been doing trips up and down the A30 the last few days delivering bits to vulnerable family members. I reckon I’ve seen probably over a thousand campers, caravans and cars loaded with luggage heading towards Cornwall, full of passengers. Very worried for my gran who lives there. Cornwall is full of old people and has one hospital which only just manages to keep up on a normal day. People running away to their second homes ought to be ashamed.

DCIRozHuntley · 22/03/2020 15:36

It's a disgusting way to behave. Not a good idea to take your germs to somewhere new. The selfishness and stupidity and entitlement is vile.

Quite apart from anything else, I'm wanting to keep my kids inside at home to avoid broken legs from falling out of trees, car accidents, nasty tumbles from bikes etc which will place further strain on A&E. The last thing I want them to do is be excited, on a beach, with no hospital beds for tens of miles.

TheMemoryLingers · 22/03/2020 15:37

I'm 400 miles away from Cornwall and this makes me want to scream. What are people doing? Does anyone care about stopping the spread of this virus? Can't they see we are inviting an apocalypse by behaving so stupidly? Stay at home. Everyone, just stay at home.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 22/03/2020 15:37

Oh no!

DD had to go to the hospital there once as an emergency, and it was amazingly full at the time. In October. Shock

She was admitted to a ward and the poor doctor was doing rounds in A& E and then doing rounds on the ward. Amazingly kind, and the nurses were fab... but this was low low season (not half term)

Snowy111 · 22/03/2020 15:37

Nope I don’t know how to share Valerios full thread, but it’s scary if you click on it

Escapetab · 22/03/2020 15:37

Perhaps they have vulnerable family members who need to be out of the city.

Being out of the city won't help them. The virus isn't airborne or travelling through the bloody water pipes. You know what would help them? Staying in their homes.

They're headed towards, and causing, inadequate health care and food supply.
People are going to get a bloody shock once this virus really hits.

TheVanguardSix · 22/03/2020 15:39

Selfish assholes. Just exacerbating the problem. I’m in London so it’ll be full of us coming your way, no doubt. The problem is people don’t understand that this virus is everywhere and that yes, they probably will get it. You can’t run from it. They think they’re above Mother Nature. This will be an unfortunate wake-up call.

Fairineouf · 22/03/2020 15:39

OrangeSamphire Out of interest, where is the source of your information that it's "many Londoners taking the virus from the hotspot of London around the country".

Are all other areas of the country behaving except for London?

WankStainWasher · 22/03/2020 15:41

PeppermintPasty · 22/03/2020 15:43

Apparently Claudia Winkleman has just been seen in our local shop in North Cornwall, after posting support for the NHS and telling people to stay at home. It beggars belief how many people are coming down here.

A lot of local people are calling for a road block on the A30. It’s all too little too late for these idiots.

tryingtoprep · 22/03/2020 15:44

Here's an idea. Those who wish to go to a second home or rent a caravan in the country swap with the locals who think hospitals and shops are better equipped in the cities. Everyone gets to be where they want. Win win. All take their own food and provisions before leaving meaning they self isolate and therefore won't be taking supply local shops.

Deelish75 · 22/03/2020 15:44

Same thing is happening in North Wales and Lake District. I was listening to a Dr from NW on the radio today and he is terrified, begging people not to come/go home as they don't have the infrastructure to deal with a mass outbreak.

These people are idiots.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2020 15:45

Thanks for clarifying op. I suppose the other thing is you can't easily travel out of Cornwall if you need to. I'm in Co Durham but could easily also travel to teesside or gateshead for a & e, less than an hour.

zombieapocalypseisnigh · 22/03/2020 15:47

The Government needs to ORDER them all to go home.

Like Norway did ... ORDERED people to stay in their primary homes and not go to their summer cabins, which a huge percentage of the population keeps. To keep medical services safe in the various regions.

Ginnymweasley · 22/03/2020 15:47

Graphista · 22/03/2020 15:47

Selfish idiots!

I'm also in an area with a popular coastal/seaside town nearby and there's posts on Facebook by local business owners and residents saying it's crazy busy on the beach and promenade!

This is NOT what people are meant to be doing.

Our local hospital has suffered badly due to the cuts we have a limited a&e service anyway and certainly couldn't cope with a load of seriously ill people needing itu beds and ventilators!

If you're one of these arses reading this (cos they won't post) GO HOME!!

OrangeSamphire · 22/03/2020 15:49

@Fairineouf I don’t think I’ve mentioned Londoners on this thread?

MowzersAsleep · 22/03/2020 15:49

The local news website/facebook page 'Cornwall Live' is showing 100 remote places to visit in Cornwall.

They have always been twats though, almost as bad as the Daily Fail for arseholeness.

cjpark · 22/03/2020 15:50

Its crazy. We live near a beach in Cornwall and its rammed. Busier than August I reckon. There is one major hospital in Truro with 12 ICU beds - all full. There are no beds with the necessary ventilators currently free in the county. There are local small hospitals like Penzance, Bodmin etc but these are minor injuries and out patient only. Do not come. And there is no food anyway.

SidsWife · 22/03/2020 15:52

I am hoping they close the bridge eventually.

MsJaneAusten · 22/03/2020 15:53

It’s the same in Cumbria. Bowness is heaving

GA2012 · 22/03/2020 15:54

It’s infuriating. Treliske can’t cope with an average tourist season. Wonderful staff but so over stretched and under funded. They will never cope if locals and tourists get ill. Tourists spreading it when they could stay where they live!! Stay away people!

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/03/2020 15:55

If your vulnerable the last place you need to be is away from a major hospital.

Ffs. There’s a real lack of comprehension in this country.

mylittleavalon · 22/03/2020 15:55

I live in the Highlands and have just had a huge panic over the fact something could happen to my family and friends and the ambulance would just not get to us because of all these extra people. I've calmed down now but its hard

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/03/2020 15:56

I live near a tourist spot in Somerset and it is heaving today. One particular twat commented about how lucky we were that we didn't have a single CV case anywhere near.....well we bloody will now so thanks for that!!!
