... do you believe Boris is in on it?

I've read and heard a few people saying the it's a conspiracy to use fear to remove a lot of our freedoms in one fell swoop. But, unless he's a very good actor, Boris Johnson seems to be actually really reluctant to remove our individual liberties. So I was just wondering what people thought?

As a disclaimer I should add that I don't think it is part of a huge plan to do this, but I could maybe believe that it was an accidental leak from a lab or something. I think when something like this happens it's human nature to look for reasons why it happened because the thought that a random quirk of nature could cause these problems worldwide is terrifying.

USA mass graves.
Lots of places are fucked.

None of the governments really know what to do and it's hardly surprising.

BeetrootRocks · 11/04/2020 01:25

True deadringer.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 01:27

Trump is trying, tentatively, to say “let’s crack on”, but he’s being shouted down. Trump should be the person holding out....if he cracks, it’s all over.

What Boris has done is bad enough. Why did he crack? Stupid asshat.

@WomanisTaken

What has Bill Gates said? I thought he was rational

emojisarentwords · 11/04/2020 01:45

The only believable one imho is the one about changing the batteries in the birds. Come on, think about it, when was the last time this happened? Surely the batteries would be running very low by now and that's why bird flu is a thing. I also think we are experiencing a most significant point in history here as I believe they are now going to be fitting the birds with solar powered batteries so there is no need to do this again! We could be the last people in history to experience the changing of the bird batteries! Wow, just wow.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 01:47

I thought changing batteries in birds was an MN joke?

OutComeTheWolves · 11/04/2020 01:50

@iwanna I might be wrong but he's made comments about vaccinations which have been wilfully misconstrued.

IIRC he said something about vaccinations in poorer countries reducing the population by about 10-15%. Some people took this to mean he was in favour of using vaccinations to kill people or something? What he later clarified is that when successful vaccination programs are rolled out in developing countries, over time the population naturally reduces because people have greater faith their children will survive into adulthood therefore they have fewer children.

Another point about BAME - a large proportion of scientists, epidemiologists in the WHO and elsewhere are BAME. Do you honestly think they would not pick up on it being man-made and directed at BAME if it was, or go along with it if they suspected it?

The thing that gets me about conspiracy theories is people do not get that people would have to be geniuses to mastermind things like that up, especially undetected, as would those who went along with it as actors. Boris and Trump are many things, but they are not geniuses, quite the opposite.

emojisarentwords · 11/04/2020 01:57

On a more serious note... the virus isn't engineered, it's naturally occurring. It's nothing to do with 5g. There isn't a reptilian billionaire experimenting with us. And the rest of all that good shit. The fact that a bigger % of BAME people are getting it may also be explained away by using as a comparison our propensity to succumb to diseases that our Caucasian friends might not in the same numbers. However, the virology lab in Wuhan bothers me greatly. Lab leaks have happened in the past (see SARS 2004) and others around the world, it's not beyond the realms of possibility although unlikely. For me the distance of the lab from the origin just doesn't sit right, especially when you combine that with the initial response from China. Wet markets are all over China, why that one?

@BeetrootRocks
Why would Boris and trump deliberately crash the world's economy?

They are capitalists.

Go ask Jacob Rees Mogg. His father literally wrote the book / invented modern disaster capitalism. Mogg is making money hand over fist right now and has been ever since Brexit. The whole point is to crash / short certain sections of the economy, buy it up cheaply then sell it back for high profits.

packetandtripe · 11/04/2020 02:03

It is exactly what it is - a zoonose. Through time, and bad practices this is what occurs. It is also not relatively harmless, whoever posted that. The Herpes virus, has reached a level where it can coexist with the host, similarly the aids virus, decades of mutations and adaptations. Ebola, Marburg etc. by all accounts an horrific way to die, is not as spreadable as this virus, but both have a higher death rate. There is a trade off for a virus here.

packetandtripe · 11/04/2020 02:04

do I infect a host and get myself spread as fast as possible, potentially killing my host, or do I live within my host and spread occasionally and keep going for longer
.

Iwannabeadored20 · 11/04/2020 02:05

@OutComeTheWolves

Thanks - I had heard something about a pandemic exercise he had written about in October but can't remember the details

Thinkinghappythoughts · 11/04/2020 02:06

I don't believe this conspiracy theory about coronavirus, but I do believe that Johnson is in on crashing the UK out of the EU. Look at the pp ahead to see why. Look at who funded his leadership campaign.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 02:09

Packet “ do I infect a host and get myself spread as fast as possible, potentially killing my host, or do I live within my host and spread occasionally and keep going for longer“

I said this to my sister and she said “stop talking about the virus like it’s a person” 😂
.

packetandtripe · 11/04/2020 02:11

it's like sending an untrained soldier into a house and the untrained soldier is the only one with a gun. The stupid soldier kills them all takes over the house and realises that unless he does it again, he is forever on his own. The trained soldier persuades the residents of the house that he will work with them, but they owe him for not killing them and a deal is agreed. Sometimes it favours him, sometimes them. But any chance that comes up for either party is taken.

packetandtripe · 11/04/2020 02:14

@LilacTree1
Yes, I know exactly what you mean or your sister, both of you!😂😂 There is the question always, are they alive or not? They have nothing, they can't live without a host. But what they do have is what every smallest animal/fungus/bacterium has in this world, is the need to reproduce.

packetandtripe · 11/04/2020 02:18

reread my post about soldiers, just ignore me.

CKL987 · 11/04/2020 02:26

This is effecting BAME people more for socio-economic reasons, especially in London. A lot of the lower paid front line jobs where people can't work from home have a higher proportion of BAME workers. Their living conditions are also different and they live in larger, multi-generational households than white people do. For some, their English may not be good so they do not have access to the same information as non-BAME.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 02:43

The poster who said people were making money out of this - agree. The rich will get richer.

But, do Johnson and Trump want to be in the history books as having caused another Great Depression, by refusal to accept that an outbreak isn’t something we can all hide from?

Takemetovegas · 11/04/2020 03:10

Many groups of BAME people have a genetic disposition to hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Low socioeconomics just increase this risk further.

COVID has consistently shown worse outcomes for people with these diseases. It is no surprise that BAME people have worse outcomes.

Mamajules43 · 11/04/2020 04:03

A big virus has been due a while apparently.

There's a good doc on Netflix!

starlightgazers · 11/04/2020 04:12

This is effecting BAME people more for socio-economic reasons, especially in London

I agree overall, but that doesn't explain the prevalence of deaths in senior BAME doctors - there earn good money, so IF deaths in BAME are higher then I would suspect genetic predisposition to several chronic illnesses plays a large part too.

Petiolaris · 11/04/2020 05:06

The main reason BAME people have died in greater numbers is poverty and its knock-on effects. The second reason is the higher proportion of BAME medics in some areas.

I don’t think the virus was engineered, but I’m sceptical about it being released naturally when there’s conveniently a research facility in Wuhan. I’d be willing to accept they were studying local bat viruses and one escaped.
