else will follow suit, i imagine!

GabsAlot · 26/03/2020 22:14

cant believe people are worried about where to buy clothes get a grip

asda tesco sainsbury

Devlesko · 26/03/2020 22:14

About time too, we are all going to have to learn to live with less and recycle.

Pishposhpashy · 26/03/2020 22:15

Oh I placed an order on Monday and got an email today to say it was delayed, I wonder if it will still be delivered then.

TrainspottingWelsh · 26/03/2020 22:15

Maybe everyone so desperate for next baby clothes could volunteer to go and work in their warehouses? With it being essential and all you could consider it your war work.

Or you could just go and physically buy the essentials in a large supermarket with the next food shop. Oh no, silly me, the babygro aisle is far too high risk for the more worthy people, get the online clothes staff back in.

MiracletoCome · 26/03/2020 22:17

The government was encouraging all this online shopping though

saraclara · 26/03/2020 22:18

Some Tescos near me have closed off their home and wear sections. They're only open for groceries. So don't assume you'll be able to buy clothes there.
