There's speculation that he will implement a full lockdown.

How will this differ from what we're doing now?

Well the police will have powers to arrest the total fucking idiots that think going to Snowdonia or a farmers market are ‘essential travel’. Thank god.

ShanghaiDiva · 23/03/2020 17:46

Shut everything except supermarkets and pharmacies and limit how often you can leave your home. Permit required to leave home to travel in car.
Just some of the things that could be done..

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 23/03/2020 17:47

Any idea what times his address may be?

Oakmaiden · 23/03/2020 17:47

I have to be honest, I can't see how buying food from a farmers market is worse than going to the supermarket. But there you go.

ShanghaiDiva · 23/03/2020 17:48

Curfew
Arrests and fines for those not complying with regulations.
Limiting the number of people who can leave the house at any one time.

wouldyouadamandeveit · 23/03/2020 17:48

BBC says no PM briefing today due to COBRA meeting, can't find anything about a later meeting. At least not yet.

SuperlativeScrubs · 23/03/2020 17:48

What time?

StealthPolarBear · 23/03/2020 17:48

Where have you heard that op? Cobra meeting is now

reefedsail · 23/03/2020 17:49

On another thread somebody said it is cancelled for today?

Utterlybutterly8 · 23/03/2020 17:51

Here's the article I saw (DM, sorry): www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8141779/Boris-Johnson-faces-Cabinet-revolt-unless-imposes-coronavirus-lockdown.html

Shut everything except supermarkets and pharmacies

Will they keep the smaller food shops open as well? They've been a lifeline to me and others I know as the supermarkets are a total scrum.

OP posts:
cologne4711 · 23/03/2020 17:52

Might not be full lockdown but similar to German measures eg only allowed out in family groups or no more than 2.

BertiesLanding · 23/03/2020 17:52

Laura Kuenssberg posted that the PM would be addressing the nation after the COBRA meeting.

bank100 · 23/03/2020 17:52

Hopefully they will put a stop to all social gatherings.
A Facebook friend posted a snap of her family and two other families picnicking today at an essex seaside location. Outdoors for 'social distancing'. For goodness sake.

playthestation · 23/03/2020 17:52

The press conference is cancelled. He is to 'address the nation' later instead.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 23/03/2020 17:53

7pm i think

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 23/03/2020 17:54

Lockdown bears no relation to what we are doing now, which for loads of people, is bugger all no change lets all share the virus

Utterlybutterly8 · 23/03/2020 17:55

Does anyone know if we'll still be able to get deliveries from Amazon and other companies (e.g. John Lewis) in the event of a lockdown?

OP posts:
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/03/2020 17:55

I think there might be more essential services than supermarkets and pharmacies?
What about bike shops that are keeping people on the road who need to get to work for example?

ShanghaiDiva · 23/03/2020 17:56

Restrictions have not been the same in all countries.
China took a very tough stance and everything was shut except supermarkets and pharmacy in my area. There have been some fluctuations in restrictions since: takeaway allowed, then not, then okay again and now some local restaurants are open.

DartmoorChef · 23/03/2020 17:56

I can't see how buying food from a farmers market is worse than going to the supermarket

At the moment it isn't but in Spain its a case of limited people allowed in at any time. 5 in 5 out when i was in lanzarote last week. And queuing 2m apart outside.

We need this lock down asap.

StealthPolarBear · 23/03/2020 17:56

Thanks berties

NettleTea · 23/03/2020 17:57

I hope they bring in a lockdown. I hope they allow smaller grocers etc to continue, or allow them to do deliveries.
food production is going to be really essential. most of our fresh food comes from Italy and Spain, so you dont need to think too hard as to what the problem there is.
And we have no farm workers.

kittykat7210 · 23/03/2020 17:58

Lockdown won’t be able to happen/be enforced until they pass this bill, as at present police have no powers and there are no laws. Full lockdown should be implemented Thursday/Friday when they get this bill through!

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2020 18:00

Does anyone know if we'll still be able to get deliveries from Amazon and other companies (e.g. John Lewis) in the event of a lockdown?

Not sure but I did hear that the Government have asked Amazon to help get virus protection equipment to hospitals.

widdioisright · 23/03/2020 18:00

@NettleTea I don’t know where you are,but we are surrounded by farms where I live, local farmer has been out delivering sacks of potatoes in the local villages this morning.
