been doing trips up and down the A30 the last few days delivering bits to vulnerable family members. I reckon I’ve seen probably over a thousand campers, caravans and cars loaded with luggage heading towards Cornwall, full of passengers. Very worried for my gran who lives there. Cornwall is full of old people and has one hospital which only just manages to keep up on a normal day. People running away to their second homes ought to be ashamed.

Pretty sure there’s another thread on here already. I absolutely agree, it’s a disgrace and they should be ashamed of themselves.

TheQueef · 22/03/2020 15:15

The sense of entitlement astounds me it really does.
So many special exceptions who are above basic common sense nvm anything else, they are fucking themselves too along with all the extra people.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2020 15:22

People keep saying Cornwall only has one hospital, isn't there also one in penzance? I don't know the area at all so could be confused.

SidsWife · 22/03/2020 15:22

And you know full well they’re not going to be staying in either. They will be out and about, spreading the virus around because I guess Cornish folk don’t matter.

Not arguing with the thread in general. Someone showed a motorway on the way to part of Wales on another thread, it was bumper to bumper

FatAlbert · 22/03/2020 15:24

So many people are stupid and selfish.

SidsWife · 22/03/2020 15:24

If you’re actually sick then you have to go treliske. Penrice and Penzance are basically just minor injury units.

OrangeSamphire · 22/03/2020 15:26

You are right OP. It’s dire the number of tourists who have shown up. Our village is packed. See photo of lane above local beach which is normally empty.

And yes there is only one hospital. There are ‘urgent care’ and community hospital sites dotted about too, which are usually for things like x ray, minor injuries, some outpatient appointments.

But if you’re sick, the only ED and acute wards are at Treliske in Truro.

OrangeSamphire · 22/03/2020 15:26

Photo this time!

Brace yourselves Cornwall.
Ginnymweasley · 22/03/2020 15:27

Same in wales. I can see the a55 (main road through north wales) from my upstairs. Mainly caravans and campervans this weekend. Our shit local hospital will not cope. I can stay in with the kids my dh has to go to work with the public in a tourist hotspot ( his work is classed as essential).

Ledkr · 22/03/2020 15:28

Why are they doing it? We have a camper van but have sorned it to save money as we have no intention of using it sort from maybe to self isolate if we needed to.
I can't think of anything worse than being in a van if I'm ill and not being in my local hospital if I needed it.
Such a strange reaction from people.

whateverhappenstheremore · 22/03/2020 15:28

Perhaps they have vulnerable family members who need to be out of the city.

LesLavandes · 22/03/2020 15:29

Brighton is heaving today. A bit of sunshine and Brits lose their brain cells.

LostStars39 · 22/03/2020 15:30

Oh wow I needed this thread today! My parents both mid 50s are planning on going down to their second home next week. I’m absolutely furious with them as my mum is high risk anyway as she has diabetes. They won’t listen and said they’re completely stocked up with food and won’t be going out except for walks in the countryside/ on the beach. Anyone got any ideas of what else I can try saying to them? I’ve said they’re selfish and there’s only one hospital down there but apparently if either of them get I’ll they’ll come straight back home (5 hour drive 🙄)

Ginnymweasley · 22/03/2020 15:31

When I'm thinking where to take vulnerable people I always think rural areas with stretched resources.... or they could stay at home safe in their houses near better hospitals.

@whateverhappenstheremore there are many many vulnerable people who already live in these locations. My son is one of them. The last thing anyone needs is more vulnerable people in areas where there are fewer critical care beds per head of (permanent) population than anywhere else.

ITasteSpring · 22/03/2020 15:32

Yesterday I read an article in a newspaper which was all about promoting Cornwall as a place to go on hols now that you can't go abroad..

SidsWife · 22/03/2020 15:32

The house next door to my gran is a holiday home and we’re praying it stays empty. My gran has severe asthma, lupus, diabetes bloody everything.

transformandriseup · 22/03/2020 15:32

I'm glad I'm self isolating and staying at home as I would be fuming if I saw all that.

I heard the local beaches were packed today.

Lulu1919 · 22/03/2020 15:32

I live in a seaside town ....I hear the beaches etc are heaving
Local NT place was turning people away as car parks were full yesterday by lunch time !!!

OrangeSamphire · 22/03/2020 15:32

@LostStars39 send them the statements from Cornwall Council and Steve Double MP telling people to stay away from Cornwall.

Snowy111 · 22/03/2020 15:34

This is similar to what happened in Italy. Many Londoners taking the virus from the hotspot of London around the country. We have learned nothing

Ginfordinner · 22/03/2020 15:34

Local shops could do what council recycling centres do, and ask for proof of address - a council tax bill or utility bill.
I have family in Cornwall, and a couple of them are vulnerable. There is just one hospital, in Truro. These "holiday makers" are truly selfish.

Barbie222 · 22/03/2020 15:36

It is awful. He should have locked things down in terms of holiday travel when the schools closed.
