There's speculation that he will implement a full lockdown.

How will this differ from what we're doing now?

Boris to address the nation at 8.30!

GreyishDays · 23/03/2020 18:01

They are still operating in Italy, or they were when I asked on the AMA thread.

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2020 18:02

8:30pm is his announcement time

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2020 18:02

Was just on the BBC news

FthisS · 23/03/2020 18:02

I rely on amazon for a lot of our food supplements (vegan).

Frownette · 23/03/2020 18:04

@Oakmaiden agree. They're open air as well.

I wonder about public transport and post office

lynsey91 · 23/03/2020 18:05

Let's hope he has grown some balls and comes out with some decisive decisions instead of his usually mumbling, stuttering and bumbling. Oh and stop grinned for fucks sake.

The man is an embarrassment

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 23/03/2020 18:05

Maybe if we just wait for the statement instead of wildly speculating

tinytemper66 · 23/03/2020 18:05

I have a disabled son who lives about 8 miles from us and I would need to visit him every other day to help with showing shaving etc.
He can't live with us and he wouldn't be able to cope on his own for this amount of time. I would need a pass to support him and shop for 3-4 households (mum and an elderly aunt too)

playthestation · 23/03/2020 18:06

They are advising everyone abroad to return to the U.K. ASAP while their are still commercial flights. I reckon Thursday/Friday we wont have any choices anymore.

Myshitisreal · 23/03/2020 18:07

830pm he will address the nation. Just announced on sky news

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/03/2020 18:07

Yes, the public transport cuts will lead to bike shops needing to be kept open for maintenance etc.
A blanket lock down might not necessarily be the right decision.

HeIenaDove · 23/03/2020 18:08

post offices need to stay open. A lot of them are paypoints for key meters I have a thread on here which shows the utility companies have no intention of stepping up.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/03/2020 18:11

"The man is an embarrassment"
It's a shitty situation, on a path previously untrodden, no one was going to lead this in a way that everyone agreed on.

HeIenaDove · 23/03/2020 18:12

@tinytemper66 While its great and totally right that NHS workers are getting support from the media and general public it seems that family carers are being forgotten. I think the realisation of how much carers do might finally be coming.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 18:12

Are bikes different these days? Because what I remember is most people having some spare bits at home and doing repairs themselves.

saveahorserideacowboy · 23/03/2020 18:13

Absolute lol at no farm workers... guess my DH is working 13 hour days 7 days a week for a jolly at the moment then 🙄

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/03/2020 18:13

Sounds ominous.

IsAnybodyListening · 23/03/2020 18:15

I'm a key worker in finance. Half my close knit team are self-isolating, with 2 currently being tested/about to be tested. Apparently I have to keep going into work regardless of UK lock down as I am 'essential'. Glad the banks will profit whilst I'm worried I am going to infect my family. I could work from home, but I have to wait for secure equipment to turn up. Could take weeks.

Could be worse, poor NHS are on the front line being exposed to it every day.

adaline · 23/03/2020 18:16

Closure of everything except vital services.
No going outside except to exercise and to get food.

That's what I hope happens, anyway.

bullyingadvice2017 · 23/03/2020 18:16

I so hope they announce lockdown from midnight or first thing in the morning.

MadameTuffington · 23/03/2020 18:17

A real shift in our local supermarkets in last 24 hours - social distancing markers in Morrissons for main tills, machines and pharmacy queue, self imposed social distancing in Lidl but saw quite a few builders huddled together (necessary maybe?) and a few groups of local teens gathering on the local Green - most people maintaining 6 feet and being gracious and humorous about it - I think Gov needs to get much stricter, i.e trips out of house to work, pharmacy, food store only and 1-2 hours out per day for exercise alone or with one other person from your household - it’s a feckin nasty nasty disease if it hits you - viral pneumonia as opposed to flu - two of my friends are paramedics and have seen it at close hand - I work in a carehome and have had extensive convos with jnr doctors and community nurses - we have to wake the eff up - stay safe, stay home, wash your hands and bl**dy eat properly x

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/03/2020 18:18

@alloutoffucks My friend has a bike shop and apparently people are dusting off bikes that have been festering in the garage to be repaired so they can get to work.
Doctors, teachers etc.

Throughabushbackwards · 23/03/2020 18:18

We need to go into full Italian shouty Mayor mode:

MrsEHB · 23/03/2020 18:19

Hoping he announces all non essential businesses to close. DH is a lorry driver (non essential) and is still working, coming into contact with people daily while his boss sits in the office that no one is allowed into Angry
