Anyone know what time to expect it today? Is Boris doing it today?

I see the BBC have a Coronavirus daily special 4.10-5.40pm today so presuming it will be then?

Do you think we'll have any announcements today? I'm hoping there are more lockdown measures announced. I think it's time to shut non essential shops and enforce social distancing.

2 weeks ago Italy locked down

But they are feckless excitable foreigners, and we are God's Chosen People. Take Back Control and all that.

PicsInRed · 22/03/2020 17:53

Large gatherings are apparently more problematic from a standpoint of creating a burden on emergency services.

They were banned in Europe and now the UK as emergency services could no longer be spared to support those events.

justasking111 · 22/03/2020 17:53

What a waste of time this has been.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 17:53

Are they just delaying it because the Corona Bill hasn't been passed in parliament yet? I'm not up on how the law works, but could that be why?

Will there be an emergency Cobra meeting tomorrow?

Merkel now in Quarantine. Her doctor has tested postive.

TonytheDog · 22/03/2020 17:54

Fucking hell!!! We're doomed!! Useless bunch of idiot!!!
I think there should be a vote of no confidence' and a coalition (excluding BoJo) formed.
It's like fucking 'Carry on Corona'!!

Xenia · 22/03/2020 17:54

And free food and medicines for up to the 1.5m people on the list.

PicsInRed · 22/03/2020 17:55

What a waste of time this has been.

It was rather.

JellyfishandShells · 22/03/2020 17:55

Excellent, clear speeches by all three at the press conference. Well done to them

PleaseStopCrying · 22/03/2020 17:55

They were banned in Europe and now the UK

But they are not banned here. You only have to look look at the photos circling on the Internet to see that. If someone on my stree wanted a party with 100 people at their house there's literally nothing stopping them.

PicsInRed · 22/03/2020 17:56

Good point on the Corona Bill.
They may not have sufficiently draconian powers yet in place.

SouthWestmom · 22/03/2020 17:57

Well they said they were considering it over the next 24 months

RichardMarxisinnocent · 22/03/2020 17:57

Petition for a lockdown signed, and have emailed my MP asking him to request the government implement a lockdown now. I am sitting here in tears of frustration and anger.

middleager · 22/03/2020 17:58

It's like fucking 'Carry on Corona'!!

Grin
TonytheDog · 22/03/2020 17:58

@JellyfishandShells
Yes. I agree. Clear and focused.
It's easy to criticise, so much more difficult to do something.

I fear in 24 hours, we may well be in lock down
And I hope that at the next daily update the speakers will lead by example and be 2m apart.

SunshineCake · 22/03/2020 17:59

We can all decide to quarantine ourselves without the government telling us too. So many posts of people kicking off because Johnny and Jean have gone out but the poster saw them when they went to the shop so they were out too..

Thescrewinthetuna · 22/03/2020 17:59

It’s like watching a car crash

Alialialiali · 22/03/2020 17:59

@Apolloanddaphne
If you look at the journalists at the front they are well spaced out. I assume BJ and the others have all been tested and so know they pose no risk. I may be a lone voice in the dark but I think the government are doing a decent job in very difficult times.

I echo this. I think they're doing a marvellous job. A lot of people think this is is as simple as rolling in the tanks or something heavy handed like that. I feel we've looked at this sensibly, understood the complexity of attempting to control the population and struck a good balance.
We don't all think alike but we have to come together now, understand that we are all in different situations and so should not be judged by the same standard and that we are in this for the long haul. This is not something you want to jump into and then find yourself burning out too soon because you underestimated it. I'm sure they'll bring in extra measures as required.

lilgreen · 22/03/2020 18:00

They happen every day and have done for the last week.

chipsandgin · 22/03/2020 18:00

There were a lot of very very heavy hints on there about lockdown. He actually said ‘in the next 24 hours we will be heavily considering our options’. Best guess tomorrow is the day he announces it - it was unthinkable two weeks ago but fucking hell the sheer fuckwittery of the nation has been exposed and it is more than time, they clearly wanted to softly softly approach it. Let see how many ‘I might just get to the hairdressers’, ‘should I not go and meet my friends, it’s my birthday’ & the absolute kings of cunts the second home owners flocking to Cornwall & hanging out in groups laughing and joking & being ‘rebellious’ proving once and for all what selfish, ignorant twats they are. The stupid need to be controlled..

MitziK · 22/03/2020 18:00

People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection

That's me, then.

Pity I've probably already caught the bastarding thing from having to work until I started feeling ill.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/03/2020 18:01

Italy have been on lockdown for two weeks but it the area worse hit there are now further measure - markets to be closed I’m quite shocked they were still open

We shall be going on lockdown this week France and Italy both have to keep reminding the public I don’t think we behave any differently here as it’s not until it impacting your life rather than just an inconvenience will most comply

And the majority will comply once rules are more set we are quite compliant in culture. And to soon we wouldn’t be ready and how long can we apply it for

Really what needed is how China managed it very heavy military control far more rigid than what other countries are enforcing but then it is a country that has far more control over their citizens lives

PleaseStopCrying · 22/03/2020 18:01

How can anyone think that was clear after watching Nicola's speech. They were miles apart.
