Just for those people panicking about going into lockdown, I just wanted to say that we have been in lockdown for 10 days now in Austria.

We have pretty much the same rules as the UK, except ours are actually enforced by the police with hefty fines for people breaking them.

Restricted access to non-corona medical care, supermarkets, banks and pharmacies has only been used in places where the spread is out of control (not at all in austria yet)

It has taken away all of they grey areas of what you are allowed to do and because you know everyone else is following the same rules, we don't have the levels of anger I can see here from people who feel that others are not following the rules. Here, you would just report them and the police will deal with it.

It isn't as bad as a lot of people here seem to think and may calm or control the panic buying which seems to be causing more problems than the actual virus at the moment.

That made me laugh.

I understand why people want a complete lockdown. I think it needs to be done; but there needs to be provision for people to get food and medication - or the ability to see a GP, dentist etc, for problems that aren't about Covid-19.

What I can't understand is those calling for martial law. Surely that should be a very last resort? We already have draconion rules in place, but once a democratic government in the West uses armed forces to control its citizens we're going down a very dark path. Utilising the police forces, yes; using our armies against us, no. Shame the police and NHS has, over the last 10 years, been stripped of funds and staff.
