Coronavirus - the more extremem measures in particular

Of course this is pure speculation and should not be taken seriously at all. What is your gut telling you?

@millerjane

I think it will peak by mid April, and the restrictions should loosen by then (if people behave themselves!) It will be around mid June though before any semblance of normality is breaking through.

vegas888 · 24/03/2020 14:46

The idea that the situation will stabilize in a few weeks when most experts say that much, much worse is to come appears fanciful. This raises the question of whether Trump is willing to take a decision that could indirectly cause many deaths but that could save millions of other Americans from the deprivations brought on by economic blight.

Aryaneedle · 24/03/2020 14:48

I’ve been self isolating for 7 days (as I’ve had symptoms) if more people get whatever it is I’ve had (who knows if it was CV as no tests) then it will run for a while as higher numbers get it and more people stay in. IME you can’t carry on with your everyday life when you get it so people will stay in. I’m hoping 3 months.

KatherineJaneway · 24/03/2020 14:50

Three months.

ButterbuttSquash · 24/03/2020 14:50

I think we’ll be looking at rolling lockdowns for at least a year. But we can’t sustain hardly any business working for a whole year without any break.

LemonTT · 24/03/2020 14:51

There is no cure or vaccine. Until we eradicate the virus with a vaccine or through complete suppression (impossible), we live with it.

The measures in place accept the virus will continue to live with us in some form or other. The Uk public health response is suppression to enable healthcare to cope and minimise direct and indirect deaths. We are going to have measures to suppress being triggered on and off by pressures on intensive care beds.

Modelling shows that we may trigger off some measures in July. But it will be back with a vengeance in the winter.

PersonaNonGarter · 24/03/2020 14:53

7-8 weeks

The lockdown will not be lifted at once. ‘Construction sites and restaurants to be allowed to open between 8-6pm Monday-Friday’ at first

WhoAmIToTellYou · 24/03/2020 14:58

In a month’s time nhs will be swamped with corona patients so i don’t see lockdown being lifted. It will get better once the numbers of new cases/deaths level up and start going down- this might take months to happen...
July is my guess

Hingeandbracket · 24/03/2020 14:58

Face masks and stricter rules will be next in few days. If people can't follow simple instructions like social distancing, it will have to be forced upon them properly.

Ha ha ha - fat chance. Who is going to force it on them, and where in the name of flip do you think anyone is going to get a viable face mask from?

hadenough · 24/03/2020 15:01

Sadly I am preparing myself for this to continue for the rest of the year to some degree. Normality I don't see emerging until next year.

Eyewhisker · 24/03/2020 15:01

I expect schools to open after half-term. The virus is exponential on the way down as well as the way up and once there are few deaths it is hard to keep these restrictions. UK deaths will peak just before Easter and fall sharply afterwards. Italy deaths will be flat for the next week and then fall sharply.

International travel will take time to reopen, but domestically will be open again end of May at the latest.

FloconDeNeige · 24/03/2020 15:02

He in Switzerland, we are locked down until April 30 and we started a week before the UK. If it’s not shown signs of abating they will extend it.

cornishdreams1 · 24/03/2020 15:03

End of June, some restrictions will be lifted not all, children will not be heading back to school until September.

Tobebythesea · 24/03/2020 15:03

Minimum 3 months for lockdown. I don’t think schools will go back until September.

cornishdreams1 · 24/03/2020 15:03

I also think the peak will happen around easter looking at the graphs.

Whoareyoudududu · 24/03/2020 15:04

I don’t think schools will reopen till September. Lockdown as we know it currently will probably last 2-3 months at least.

cologne4711 · 24/03/2020 15:06

England Athletics have sent out an email today extending the suspension of all activities including small group training to the end of May, which sounds ominous. I wonder what they know that we don't.

That said, the Netherlands has banned general group gatherings until June.

KilljoysDutch · 24/03/2020 15:06

They're really easy to make takes about 20 minutes to run one up. I've made 8 so far so my family and vulnerable people I know. I'll be making more to donate.

Quartz2208 · 24/03/2020 15:11

there will be nothing to return to if we lockdown for a year

The Government arent trying to eradicate they are trying to manage we will have a series of on and off lockdowns for awhile.

The one big unknown is the mild/asymptomatic even China did its cases based on temperature which is not an always symptom

Balancing will need to be done with lives saved vs having a future to come back to when deciding when to come back from lockdown. Lockdown is designed to be a on off process to help the health systems cope

So I agree with @LemonTT

The one thing we need to know fast though is how many have had it - antibody testing is key

Alialialiali · 24/03/2020 15:11

Late 2021

Are you making double layer with pocket for changeable "filter"? That's apparently safest you can make at home.
The mask though doesn't really stop the virus from coming in, but it helps lower what person puts out afaik

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 24/03/2020 15:12

I think half an Europe is sewing now

Very laudable - but my response was to a poster who asserted that there would be some kind of enforced wearing of masks - I don't think everyone is going to have your skills or dedication and it's been pretty much impossible to buy any masks for ages.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 24/03/2020 15:23

Well there already is enforcement in at least one country.

You can make them super stylish. 100% so they can be boiled after use. One is czech health minister, other is slovakian president
