Covid

IF you believe coronavirus is a conspiracy...

... do you believe Boris is in on it?

I've read and heard a few people saying the it's a conspiracy to use fear to remove a lot of our freedoms in one fell swoop. But, unless he's a very good actor, Boris Johnson seems to be actually really reluctant to remove our individual liberties. So I was just wondering what people thought?

As a disclaimer I should add that I don't think it is part of a huge plan to do this, but I could maybe believe that it was an accidental leak from a lab or something. I think when something like this happens it's human nature to look for reasons why it happened because the thought that a random quirk of nature could cause these problems worldwide is terrifying.

Diseases are indiscriminate, but this one seems to be lethal to black/Asian people.

That isnt true, sickle cell disease, lung cancer, diabetes all affect certain groups more.

As others have said - diabetes, heart disease, hypertension are all relevant co-morbidities - all affect BAME groups at higher rates and often at a younger age. It’s highly insulting to health workers to insinuate BAME are not getting the same level of care. I live in a very multi cultural area and we are seeing people of all skin colours and ethnic backgrounds dying. We treat everyone the same.

It was not created in a lab. Please do basic research.

Virologists all over the globe are studying this virus on a genetic level. There is no way to engineer a bioweapon without there being very clear signs of it being bioengineered. Yet scientists from all over the world have unanimously agreed the virus could not have been engineered.

Yeah well, I’m sure we’ll find out in a couple of years what really happened. 1/3 of the world’s black and brown people will be dead by then. But hey ho.

OP “ But, unless he's a very good actor, Boris Johnson seems to be actually really reluctant to remove our individual liberties.”

I don’t believe it’s a conspiracy. I do think some politicians are gleeful about the way they can control citizens but I don’t think Boris Johnson is one of them, my understanding is the cabinet pushed very hard for lockdown.

I don’t imagine anyone would admit it if they thought it was a conspiracy? I think there’s an argument it’s being made dramatic in order to gain control over citizens but apparently some people were begging to be locked down so that’s confusing too.

And yes, it is true that there aren’t that many white British hospital doctors in many areas, especially at registrar/ consultant level. I can barely think of any in my Trust, hence the high level of BAME doctor deaths so far. There is also a high number of BAME nurses, but most dying so far have been white. Conspiracy theories are ridiculous - pandemics are relatively common events and we were overdue one. Disease has always been the biggest threat to man, but some like to think the human race and medicine has become too advanced for mass disease and death, but it simply isn’t true.

Most dying in Italy were Italian, in China, Chinese, France - French and so on. The BAME conspiracy is fucking ridiculous.

I'm seeing so much of this stuff at the moment. Not just my nutty friends on FB, but even in the comments fields of my local paper: "See 'ow they never say 'Died of Covid, eh? Always 'Died, having been diagnosed with the virus!" What's the matter with people!? It's the same with AIDS, if you are unlucky, you die of 'AIDS-related complications' such as cancer or pneumonia, yet nobody says AIDS is a hoax.
David Icke is popping up everywhere after decades of relative obscurity, with people being amazed at his having 'seen through' the pandemic and extrapolating on its place in a greater crime against humanity (ID chips in vaccines and the roll out of 5G). DI has been joining far-fetched dots for 30 years, and the objects of his projections, predictions and extrapolations have changed over the years.
Bill Gates is another one at the centre of corona-induced paranoia and malice. Another level completely.
I know one shouldn't engage, and that cultified thinking is extremely hard to penetrate or refute, but I feel like I am going to burst with frustration that my ordinarily perfectly reasonable friends are disappearing down this particular rabbit hole. The thing that will tip me over the edge is one more mention of sheeple or lemmings. So rude!

I’m BAME, haven’t come across that one.

David Icke hasn’t been obscure, he’s very popular isn’t he?

Starlight “ but some like to think the human race and medicine has become too advanced for mass disease and death, but it simply isn’t true.”

Yes, I’m shocked how people think we can “beat it”.

Report
starlightgazers · 11/04/2020 01:03

Quite. And if the next pandemic is bacterial, it’s highly likely there will be no antibiotic that can treat it given the rates of antibacterial resistance we are currently seeing.

Out of interest of people believing its a conspiracy to kill black/asian people, how do you account for the relatively low death rate in china and south korea and the huge death rate in Italy?

Sadly that's incorrect (I only know as I am currently researching attitudes towards hiv/history of aids as a thesis):there have been conspiracy theories and denialism even with all the data available and a history of 40 years

Re the BAME aspect it will be interesting to see what happens in the continent of Africa. As far as I can see it's not taken hold in a big way there yet. And hope it never does.

I think India and large parts of Africa are fucked tbh.

Also other parts of the world.

This is a nightmare and we're lucky to live where we do and have universal access to healthcare.

Statistically the virus seems to affect men more, that reason alone is enough to convince me that this virus was not designed by 'man'.
