Anyone know what time to expect it today? Is Boris doing it today?

I see the BBC have a Coronavirus daily special 4.10-5.40pm today so presuming it will be then?

Do you think we'll have any announcements today? I'm hoping there are more lockdown measures announced. I think it's time to shut non essential shops and enforce social distancing.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 18:02

Dr Jenny H was good. Clear and easy to get.

StarShapedWindow · 22/03/2020 18:02

I can’t believe Jenny had the chance to say ‘no social gatherings!’ but instead said some gabble that can be misinterpreted.

SunshineCake · 22/03/2020 18:03

When he started thanking those that have stayed at home I really thought he was building up to bollock those who haven't.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 18:04

I don’t think it was as bad as people are saying.

1.5m help to stay home that’s good.

Extra restriction if people don’t change.

missclimpson · 22/03/2020 18:04

I still maintain that they are just doing what Macron did but a week later. Announcement of lockdown Monday evening to take effect Tuesday midday I reckon.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 18:04

Yes the social gathering bit was a shame.

jasjas1973 · 22/03/2020 18:05

Isn't the common cold a coronavirus? and who has had a cold more than once?

The herd immunity theory is exactly that, a theory... he may as well reopen the pubs.

His family won't die because they will get the sort of treatment we can only dream of.

Greenpop21 · 22/03/2020 18:05

It’s a week later because every country’s peak or start of rise is different.

lilgreen · 22/03/2020 18:06

Oh @jasjas1973 stick to The Sun.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 22/03/2020 18:07

@totallyfuckedup I said exactly the same to my sister last night, I lost my husband last year

LolaSmiles · 22/03/2020 18:09

He should have cut the waffle and instead stuck with the two key points he made

  1. Socially distance. If you go out remain 2 metres apart. (I did laugh when he said "it's not that difficult". I was so hoping he was going to call our selfish gits).
  1. Preferably stay at home and avoid going out

All the waffle means more situations like me walking the dogs this morning, passing 90% of people either going for a walk or walking their dogs who were wrapped up and keeping their distance, and then see 10% of people who decided that the children's play area was the place to be on Sunday morning so there's loads of kids running around, lots of parents huddled around the benches, using the snack hut to get their coffees and so on.
Friday: Schools are trying to reduce children interacting so have closed to most people
Sunday: go to the play area and run around with lots of random children and use grimy play equipment

jasjas1973 · 22/03/2020 18:09

@lilgreen Carefully constructed rebuttal there... well done you!

YeahYou · 22/03/2020 18:10

@PleaseStopCrying Letters are needed to show employers - so many threads on here with employers telling very vulnerable people to come into work.

Egghead68 · 22/03/2020 18:12

Oh my goodness. What a confusing and contradictory mess.

PleaseStopCrying · 22/03/2020 18:13

Letters are needed to show employers

Fair enough its just emails, texts etc would be so much quicker and like I said I had a call to say to stay in for 12 weeks.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 22/03/2020 18:15

Yes my employer will not even pay SSP without the letter.

Alialialiali · 22/03/2020 18:16

@covetingthepreciousthings

Are they just delaying it because the Corona Bill hasn't been passed in parliament yet? I'm not up on how the law works, but could that be why

I think it's a case of get all your bullshit out of the way ie. public stockpiling etc... still congregating, setting up working from home and childcare arrangements... once everything is in place and the infections are taking off and they really need the lockdown then an actual full lockdown will be much easier to implement... This is like a training phase for the real thing. We went from 20 dead last week to 200 dead this week, about 40 dying each day. Maybe end of next week we'll be in lockdown

BettyIsMyFavouriteSquirrel · 22/03/2020 18:19

I wish they’d just say “look, stay inside and don’t meet anyone outside of your household” they’re just not being clear and people are looking for loopholes.

Egghead68 · 22/03/2020 18:19

I wonder if the list is a handy quick guide of who not to ventilate.

Yep...

lilgreen · 22/03/2020 18:20

It’s all you can cope with @jasjas1973 obviously. You’re about 4 weeks behind!

PleaseStopCrying · 22/03/2020 18:21

they’re just not being clear and people are looking for loopholes.

Yep and until they are clearer people will continue to do just that, because people dont think it applies to them.

iVampire · 22/03/2020 18:21

I’ll be on the list. I have leukaemia

I get free prescriptions anyhow. I don’t need free food

What I do need is a method to book a weekly online shop, and a flag on the system that means something like; ‘we don’t cancel this one unless the sky is falling in, and if it does fall we’re proactive in rearranging a slot asap”

CrowleysBentley · 22/03/2020 18:23

I'm sure I read somewhere over the last couple of days that the laws that would allow for proper lock down don't come into effect until Thursday. I have no idea where I read that though, so might be complete rubbish. It would sort of explain all the ineffectual asking nicely bollocks that they're doing now though.

YangShanPo · 22/03/2020 18:28

ivampire it does sound like they will be getting your food delivery to you via these hubs, whatever that is.

Rosehip10 · 22/03/2020 18:31

BoJo is a joke. I'm no sturgeon fan but at least she speaks clearly.
