been doing trips up and down the A30 the last few days delivering bits to vulnerable family members. I reckon I’ve seen probably over a thousand campers, caravans and cars loaded with luggage heading towards Cornwall, full of passengers. Very worried for my gran who lives there. Cornwall is full of old people and has one hospital which only just manages to keep up on a normal day. People running away to their second homes ought to be ashamed.

Bunch of fucks. Seriously, fuck off. If there was ever a time we didn’t want you here, it is now.

You know how many ventilators Treliske has?

  1. For 600,000 residents.

And now you’re one of the thousands of people adding to the problem.

Fuck. Off.

The local village shops are starting to consider asking for proof of primary address before allowing purchases. Genuinely, I hope they do that. Starve the fuckers away.

Carpathian2 · 22/03/2020 16:01

I'm in Plymouth and the overspill from Treliske hospital will be at Derriford hospital, so it'll cock up our local care. Cheers then!

SarahinCornwall · 22/03/2020 16:02

I live in Cornwall. We are starting to hear that camp sites are reversing their openness and closing which is the right thing to do but probably too late. Even though we have the beaches we are staying home as that is proper social distancing.

SidsWife · 22/03/2020 16:02

Yep. Derriford gets a lot of critical patients from cornwall anyway! When my husband split his head open years ago he was taken straight to derriford, and we were in Fowey.

I'm in weston and our local beach is absolutely heaving, someone shared a photo of them all like sardines on the promenade.

Tempnamelady · 22/03/2020 16:03

Absolute twats! I have a touring caravan currently in storage on the Llyn peninsula , with a seasonal pitch booked from next week for the season. We only bought the van last year later in and so didn’t use it much. I can’t tell you how excited I was to be getting ready to site it again this year.
Given the current situation I have no intention of going near North Wales until all of this is well and truly over. As far as I know the hospital is at Bangor , probably a good 45 minutes away.
I’m currently in bed with suspected CV, having had an exemplary response from my local healthcare providers in a large city, I doubt that the infrastructure in NW could support such a response.

sunfloweryy · 22/03/2020 16:04

@trappedsincesundaymorn I live in Somerset too and there are definitely cases. I know one personally and a few others with symptoms but not confirmed. Not that it’ll stop them...

JudyCoolibar · 22/03/2020 16:04

Darwinism in action - the stupid doing their best to eliminate themselves from the gene pool. The problem, of course, is all the victims they take with them.

Tulipstulips · 22/03/2020 16:05

Feeling really glad we just cancelled our self catering cottage in the southwest in May. Gutted to do it but know I’m convinced it was the right choice.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/03/2020 16:06

O M G
We saw this happening in Spain. Now here. People are complete idiots!

SidsWife · 22/03/2020 16:08

Lockdown is the only thing that’s going to give cornwall a chance of surviving this. In terms of business and economy, it will take years for them to recover from this.

Thank you tulips. Hopefully others will have done the same.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 22/03/2020 16:08

LostStars39 I would ask them how confident they are that they can make the 5 hour trip back, while one of them is sick, without needing to stop and use the loo? Are they seriously suggested they can manage that? Ask them seriously whether they have ever done the entire journey without stopping? It’s not likely.
If they are wrong and develop symptoms quickly they will be admitted to a hospital without enough ventilators. They will not be allowed visitors and, in the worst case scenario will die alone and will not have a funeral. It seems like a heck of a chance to take and they aren’t even just chancing their own lives.

MitziK · 22/03/2020 16:08

Makes me wonder why we stayed at work until shutdown and didn't go home - we could have called in sick and decamped to Dartmoor. As it is, thanks to staying until last knockings and dealing with multiple sick kids sent into school under the claims of it only being a cough or temperature, not both or not serious enough, I've come down with something.

But I suppose we actually have people we give a shit about living in West Devon, rather than these twats, who don't give a monkey's about anybody but themselves.

So if FIL, MIL, DP's Auntie and GM - essentially, everybody he has in the world - end up dying of this, it won't be our fault.

It'll be the fault of the fucking middle classes.

Whohasnickedmyvodka · 22/03/2020 16:10

In Truro and I'm fucking petrified we are on lock down as my 4 year old dd has a cough we have only ventured into my garden today and we are on day 6

SpringFan · 22/03/2020 16:11

Been whats apping with my friend who retired to rural France. His entire village are up in arms about the Parisian second homers who have turned up with friends. Appantly the Mairie are considering permanent resident's only permits. Not sure if that would work here.
Some of the Suffolk villages could use it I think.

onalongsabbatical · 22/03/2020 16:12

@LostStars39 point out that they could both get it at the same time and be too ill to drive, please.

Mimx · 22/03/2020 16:13

The Caravan Club and Caravan & Camping Club have both announced today that they are closing all their the sites with immediate effect, finally - so hopefully if you see lots of caravans and motorhomes on the roads today, it’s all people actually going home. Shame it took them so long to realise the necessity. Doesn’t solve the second home situation though.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/03/2020 16:14

sunfloweryy

We've had no confirmed cases in our surrounding area but we have "suspected" cases in the larger town about 20 mins drive away. I've no doubt it'll work it's way to us...a lot sooner after today.

Sunflower20 · 22/03/2020 16:14

Ugh the government should do more to protect the vulnerable in these locations. Permits would be a good idea. Why should 80 year old grannies with chronic health conditions be put at risk because selfish people can't bear to stay in their homes for a few months.

tryingtoprep · 22/03/2020 16:16

Interesting Tempnamelady I've read a few posts like yours about good healthcare in cities outside London. It sounds like the best resources hospitals are cities other than London? Perhaps because London's such a vast area with nearly 9 million people. Some live close to a hospital but many especially in greater London live at least 45 minutes, often further, away from one. Most don't live anywhere near the few flapship central London hospitals (that serve the whole UK). These central London hospitals are well resourced but are also extremely under pressure. They're not only used by the rich. Some extremely deprived communities live nearby. They also serve London's large very vulnerable rough sleeper community.

MowzersAsleep · 22/03/2020 16:16

Whohasnickedmyvodka

Same here, except its me thats unwell, day 6. DD has to stay at home with me next week, intstead of school.

We are near Truro, about 8 miles away.

Fairineouf · 22/03/2020 16:16

OrangeSamphire - please accept my apology, I should have asked that question of Snowy111, the poster below yours.

Snowy111 - you said "Many Londoners taking the virus from the hotspot of London around the country" where is the source for this comment. is it only Londoners clogging up roads the length and breadth of the country?

StarryGazeyEyes · 22/03/2020 16:17

I feel so angry that people would do this. We have made every effort to abide by the guidelines, but are powerless to stop the fuckwits descending on us. I can't go and see my elderly relatives a few miles away, yet random strangers can descend on their town putting even more pressure on their already stressed medical services and shops. Please just stop it - people are going to die because of your sense of entitlement. We don't have anywhere else to go to.

StormzyinaTCup · 22/03/2020 16:18

I hope they prioritise beds and ventilators for locals - would be easy to access that information from NHS database to see where their registered doctors surgery is.
